Warlock My Wishlist/Suggestions Problems/fixes

Warlock Wishlist (Fantasy + QoL Ideas)

Core Utility

Problem: Warlock is the only caster without its own baseline interrupt, forcing the class into always running Felhunter just to cover a group necessity.
Suggestion: Add a Warlock baseline interrupt spell (independent of pet).
Benefit: Warlocks won’t be locked into Felhunter as their default pet, allowing real pet choice and build diversity.

Major Cooldowns

Problem: Many Warlock major cooldowns feel clunky due to long cast times, making them hard to use reactively.
Suggestion:

  • Soul Rot (Affliction) → Instant cast
  • Summon Demonic Tyrant (Demonology) → Instant cast
  • Seed of Corruption → Reduced cast (0.5s) or instant (still shard-based, so not spammable)
Benefit: More fluid gameplay, better responsiveness in high-mobility content.

Affliction

Problem 1: Vile Taint feels slow and restrictive in AoE situations.
Suggestion: Allow Vile Taint to have 2 charges and a shorter cast time.
Benefit: Makes Affliction more responsive in multi-target scenarios without being overpowered.

Problem 2: Affliction lacks a defining AoE drain mechanic, despite being themed around drains.
Suggestion: Add a talent-based AoE Drain Life (e.g. “Drain Essence”) that channels on multiple targets at once, dealing reduced damage per target but healing proportionally.
Benefit: Reinforces Affliction’s fantasy, adds sustain in AoE scenarios, and creates a more unique niche versus other casters.

Pet Utility (Empowered Pets + Sacrifice)

Problem: Current pet design lacks depth; buffs/utility are inconsistent, and Grimoire of Sacrifice removes too much flavor.
Suggestion:

  • Each pet provides a unique passive party buff + active CD (extends to Sacrifice).
  • Imp → Passive stamina + crit buff; CD: magic cleanse
  • Voidwalker → Passive versatility/armor buff; CD: extra HP regen + armor/HP shield
  • Succubus → Passive crit damage reduction + crit buff; CD: instant AoE disorient
  • Felhunter → Passive haste buff + AoE movement speed; CD: AoE interrupt
  • Felguard → Passive primary stat + crit/haste buff; CD: strong stun or AoE disruption
  • Grimoire of Sacrifice → Warlock retains the sacrificed pet’s buff + active CD (on the extra pet button). If an actual pet is active, buffs are 5–10% more effective than Sacrifice.
Benefit: Increases Warlock’s group value, lets players freely choose pet or Sacrifice without losing utility, and reduces the “always Felhunter” problem.

Metamorphosis (New Ability – All Warlocks)

Note: Available for all Warlock specs via the General Warlock talent tree. In Demonology’s spec tree, extra talent nodes provide further empowerment options.

Problem: Warlock lacks a high-fantasy, high-impact transformation that fits its dark theme and adds gameplay depth.
Suggestion:

  • New ability: Metamorphosis (costs 5 shards).
  • During Meta:
    • All casts become instant (or Shadow Bolt → Demonbolt insta).
    • Gains Burning Rush baseline, +30% dmg, +15% crit.
    • First 10s free of shard cost.
    • 0–5s: no HP drain; 5–15s: mild drain; 15s+: heavy drain until forced exit.
    • On exit: restores 2–3 shards; “Exhaustion” debuff prevents re-activation for same duration.
  • Extras:
    • Speed/armor/HP increased (talent scaling).
    • Demonic Gateway → instant “jump” (2 charges) that stuns nearby mobs on landing.
    • Gain Glide (like Demon Hunter).
Benefit: Adds a powerful fantasy-driven cooldown, enhances Warlock identity, and offers high-risk/high-reward gameplay.

Hi, I agree with you on practically everything. At most, I’d like to see spell lock become a talent node where you can choose whether to be a warlock or a felhunter, simply because there are several warlocks who prefer being able to silence a target while casting or being CC’d.

Naturally, talents like portal should become core spells. I’d also like a talent node between gateway and some sort of “dark blink” where the warlock enters the twisting nether and teleports forward or by clicking on the ground at a certain point, with a range similar to the gateway.

The AOE drain with drain life or drain soul is something I have been hoping for for many years, it was introduced in MOP and then removed shortly after during the same expansion, only to be brought back in shadowlands with soul rot and then disappear again.

I totally agree about the grimore of sacrifice; I really like the buffs based on the sacrificed demon, which is the essence of what the talent was in vanilla. Maybe I wouldn’t give it an additional ability beyond the damage bonus. The important thing is that it’s not a very low damage proc like now.

Regarding metamorphosis: I’d prefer it to become a burst but without turning into a demon. It would be better if it were visually visible that fel and corrupted energy flows through the warlock, and with a visual similar to the old dark apotheosis.

