Warlock Wishlist

Hey all, I saw this comment as part of the Warlock Wishlist post and I really like some of the ideas.

General Class Tree:

I really like these QoL changes to Locks (direct quotes):

  • Bring back Call Felhunter talent, reduce the cooldown to match Spell Lock, and make it baseline. Instantly solve our baseline interrupt problem without causing double interrupt issue. https://www.wowhead.com/spell=212619/call-felhunter you’ve already got the get out clause baked into this spell.

  • Remove the 3 person requirement for Ritual of Summoning. The actual summoning act still requires 2 person, so what’s the purpose of imposing the 3 person limitation? Because that fits our class fantasy, which in practice is nothing but annoyance?

  • Summonable Gateways to Class Hall and major cities. Look, after playing Legion (where npc warlocks are capable of summoning portals and gateways to almost anywhere) please at least throw us a bone in that regard. At the very least, we should have our personal summonable gateway to our class hall, that fits our class fantasy. A permanent gateway in the sewers felt more like an poor effort rather than a fitting theme.

I would add the following:

  • Kil’Jaeden’s Cunning. The warlock community are crying out for this including prominent warlock streamers. It makes sense and will gives much needed mobility.

  • Demonic Circle is a personal one for me. I would like to be able to pin point our circle just like we do with Gateway, but we have two charges so it is not OP. You have to be psychic when it comes to position and you have to go to the place to plant it. Void Elves have Spatial rift. Also, Demonic Circle should be baseline.

  • Reduce the time for Warlocks to use Demonic Gateway. 90 secs for some we are meant to use for mobility seems too much for me.

  • Shadowfury to be instant cast. Other classes have their cc’s instant (i.e. Mage). This would be a great quality of life change.

  • Burning Rush needs to have it’s damage reduced. The thing we use to avoid things killing us actually kills us. Also, the strain on healers is another matter. I think the theme of trading health for power fits with Warlock but don’t make it so punishing. Have it reduce the damage by 30% or something. And git rid of fiendish stride. Pointless talent.

  • Bring back Impending Catastrophe as a talent. I see many people say we need something to apply AOE curses and the talent was great. I play Night Fae because of the soul binds, but from what I’ve read in the threads this is a great spell.

  • Remove Soul Conduit and Teachings of the Black Harvest. Pointless talents.

  • Remove Sargerei Technique and Socrethar’s Guile. I don’t understand why these are here. Pointless, gatekeeping talent nodes. Put Fel Synergy and Soul in its place and where these talents used to be put Soulburn and Soul Conduit if you insist on keeping it. Make the capstones powerful.

Affliction

  • Nightfall procs should allow you to channel Drain Soul whilst moving. We can do it with Shadow Bolt why not Drain Soul. The ability fits more thematically with Affliction, but I know there are a lot of Shadow Bolt lovers.

  • Drain Soul becomes something like Malefic Grasp. A spell that channels and increases our DOTs whilst causing damage and keeping the ability to generate Soul Shards. The RnG of shard generation is crazy unless you talent for it.

  • I need to quote Xanatas for this as this is their idea. Malefic Rapture function becomes like a instant proc, soul shard cost. Please see below: Malefic Rapture Spam - #2 by Xanatas-nemesis

  • Soul shard generation is really bad for Affliction. I don’t what to do about that, but compared to Destro and Demo (who generates soul shards easily) Aff suffers unless you play Soul Harvester.

Destruction

  • Make immolate an instant cast. We’ve seen with Wither it is not OP (apart from wither is a strong spell). It is so archaic that this spell is still castable.

  • Separate Inferno and Cataclysm. This is something the community has asked forever!!! Get rid of pyrogenic and move either inferno or cataclysm there. Additionally, I would like to see cataclysm graphic updated and maybe target based. Think of Guldan’s https://www.wowhead.com/spell=212686/flames-of-sargeras ability in the nighthold raid.

  • I like Dimensional Rift as a concept as we tear open reality causing destruction against our enemies but the talent is woefully under tuned and in an odd place. Make impactful and can be used in both single target and AOE. I like the idea of Unstable Rifts capstone talent where all portals open at once. Also Dimension Ripper great concept and passive damage, but the proc rate is terrible. Whilst I’m here, please, please update the visual for this spell. We already great port visuals with our demons and in game portal visuals, why is this spell stuck in Legion graphics.

  • Ruination proc should make Soul Fire an instant cast ability. I don’t understand the hesitation of not having Destro procs be instant cast when the other 2 specs have that option.

  • A controversial opinion, but I don’t like Shadowburn. I think it is a pointless spell and is being used like chaos bolt and for mobility. I would like to see it gone.

  • Bring back our purple Infernal for Avatar of Destruction. I don’t like the overfiend. It does not fit with Destro. Our purple boy was able to pulse aoe damage whilst doing physical damage. It looked great and felt great. Remove the stun from it and bring it back.

Demonology

Disclaimer: I do not know much about demonology. It’s a spec I haven’t really been able to sync with, but I use it for world events and I think it’s amazing in delves. So, my thoughts are base on that.

