I am very new too roleplay, and the lore really confuses me, i think it does anyone. I need helo knowing what titles i should use as well as class name, i don’t really just wanna use priest.
Okay, seing as your new, will give a heads up, if using the darkfallen (white skin red eyes) in the Stormwind area you may have some issues, some people outright attacking you and others just flat out ignoring you, now thats how the way, for giving your character a “rp class” like many many do in their TRP discriptions Im unsure, theres many types of shadow casting mobs in the game from who you could draw inspiration, Im sure people will pop in n give some good ideas soon on this thread also.
Shadowmancer? Shadowmage? Nethermancer (tho thats morw mage, I think)?
The lore is overwhelming at first glance, so do not panic!
According to WoW’s cosmology, void is a subset of the shadow. So your shadow priest is a great choice to get to know more about your character’s potential abilities.
In terms of titles, Void Elves are a bunch of Blood Elves that were exiled for studying the Void. So you could start with “Scholar, Acolyte, Student” or any title like that. As you start to get more familiar with the lore, your character can develop and so will your title!
The most important thing right now is getting comfy with your character and roleplay in general. Focus on having fun first. The game’s lore will come with time, I promise
Welcome to RP!
Echoing what Bee said; Shadowpriest is an excellent choice of class for Void Elves. The titles they suggest are great too.
You can also take inspiration from NPC’s: Such as Rift Warden, Initiate or Locus Researcher, depending on what role you’d like your character to have.
If you’re concerned about the lore, a quick look on WoWpedia’s Void Elves page could help. It’s generally a very good source for lore research - though don’t be put-off if it’s too much at once! People are more than happy to answer any questions you might have :>
Good luck and have fun!
As a quick side note: Red eyes look cool, but are actually for a kind of Elf called Darkfallen. (any other eye colour is perfectly fine for Void Elves, but don’t worry about it too much at the moment. Just concentrate on having fun!)
Up to you really. As in what you’d want to portray your character as. A first thing to note though is that if you want to RP an actual Void Elf you should go for the blueberry skin and pale eyes, as that is the actual Void Elf customization. Pale skin and red eyes are darkfallen, aka Undead Elves, normal skin and blue eyes are High Elves.
That aside, if you don’t want to be a spriest there’s always the option to be a Shadowmage instead, as in a mage who just uses shadow/void magic for more pragmatic purposes rather than a priest actually worshipping the void (which isn’t a Ren’Dorei thing btw). You also have the NPC’s in the Void Elf starting area: locus researchers (basically mages, probably void nerds conducting more research into all that juicy purple stuff), rift wardens (warlocks, probably using their knowledge of shadow magic and other unpleasant magics to keep the others safe and banish some random void aberration here and there) and a few others that are less magical.
At the end of the day as a Void Elf you were part of a small expedition of researchers and their retinues who were led by Umbric and wanted to study the void in order to protect Quel’Thalas. You got exiled, ended up on some weird rock in the middle of nowhere and got saved by Alleria who had you recruited into the Alliance to fight in the Fourth War. You’d probably have some military experience thus and will be either a researcher or a military figure, probably not a baker. But hey, void rifts are always a fast way to deliver bread or pizza!
I understand the want to avoid confusion but I do think that the Darkfallen option is a viable option for plain old Void Elves. If Night Elves can use it to be Nightmare Druids then I can’t find much reason to deny Void Elves.
Of course if OP wants to use that then I would say to prepare for odd glances or hostilities in RP, but then again as a Void Elf that’s par for the course.
I don’t know. Thing is that with Nightmare druids we have a concrete example of how they look, as we do with Void Elves where there’s no example of Void Elves having red eyes or looking like Darkfallen. The confusion would just make it worse. Especially if you are a new RP’er and lore isn’t your forte, she’ll just wake up with people being toxic to her for looking like a Darkfallen or assuming she’s another dark ranger in SW before they even read TRP.
As a long term void elf RPer, I can help you out a little!
So first a little run down and what you should know- check out Quel/Sin’dorei lore first and foremost and build a story of your chars past days off of that. If she is to remain a Ren’dorei when you RP her, remember this, Ren’dorei were first blood elves, who studied/used the Void, which Rommath considered risky (thanks for the input Levey!) and were exiled and later the work of Dar’khan (a elven traitor) which was a huge poop show, the soon to be Ren’dorei were exiled to the Ghostlands. This was a small group of people, mostly researchers, magic users and their guards. They eventually found their way into Telogrus rift, where they were forcibly corrupted by a Nether prince, but before that corruption could be completed, it was stopped by Alleria and the hero character. When they came to, they found they were physically changed, they had been leached of their skin colours and hair colours, and had become the different versions of void colouration that you see. As Valdarth said, in lore, no void elf can look like a Quel/Sin’dorei (without some sort of enchantment, which is just… ehhhh) They were further exiled from the Horde and Alleria vouched for them within the Alliance and Anduin welcomed them, with the proviso that they work to further the Alliances interests (which can mean military- mostly and research. Ren’dorei civilians are not a thing and bad RP)
What you have to ask yourself is-
Why did you character follow Umbric in the first place? Were they a researcher, wanting more power to protect their people after the Scourge invasion (like mine)? just power hungry? A guard to someone like that?