It would be essential to finally introduce a couple of instant casts or reactive instant casts based on certain situations (for example, each demon bolt has a probability X of having the HOG instant and empowered). My dream would be to reintroduce Fel Flame with synergy based on the specialization

Sometimes i would love to see back is Impending Catastrophe
We have curses and the only time i use them is when i have amplify tongues because it has “some” utility.
But i think blizzard should amp this part of warlocks, we should have more curses and stronger ones. And have a easy way of making it a group utility.
Perhaps add some of the classic ones like recklessness, elements and shadow.
All of which would be a way of us making so it either could amp our damage or group damage.

Also we desperatly need a new movement ability, i miss soulshape so much.

With what you suggest will homogenize warlock identity. Meta, and especially how you describe it is not suited for all warlocks.

It a bit over excessive, it will mean that ALL warlocks would use same burst button. Just imagine how stupid destro would be with that.

I would suggest "All shard spending spells become insta cast and + 5-10 yard max range.

If your listed buffs would extend to sacrifice it would nullify the reasoning to have demons at all. Buffs like increased HP must be active only if pet is active, otherwise why even bother with having them?

I am not going into specifics, but I would want my warlock to be tanky caster with good self healing, good cc and bad mobility.

Also dracthyr should not exist and devastation should be warlock spec with metamorphosis

Needs deleted. The day this was implemented was the day demonology completely fell off.

Just bring back legion demo minus the demonic empowerment spam and give us some form of Metamorphosis like Gul’dan in the nighthood.

Remove soul shard as a resource and bring back demonic fury for demo and burning embers for destro.

Also how is burning rush still a talent? Make it a baseline ability that drains our mana or something.

New demons would be appreciated aswell. Doom guard, and infernal as perma pets like they were in WoD would also be nice to have back again.

Either buff drain life for demo/destro or give us dark bargain or dark regeneration back and ember tap for destro.

Get rid of this fel domination cringe and just bring back demonic rebirth. No idea what genius thought it was a good idea to remove it in the first place.

Burning Rush needs to be completely reworked. It has some rather obvious structural problems, such as the fact that since CD isn’t off-global, it almost always happens that you use it and, a fraction of a second later, it consumes 4% of your health, resulting in a nonexistent increase in movement.

The solution is very simple: for example, a predetermined health or resource consumption that allows movement of a certain amount of yards. This was a Soul Harvester talent in alpha, among other things, but was then removed to replace Gorefiend’s Resolve.

you could also make it a sort of dark blink with CD and health/resource usage, entering and exiting the twisting nether

I think he just need to be an insta buff demon. No damage should be associated with him, he just provides buffs, like casting a wide area buff for all demons of the warlock, giving them damage + movement speed.

I believe so too. an instant demon buffer and thats it (for Tyrant)
and as for metamorphosis… Metamorphosis doesn’t have to be the same for all warlocks. Demonology can be a Demon form, Destruction can be an inferno/al form and affliction can be a Shadowy/lich form… the demo can be the tank, the affliction the super drain HP leecher and destro amazing crits

My wishlist is making sfury instacast

Didn’t they already do something like this a while ago, then changed it back because people were complaining about having to interrupt their casts to interrupt?

I might be wrong, but I have a vague memory of this.

You are correct and it was totally the wrong decision. We should have a choice node for our interrupt to be caster base or pet based.

Blizzard didn’t added baseline interrupt because it would have left Felhound without a unique trait… like they couldn’t figure out something else for the dog. Like stealing spells or reflecting them.

It won’t solve the core issues.

I know, right?! Those suggestions sound great.

I need to throw this one out there…make Immolate instant cast. Why do we still have a cast time on it?

I know we have Wither but what about Diabolist?

i wouldnt want it to be instantly cast, but perhaps be casted at 0.5 seconds instead of 1.5.
Wither does alot of damage but still needs to some unique attributes to make it differe from normal immolate.

Why should a DOT, in a game where most casters who can root and permasnare have very strong instant casts, have a cast time? With the current game speed, it’s absolutely insane to still give cast time to immolate.

It doesn’t even have protection from dispel and its application is essential for dealing damage and generating resources. They put it as an instant in hellcaller, I don’t understand why they shouldn’t also put it as an instant in diabolist

I’d love to use Shadowflame to slow enemies by 70%, but is it possible that such a spell is clearly bugged since its reintroduction in DF?

The frontal cone often misses the target, while similar abilities like Cone of Cold and the Dractyr racial have a well-defined frontal and lateral range of action

Why would you need a shadowflame if you have curse of exhaustion?
Shadowflame as it is in main talent tree is useless.
We have curse of Exhaustion and Succubus to Slow down targets. If It rooted the target, then maybe it would have been more useful - for longer CD - 15 is way to low for roots.
