The first one only really succeeded in China and I really don’t want anyone catering to their market, so I’m willing to say a no. Lost all respect for Disney when they thanked China in Mulan. Pathetic.
Not going to happen, The film studio has already said as such, Duncan Jones the director has said no, and all of the sets and props have been auctioned off or destroyed.
The only thing I liked about the movie was seeing the Lion’s Pride Inn brought to life. It looked exactly like it (the clean versions!) and was amazing. Stormwind City too of course. That it wasn’t the right lore just put me off entirely.
The first movie didn’t went well as they expected:
“Duncan Jones’ Warcraft might be the highest-grossing video game adaptation ever made, but it failed to even hit $50 million at the domestic box office and was saved from unmitigated disaster solely by a very strong showing in China. The material just didn’t seem to appeal to more casual viewers in the slightest, and the best fantasy epics appeal to every demographic instead of just the diehards.”
“However, the studio is intent on trying again as we’ve heard that a reboot is now in the works and according to our sources – the same ones who told us Ben Affleck is returning for The Flash and a She-Hulk show is coming to Disney Plus, both of which were correct – an A-lister is being eyed to head up the cast.”
I personally liked the first movie. It was not amazing but definitely a good movie in my opinion but also not worth of a second one.
The story of Arthas would be worthy of a movie, probably even a bunch of them telling his entire story. It’s such a crazy good plot to tell that it’s a bummer the first one wasn’t about him.
I would love to see a new warcraft movie or series even (because one movie is too restrictive for the huge amount of lore it has) but only if it’s made according to the actual lore. I can understand how people who didn’t know much about it loved the first one but the changes they made just made my head hurt.
If it was made animated/CGI I think that would have been more successful. If they had kept to proper lore I’m sure it would have been more successful with the playerbase, the main fan base who would go and see it. I was sick of alternative time lines after WoD and I’m sure there were other people too.
I think Duncan Jones had issues with Blizzard’s micromanaging like other directors did but rather than quit he stayed on.
The movie was cool to see how Azeroth would look like ‘real’ but other than that it wasn’t great, the story was a mess.
The only way i can see something is if it’s animated but WC time has long gone. The movie took far too long to come out.
I would rather take some animated shorts series. Like say 20-30min per episode, 8-10 episode season.
The story could be told so much better, focus on the key moments and character building.
They didn’t have to change all these little things about the lore either tbh.
Garona being half human and then Medivh implying he was her father… like why? It served no purpose at all and even they showed some Draenei at the start so why not just make her what she really was, a Orc/Draenei mix.
Lothar having this random person be his son and a adopted sister? Or was he adopted? Also quite unnecessary. Doomhammer(despite being the coolest character) being a Frostwolf was also quite odd.
Still, even if you ignore these things the movie was still enjoyable. But it could’ve been a lot better.