  • Tyrant should be instant cast. I really don’t understand why out of all our demon summons (Darkglare and Infernal) is the Tyrant still castable?

  • Demonic calling should proc your charhounds in addition to your dreadstalkers.

  • Doomguard should deal shadow bolt volleys. It should work exactly how the tier worked in Dragon Flight.

Finally, our Demons

Hopefully with the use of a caster based interrupt we have use our demons for the situation. I love our core demons, but they get side lined by the Felhunter because of the kick.

  • Imp is great. We have a dispel. We can have it passively increase fire damage. I can’t remember what it use to do back in the day.
  • Sayaad (Incubus/Succubus) having the knockback return. This will help with some affixes.
  • Voidwalker becomes more tanky. My poor blue boy.

Just my thoughts. Tuning needs to be considered and also I’m sure not all would work, but some are quality of life changes. Really would like to see other people’s thoughts.

I would add this

  • Damage of all demons and their HP pool was is increased to bring them to the level of Felguard.

Imp

  • Added a Blood pact spell: Increases HP by 10% of caster and group members.

Felhunter:

  • Spell lock is removed.
  • Added new ability - Fel Mirror: Copies magic attack of the enemy for next 15 seconds, and next usage send copied spell to the target. Cooldown is 45 seconds.
  • Devour magic is now an autocast.

Succubus.

  • Whiplash is redesigned: Knocks back enemies. Uses Warlock’s line of sight. 45 Seconds cooldown.
  • Lash of pain now applies a lingering bleed damage, stacks up 5 times.
  • Range of auto attack and lash of pain has been increased to 10yd.

Voidwalker:

  • Added new ability - Void grip: Disarms the opponent for next 4 seconds, if weapon cannot be disarmed, then damage output of the enemy is lowered by 20% for 4 seconds. 45 seconds cooldown.

Procing charhound or gloomhound out off demonic calling is a bit an overkill.
My suggestion is:

  • demonic calling summons a dreadstalker.

Additional Demonology changes:

  • Talents Antoran Armaments and Annihilan Training now increases damage output and damage reduction of Imp, Voidwalker, Succubus, Felhunter and Felguard.
  • Talent Soul strike has been redesigned:

Teaches your primary Demon the following ability: Soul strike.
Strike into the soul of the enemy, dealing Shadow damage.

  • Felguard, Voidwalker, succubus and Felhunter share the current mechanic of the spell.
  • Imp - Soulstrike has 40yd range.
  • Demonic strenght has been removed from the talent tree and redesigned.
  • Empower your main demon increasing it’s damage dealt by 20% and increasing it’s energy regeneration by 100% for 15 seconds.
    • Learned at the level 30

Nice. I don’t really play Demo except for delves.

Also, pet summons…why is it so long. If they insist on Fel Domination make it instant. It’s painful and pointless for our main pet to take so long to cast.

Or get rid of Fel Dom and reduce the cast time of pet summon. Simple. Look at hunters!

HI! My wishlist for the warlock is particularly long but I’ll try to be as concise as possible XD

The talent tree should be revised in many points, both to give logic and to streamline various talents with 2 points that could be reduced to 1. Furthermore, it is not clear why spells such as teleport or gateway should be talents and not baselines. The focal point for me are the capstones: the current ones can easily become passive (soulburn makes no sense to exist for me, it would be enough for healthstone, teleport and gateway to have those benefits passively because then other offensive spells are not enhanced). It would be great to have Kiljaedens Cunning/Mannoroth Fury: the first to be able to cast for example 3 spells on the move with an active CD outside the global CD, the second an AOE enhancement. I would especially love the return of Fel Flame as a talent.

I would like the resources of the class to be differentiated as was the case in MOP: soul shard for affliction, burning/diabolic ember for destruction, demonic fury/knowledge for demonology.

Spell Lock is absolutely necessary as a talent, and if you take it automatically it doesn’t work if you use the felhunter. This way a warlock who wants to silence while casting can do so freely, otherwise he will use the caster’s spell lock. Strong for demonology in PvE and PvP. The excuse that demonology has a lot of CC and therefore doesn’t need spell lock falls away when you see the rogue, dk unholy and BM hunter tollkits.

I am against the Burst by summoning a demon for all three specs and for me it would be a case of returning to the beautiful Darksouls with bonuses based on the specialization.

Party buff: to encourage the invitation of the warlock in mythic+ and raids, the return of Dark Intent can be interesting for a flat buff of 3% haste. Or a proc with internal CD, Demonic Inspiration, which momentarily increases the haste of the party/raid.

That was very concise and I love all your suggestions.

That sounds about right.

I wish Xelnath to come back

I’m looking for a weakauras to be able to change the aesthetics of the assets for Demonology and use the old Demonic Fury from MOP. I did this with Destruction by reusing the old Burning Embers and it’s perfect (I just need to figure out how to remove the soul shards under my character’s portrait without moving the demon and infernal bar). if you are interested just search for feverHUD

I found a weakauras that works for DH but I can’t find anything for warlock…

I do like most of this, but I can’t agree with removing/re-designing Demonic Strength. I find that an extremely useful talent and it feel good to use too.

