Warrior: 31/5/15

A spec played back in the day by DPS warrior’s who off tanked in raids was MS+Prot. Today seems all everyone talks about is Fury+Prot.

Can any shed light on the classic MS+Prot build for DPS warriors in raid who off tank Vs BS+Prot ?

That’s not a thing

Arms is overall terrible for DPS because 1. You don’t get much rage and 2. Mortal Strike literally wastes a debuff slot.

If you want to use a 2h for DPS, go 2h fury instead (works better for Horde; thanks windfury)

well… do whatever it suits you pal. and research some gear that can help your spec too.

I don’t think that was ever historically an off tank spec. Seems like a poor warriors everyday spec to get through pvp and dungeons.

Tank spec now is as simple as meeting the extreme demand by dps.

I wouldn’t do it because it wastes a debuff slot and arms does less dps than fury, but if that’s what you wanna do and your raids cool with the debuff slot thing go for it. Sounds fun.

what about hemo rogue I used in ZG and ony and I don’t get grilled for that?

Because it’s ZG and Ony.

Because Ony is faceroll even with a small group and ZG is 20, not 40man so you’re a lot less people fighting over debuff slots.

The hemo debuff is at least slightly useful, as it increases people’s damage.

Mortal Strike literally does nothing.

I am not just doing dps but also supporting other physicals while mortal strike wars don’t benefit raid at all

not a faceroll in pugs because dpsers don’t listen by being D heads like zooming dps in phase 3 before tank gets enough aggro.

MS was the only viable warrior spec in early classic because fury and prot were utter garbage and ms still had retarded scaling with a slow weapon. The debuff doesnt matter in a 8 debuff limit environment since only high prio ones are up anyway.

The only real benefit of that spec over a Fury-Prot build is that you get to keep tactical mastery - which in fairness is very useful for someone who may be switching roles mid-encounter. However, fury-prot spec will simply output more damage and more threat, which ultimately is the whole point of being able to be viable DPS and Tank / Off-tank.

There are couple of nice talents in Arms ofc - increased crit damage, plus the 5% weapon spec, is useful for tanks, but it is still significantly less than the Flurry and Enrage bonus.

Also, a Fury-Prot build can put 20 points into Prot, whereas Arms-Prot can only put 15 points in, due to the 5% crit being in the Fury tree. This means you’ll be missing out on some key tanking talents (you would have to sacrifice some improved threat, or improved armor, or imp shield block, bloodrage / last stand)
