And can’t help wishing we could, some day, select a pose for the characters on the login screen and maybe even establish a relationship in between them in this way (e.g., flagging them as relatives or partners so they can interact, hug or hold hands instead of just standing / sitting there?).
Just dreaming ofc, but I thought I’d mention it anyway.
Well I think vaguely we could select a custom pose, only for certain individuals to abuse this. Grossly into a NSFW fashion.
Edit: Maybe only pre-approved poses or portraits would be an idea.
It would be neat if you could categorize or group them in some way shape or form
then you can always name the group or category as ‘friends’ or ‘family’ or whatever you want to use it for
I’m hoping that we’ll able to vary them a little, between standing/sitting etc.
I want a full out brawl on my screen. All of them wrestling over the last piece of cake.
That would be PERFECT as far as I am concerned.
In the blue post it mentions that in future we’ll be able to collect different scenes for the character screen. Doesn’t go into detail though, so whether that will just be background images or include poses or other things too I guess we will have to wait and see.
For the launch of The War Within, you will only be able to assign four characters to this one scene. We are working on building more of these scenes for you to collect in the future though. We’re excited about earning more of these scenes as we play through the expansion and hope you will be, too!
I am all for setting up poses for Warband, but I hereby inform that it will be as NSFW as possible.
Changing background alone would be quite a pleasing feature, as well as being able to add extra characters to the scene, or customizing a few different scenes to load at random or on a rotation!
Poses world complete it however, and even just choosing from a list of options would be fine.
Not to mention that collecting scenes and poses would become a mini game by itself.
Add to it some furniture and decor and it would almost feel like player housing, hehe.

Ahem, right, admittedly since people IRL (as well as NPCs in the quests/storylines) have relatives and partners, I didn’t realize the request may have classified as troublesome due to furries and whatever the other thing you mentioned is. I must seem such a fool!

it’s not sims even if the idea tends to be similar.
I’d like them to be able to select different background settings for warband scenes,
also allow alts to be used for follower dungeons instead of the bog standard npcs…
And also establish lasting relationships with factions and characters.
Why would they even bother with quests and storyline if it was all exclusively about killing stuff?
RPG is part of a MMO-RPG. And as a matter of facts, there are also special RPG realms.
Just think of how transmogs and toys have no use whatsoever in the murdering game part.
A selectable background zone or a pose for a character on another player’s screen won’t make your game look like the sims more than the trading post and shop transmogs already do, so worry not. 
It would be really awesome, yeah!

Personally I would very much like to be able to flag another Night Elf as my sibling.
But in the quests and WoW literature there are canon relationships between Blood Elves / Nightborne and even Gnome / Goblins so I would not at all be bothered if someone wanted that…
Heck, there are half Draenei / Orc characters in the lore I believe?
And half elves of course…
and what kind of child will born between a forsaken and a night elve ?
zombie half elve?