How is your character furthering the Alliances interests now? Is she a researcher? Is she in the military?
How do you feel on an OOC basis, knowing that a lot of IC interactions you will get will not be pleasant ones? Can you handle that? My own Ren’dorei has had a range. From Lightforged brothers in arms, to Human Paladins who got so angry with her just being alive, they wanted to smite her where she stood. And don’t even get me started on the week they were released, that was a poop show.
Can you handle that Ren’dorei are not social creatures? They are literally hearing the whispers of the Void. All. The. Time. They are taught how to control it and how to use their new powers by Alleria and Locus walker (so no, Ren’dorei are not in danger of becoming insane, they are very regimented with that). Despite what you see in Cringewind, they are not sit around with other races and hug people, they are legitimately and rightfully feared and reviled, because the Alliance are light worshippers and you are a… creature of the Void (though you do not worship the Void mostly, I mean why would you, you were corrupted by it and have been forced out of you home because of it)
Okay so back to the topic, there are some really cool classes you could RP.
-
Rift Warden, the one I believe fits best with Ren’dorei priests- Think of them as mages but for Void. Think of summoning rifts, summoning apparitions, void bolts, void shields, void healing. As a Ren’dorei you are OP, go nuts with it. My Ren’dorei literally opened a rift once and had an Void monster (just an illusion) chase the person she was duelling it was hilarious.
-
Rift blade- These are basically warriors, but you could (and I know a lot of people wouldn’t accept this but its a concept I really like and want to put in to practice at some point) Rp a fallen blood knight, who now uses their once light powers as void ones… A void Paladin if you will.
-
Locus researchers- As a rift Warden, but mostly focused on research, performing experiments etc. So if you went with this, you would be some RPing with how the Void has really affected her people, what the long term effects are etc. Its a cool concept but could run a little dry.
-
Void initiates- People who became void elves with little to no skill, perhaps people bought along by the researchers ie servants that kind of thing, who are being trained in the ways of the Void to become a better ally to the Alliance and to further its causes. Important to note that even as an initiate you would have rigorous training to control and subdue yourself should you need to.
-
Umbral rangers- Think of a Void Farstrider, basically that but voidy.
-
Ghostblades (thank you Linma!)- Basically scouts and rogues, but with an added voidy centre.
And of course those are just the classes you see in Telogrus, if you have any ideas, just shout me. Well… I think this post got long enough sweats sorry for the wall, but its nice to see someone get into a concept I love! (even with the postage stamp sized lore) if you do want anything else answered shout!
I think that just about covers -everything- lol, nice to see for newer rp’ers coming into that concept, very helpful wall of text
It’s all that blueberry skin color, I’m telling you.
Not correct, it’s a misconception perpetuated by the “void elves are traitors” crowd. Dar’khan’s research came later and only led to the power treasure trove of telogrus. Umbric’s gang were exiled for doing void magic which was judged by Rommath as risky, ignoring their past with fel and shadow priests as late as pandaria.
Thank you Sigtryggr, I might have gotten a little… overzealous there
It is! Its the blueberry skin, it just makes people mad
Yes I know, but I was trying to make what was already a very… very… very long post a shorter one and possibly missed a few things here and there in an attempt to make it shorter… You know not to overwhelm with detail (which I have probably failed at), but I will add that bit now!
Okay, it’s just a really big important plot point for writing a void elf.
There are also Ghostblades all around Stormwind… for whatever reason. Very, very sub rogues. One of those is a way to go if you’re focused on practical application rather than higher mysteries, or simply want to show the Kaldorei how to shadowmeld for real.
Haha never can be too over zealous with newer rp’ers, its better to have too much info than too little (imo personally), nice to see aswell, that wall clearly came from decent experience, that should be helpful af
I forgot about them! Thank you!!
I have been RPing a Void elf since they came out and I love her, I love the polarising opinions to her, I love the fact she can walk into a room and immediately clear it and get death threats for… living, or be surrounded by friends! Its fun RP!
If you’re going with a priest, you could lend from either Magisters or being related to former blood knights if you wanna go down that road, if you just want to use priest, you could make yourself a Former X, for example, Former Sun Priest, then you can start going into what your character wants to do, now they’ve lost former prestige etc
Or you could be priest worshipping the void after the curious belf that you were practiced the forbidden powers and got nearly consumed by them.
People often use former Sun Priest or former Blood Knight but its important that when you do it you need to think of reasons why your belf decided to delve and study the forbidden void in the first place. Most priests or BKs simply wouldn’t because they are Light-pilled, so in that case you can say that you character was disillusioned with the Light after the Fall and after M’uru was gone they looked for something to fill in the void (see what I did there?) since the Light will not answer to them without the N’aaru to bend against its will and without sufficient faith.
I don’t believe Void Elves are really into worshipping the void. They seem to be more about fighting the enemy with its own powers and the whole Alleria/Locus Walker training is about that and the whole ‘‘other ways to protect Azeroth’’ thing. If anything they are being taught to protect themselves against it and fight it.
