Wand Mechanics

Description says that Wands are Ranged weapons, therefore I wonder whether to focus at physical, spell or both to improve wand output.

Which ones apply?

Physical:

  • Agility increase damage and critical
  • Attack power increases damage
  • Improves your chance to get a critical strike by 1%.
  • Increases ranged attack speed by 15%.
  • Permanently enchant gloves to grant a +1% attack speed bonus.
  • +20 Attack Power.

Spell:

  • Increases damage and healing done by magical spells and effects by up to 33.
  • Increases damage done by Shadow spells and effects by up to 30.
  • Improves your chance to get a critical strike with spells by 1%.

My understanding and a bit of testing shows that Agility increases attack power and critical, however all wands have spell damage and I cannot see talents like Shadow Focus (Priest) are not applied the output as they should.

Agility is the worse stat alongside strength on wands ever.
Bonus spellpower is always better .

Of course it sounds ridiculous to make mage geared in strength gear. My question is what actually applies to wands

Seeing as they do school spell damage (fire, nature, etc) it might be spellpower.

Although I don’t recall spell power increasing wand damage.

Alight, how about

  • Improves your chance to get a critical strike by 1%
    or
  • Improves your chance to get a critical strike with spells by 1%

Shadow Focus talent clearly does’t apply. Shadow spells are fine, rarely resist where shadow damage wand… resist, resist, resist… or is it just a bug?

They do spell damage not physical damage.

I noticed increased critical while stacking up agility.