I would love if warlocks as a whole got more ways to move without loosing dmg and maybe one simple press it and escape dmg zone ability.

I would like to see malific rapture gone it just dont fit affli just make anything else.

And a very very personal wish would be an option to not play around tyrant anymore. I dont even care if tyrant is still the meta pick i dont like how we play around it. I would like some options to really focus on imps since they are my favourite demons.
Maybe make an option to instead of tyrant my imps get a buff. Like when i dont use the demo pet but my imp buffs all wild imps and sometimes an impmother spawns and just swarms my enemies with wild imps

If abilities such as a warrior’s charge can have two charges, then mortal coil should also have two charges.

I don’t know, but I certainly can’t stand the fact that many classes always have to have “the last word” when you meet them, in the sense that I can use teleports, gateways, whatever you want but in the end they take back half a fraction of second. I would like to understand the point of giving the double grip at 40 yards to the DKs. I can’t have a way to escape, but they can have the security of sticking to me.

Every move I make ALWAYS has the instant counter that doesn’t allow me to escape

Demonic Gateway to major cities is something I wish for since Wotlk. Talents are so oddly done you just dont have that much fun with spells and also being “the meta”.

These ones are for PvP:
Demonic Teleport needs a second charge, let us decide where we put it.
Gateway debuff time needs to be reduced.
Shadowflame has to return with a DMG and a knockback. Why does it no damage?!
Shadowfury has to become an instant cast.
Inferno and Cataclysm separated.
Talents needs to be reworked to get to Channel Demonfire or Dimensional Rift and it is bonus talents easier.
Soulburn should make you cast your Chaos bolt while moving.

meanwhile the demonic circle could be, to begin with, an instant exactly like that of the monk. On your question about the shadowflame, it’s the usual discussion that’s been going on for 20 years: according to them, a spell like this doesn’t even have to do damage (while in the past it did with a DOT) but the slowdown is enough (with a ridiculous and buggy hit box between the other, it worked decades ago but not now that you miss a target that is one yard in front of you), they write a blue post to explain why it would be wrong to add the damage component to the spell, only to then see the cone of cold of the mages he has an incredible hit box, 80% slowdown (because frost mages need it since they slow down very little, evidently), and plus it does direct damage.

Shadowfury with LONG cast time is the biggest insult they could do to us, complete with an explanation where they tell you that an AOE stun is OP. If the warlock has it. If they have warr, dk, pala then everything is ok

Yes! Demonic Gateway’s to major cities! All warlocks on every class quest can use gateway’s as portals. It’s our class FANTASY!!! That would be such a win.

I agree with everything you both wrote. Our class design is behind by 10+ years and the reasons they give are ridiculous. Shadowfury should be instant cast.

If you look at cc Mages they have the following:

  • Cone of cold
  • Blastwave
  • Dragons breath
  • Frost nova
  • Ring of ice/ice nova

All instant cast abilities. I’m not saying we should be like Mages, but come on Blizzard. There are the only class similar to us and look what they have.

Whilst we’re here, the visuals need updating as well.

  • Dimensional Rift still has the visuals from Legion. Look at all the cool portal designs we have now. Our demon portals, the rifts in Speaker Eirich boss fights, etc. Why can’t DRifts get the same treatment.
  • Channel Demon Fire. I don’t understand why they didn’t use the visuals from the Aberrus tier set?! They were cool and the visuals were similar to our demon bolt. Also, Demon Fire Mastery should allow you to CDF whilst moving.
  • Soulfire is a poor visual altogether. Especially if you have green fire. I don’t understand how you can make new trinket visuals and leave core classes behind.

Someone posted this on the US forum about changing chaos bolt colours: https://us.forums.blizzard.com/en/wow/t/chaos-bolt-glyphs/2003841 looks cool.

I definitely want to see a rework to the visuals for Destro. It just doesn’t make you feel powerful when the abilities hit. We can go and get green fire and I do love that, but let’s make incinerate, conflagrate, channel demonfire (looks cool but feels weak) and others look and feel more impactful. Rain of fire is massively underwhelming. It does big numbers but I just hate it; it needs to feel like it’s really raining nukes on those enemies.

Screw the Demonic Gateway. Let us open one of those portals, where you see a bunch of Demonic Hands rip a tear into reality  However, to still have mages be unique, as the Portal Class. The Warlock’s portal should either have a long CD, or incure a debuff for 5-10 minutes after use, as I can’t imagine it’s healthy for anyone to travel repeatedly through the nether like that.

Alternatively, make it a Portal for Warlocks only.

Side Idea: Allow us to open a Portal to a Party Members location. Allowing Warlocks to quickly travel to a location, and start summoning everyone else. Which also fits thematically, as our Portals wouldn’t be bound to the Laylines, and could pop up pretty much anywhere.
