Like they said on this tweet, they are kind of trying to find a way to restrict where/when you can switch it, and most people are okay to not be able to use it Mid raid.
Maybe its just me but having certain people to be able to respec in to the 3rd tank, ( even to be the offtank if one of them DCs or something) or to be an extra healer/dps if the situation suits it seems completly fine to me.
The point im trying to make is that they should simply implement dual spec as it was back in the day.
Also adding it on pre-patch instead of Ulduar patch would be a BIG QoL
Terrible change, and it shows that they are not in touch with the players.
If they are worried about disincentivizing hybrid specs then why are they not including RDF, the amount of min-max mentality in TBCC is already pretty bad and I suspect it will be even worse in Wrath once we get the Gearscore meta like is the case on Warmane.
What Brian seems to forget is that once one mob died in the instance you couldn’t change your spec unless you went out of the instance, this lead to a lot of hilarious wipes in Oculus and Gun’Drak where people accidentally asspulled and made the tank furious who was still in his Ret or Arms spec.
Not allowing dualspec as it was in Wrath, is possibly the worst change they can make. It’s what made Wrath accessible - being able to have 2 specs, either one for pve/pvp or one for healer/dps or even tank.
I can maybe understand not inside raids, but everywhere else it should be available.
The disincentivise hybrid specs through the very nature of the game… will there be raids of 25 Hybrid speccers to SWP in 2 months time?; no, ofc not… the game is not balanced for Hybrid specs (except for the occasional exception like Kebab warrior): the game was tuned on the assumption that you will go cookie-cutter spec with all your DPS classes - the first kills of M’uru by the then best players in the world was what brought in re-rolling every player to LW for drums
Also; they tried this back in the day… origonally you had to visit the inscription shop to swap your spec (you needed to be in range of a floating stone)… it was utterly pointless and abadonned quicker than most bad decisions
The other one was the cost… very quickly they’ll remember what happened back in the day: low level players are willing to dual spec to make more dungeon runs happen as a tank or healer, while they need a leveling spec for their general leveling; gate this from the leveling community by making it 1000g and there’s simply less gameplay… it’s a non-starter
Dual spec is QoL over having to use addons and visit a trainer to respec; anything other than being able to swap specs over and back as you please essentially negates that QoL… .they’ll quickly come around to realise there’s no middle ground here: dual spec should just be as it was by patch 3.3
The itteration of Dual Spec you’re talking about was the very late WOTLK version; originally you needed to be in the inscription tent (it’s not surprising that you don’t remember it because it was abandonned so early on; possibly even pre-3.1)
If your speed running guild expect you to have 2 specs, don’t join that guild if you don’t like it? 99% of guilds will not force something like this, and most of the time you should be looking to suit your guild anyway
But, the compromise could be that they lock spec to your raid ID, if we really think this is that big of a concern; that’s very restrictive though
My guild in TBC already runs 4 healers for MH/BT and we a 5th who goes with a hybrid spec (ele sham or smite priest)… that 5th DPSes on every fight except for Gurtogg, Council, Illidan & Archimonde, where they pop their healing gear on… if they could actually change their spec for this, that’s a good thing; they’re no longer bottom of both meters just to suit the guild
really it’s just QoL: we could make them HS between fights and respec…
If you can change it everywhere, your raid leaders will make the optimal comp for certain bosses. If you like to play ret only… well now you have no reason to not switch into healing for optimal boss performance right?
Or you are required to switch between two dps specs, other is better for singletarget, other for aoe.
We have seen the same crap in Shadowlands, when your doing the new raid, people need to constantly change their covenants and talents based on what is optimal for the bosses.
You DO NOT want that for Wotlk. It’s great that you can change from tank to arena dps specc, but if you are forced to change in middle of raid all the time, thats complete bullcrap.
Bruh, they wont allow it because they want you to communicate with other players, and build great community.
For respec u need to visit your trainer, but on your journey to trainer, you may stumble upon few people and chat them up,and build great friendship that’s gonna last forever.
dude, its WOTLK, what u mean switch to the best spec for every encounter, you can defeat all content with the most braidead comp, only a low % off neckbeards will do what ppl do on shadowlands
Dual Spec shouldn’t be more restricted. Most raid encounters need two tanks, but a few need three. You can either wait 10 seconds for a guy to change spec, or you can wait for him to hearthstone, change spec, and then be summoned back.
If your raidleader wants you to have 2 raid specs so you can optimize the raid, then either do it, if you are into that, or tell him to sod off. I have played with dual spec, and usually the players themselves are the ones who want to build a second spec to be useful in the raid. Players who don’t want to farm a second gear set were never forced to do so in any guild that I played in. Also, you usually don’t need 10 healers and 5 tanks for any encounter, so it’s not like everyone in the raid needs to have dual spec in the first place.
I think Blizzard is just being out of touch again, and from the feedback that they are currently getting, they can probably gather that they are WAY off course here.
