Void Elves and the Sunwell

Hello, story and lore forum people.

In writing a new alt for my roleplaying, I’ve hit a couple of walls. As a new race with minimal elaboration, there is a lot missing from the void elf experience and one such detail is their relationship with the sunwell.

Firstly the summary of their exile;

Rommath feared that Umbric and Pals would endanger the sunwell with their research. Alleria, notably not quite void elf, is then subject to voided ethereal Durzaan using the well as a trap and portal to get to her. Rommath is vindicated, at least in his own mind.

Umbric’s exiles languish in the ghostlands, unable to return to Silvermoon city and Quel’Danas but like all high elves and derivitives, they remain physically dependant on a Sunwell that’s both Light and Arcane.

While in exile, Umbric discovers the notes of dar’khan and follows the direction to Telogrus and the magic box therein. Said magic box is opened and the ensuing chaos is then used by Durzaan, still pursuing Alleria, to corrupt Umbric’s exiles. Alleria and the Player stop Durzaan but the exiles are changed forever.

Now, with the Sunwell being Light and Arcane since the sacrifice of M’uru and gift of Velen restoring the well, the font of power and life for all such elves is the antithesis to what the void elves have become. Life, Order and positives of the mind seem less than compatible with the Chaos, Death and negatives of the mind that the Void represents, demonstrated beautifully with the avatars of mental anguish that are the Old Gods and the Sha. In addition, void elves are changed enough to grow tentacles and bleed purple, becoming something else entirely.

My general impression is that they cannot be sustained by the well anymore as they would be fundamentally severed from all that it is. Do they then subsist on void energy? Is their old addiction “cured” even as it is replaced with constant whispers? Is there any lore about this at all?

My take on is is that they are no longer addicted to arcane magic, wether that means they are addicted to the void i am not sure, but possibly.

i think they are still addicted, but that’s just speculation. (Taking crack doesn’t heal from a heroine addiction)^^

No but I can cure my heroine addiction by replacing it with morphine :stuck_out_tongue:

It is possible that they may no longer require to be sustained by the sunwell, something akin to death knights, as the death knights’ eternal need to cause suffering does override their other addiction. It is possible that by them being infused by the void, their arcane addiction is now replaced with malign whispers and visions, though this is probably speculation unless we get a confirmation by word of god.

Wowpedia Ask CDev 2:
Are blood elf death knights still afflicted by their racial addiction to magic?

No, though their new addiction, the one all Ebon Blade death knights possess, is arguably worse: the need to inflict pain. If death knights do not regularly inflict agony upon another creature, they begin to suffer wracking pains that could drive them into a mindless, blood-seeking hysteria—a far worse fate than that of those who suffer from arcane withdrawal

It would be a weird plot point if Alleria was a danger to the Sunwell by just being in near proximity to it, however if every void elf is still connected to the Sunwell regardless of the distance, as they were previously blood elves, void elves would still pose a risk, though it’s possible the distance is what triggers the invasion of the ethereal in the nightborne recruitment scenario.

Wowpedia: The Sunwell’s power has no physical limits or boundaries. An elf bound to its energies would be so no matter how far away they went from it. Its energies are available to be drawn upon from anywhere in the cosmos and even alternate realities as evidenced by the Sunsworn forces on the alternate Draenor.

Hiya Mari, wish you a satisfactory writing arc!

The Arcan’dor fruit cured the Nightwell-addiction…
So in theory the Nightborne could cure any well-addiction, be it Eternity, Moon, Night, Sun… they are all work in the same principal after all, Arcane-addiction just the source is different

Well, not having anything to work out the details on the life defining dependency is a considerable impedient and irritant.

My gun would aim at any void addict who tries to come close to the sunwell.

I’d argue that Void is far worse than Arcane…

Fel and Void are not exactly great things to have, so near the Sunwell.

In most cases probably. But given the time it was between Fel and Void which are near enough both at the same level.

Void elves were exiled after re-ignition of the Sunwell thus their danger of the research to the Well itself.
so You went from Painkillers to Underground drugs no one should probably take.
while me I’m just on some heavy bois stuff.

No. Go away.

Why not actually, it gives a safety net in case the Sunwell is tainted again

I thought it was rather unclear when they were exiled. All we really know is that is was after Rommath came back to Silvermoon and around the time the Sunwell was restored.

Underground drugs what give you abilities!

yawn fell is so overrated. Void and Fel are basically the same and if you let its grip take hold of you then you are pretty much doomed.

As long as the alliance stays away nothing to worry about.
