Last time I tanked in a pug was while leveling a Brewmaster… level 62, algethar academy, had a friend on restodruid that normally plays arms and also wanted to try healing.
I said at the start that I was new to the spec, as did my friend.
The level 70 batman already started flaming me after teh first pull for not going fast enough, and that you “should learn to play your spec before entering dungeons”, and tried to votekick me twice before we even reached the first boss, ninjapulling one group after the other… Bro iturned out to be a beast of a healer, he hard carried that section.
After I just siply let the bat die after the first boss by not even trying to catch up with his ninjapulling near the bridge while others hadt even looted yet, he ofc started flaming wildly , and suddenly the mage wrote "Enough of this Bull , a votekick popped with “toxic f-tard”, and suddenly the DH was no more and the rest of the run went smoothly.
But in 99% of the cases I´ve experiendced or watch on other´s streams, I probably would have been kicked before the first boss for daring to actually try to learn a spec instead of not being born as a Professional.
So I prefer to let that surprisingly positive expereince be the last one, so as to still be able to remind myself that, while that IME the majority do appear to be “useless”, cool players do actually still exist, even in PuGs
I am actually since a week starting to play tank again; but my main returning issue as tank is getting aggro. The aggro game is just so annoying. I want to play the survival game.
Which class do you play? Most of my tanks were rubbish at keeping aggro at lower ilvls, the average ret paladin or frost DK easily rips aggro early on.
Prot pala is in a crazy spot right now with DPS and threat, that could be a fun thing to mess around with
It’s especially fun with DPS warriors that don’t give you a chance.
Every pull at the start is a really dangerous time for tanks. It’s a panic to stay alive while building your resources and at the same time some dps pop all their cd’s on the first global while not targeting the same mob as the tank. They either die or make things harder for the tank. You can guess who will get the blame though.
One of the reasons why people don’t want to tank atm. Nothing about that interaction or gameplay is fun.
Indeed. Precisely this. I may pug as dps sometimes. But tank - guildies, community or friends only. If none are available then I will log off from a tank char than open lfg tool.
From that timestamp link - you pulled with a single target ability even though your avengers shield was ready. Just throw your shield…
If you’re getting wrecked on the pull then keep swinging blessed hammers to generate holy power then you can press sotr on the pull (also press AD if you don’t have wings / are scared) its got a really short CD.
Yea, watching more of that vid AAAARRRRGH PULL WITH AVENGERS SHIELD / press divine toll.
You never press it on the pack before the bridge that is full of casters. You walk in, judge one , shield another, hit pony and stare angrily at mob 3 and 4. AS > divine toll and you’ll never have aggro problems, the mobs will all group up because they can’t cast and you can stand there and flex at a job well done.
fair point. i could imagine, that it might improve the situation for trivial matters. like some event boss or the weekly raid boss or some hero/time dungeon just for the weekly.
but it would indeed not solve the problem.
this expansion is the first expansion that i am not doing group content anymore. i am full time tank since many years but… i must say… i am over group contetn
Is that your vid? Either way, in fairness, the other pulls were fine, just this one where perhaps the Consecration went down a little later and the DPS starter a bit sooner than they did on previous pulls.
As for the OP’s point, whilst adding a tanking spec to more classes would be welcome, looking at you Shamans, it doesn’t mean people will chose to play that role.
Tanking, as well as healing, has unique responsibilities which most just don’t want to take on. Additionally, some people will like pushing the top DPS and that is where they find enjoyment, which is totally valid. On top of that, it is usually the Tank or Healer which gets the most amount of grief from others in the group.
There are no quick fixes for the above points, so adding more tank specs would just allow current tanks to have a greater choice of which class they want to play. It wont mean then that the tank shortage would go away.
The changes to convince the warriors etc to tank have to be changes that add an intrinsic reward to playing the tank specs. Aka make it so the people playing the role are have having a good time.
I would still like a tank spec though so I can queue for all the 3 roles. Shaman is actually fun enough to heal as, unlike Holy paladin.
That’s true. I would play tank if I had a good time as a tank but that won’t happen cause in my case that would mean playing a tank would become as “easy” as playing a DD.
I don’t want to say being a DD is super easy but I am one since vanilla and for the content I play I can be relatively chill watch a video on second monitor and have a good time and it’s not detrimental to my game play. As a tank tho if I don’t have a good rota I will just die/make the healers life much more difficult then it should be.
So the only way to make being a tank good for me would be a very very easy tank where you can not do anything wrong and that would not be fair to other tanks and I doubt it would be fun for anyone else
Veng dh over brew really? Might be personally but I hate having to constantly double press my movement having to target it on the ground it’s a pita. Brew on the other hand is simple has good movement and most of their abilities are self explanatory. As long as you manage your stagger and defensives you’re good
I’d like to add that this isn’t an issue that can be solved by making more tank/healer specs, Blizz can add a tank and/or healing spec to every single class, but if people don’t want to heal or tank, the shortages will remain.
I have all the classes at 70 with about 3 of them at 80.
But that does not help with how they are still different characters that need to be geared up separately
I am completely convinced that even if this happened it wouldn’t help the shortage much. For the most part the people who like to Tank/Heal would check out these new specs/roles but the pure DPS Monkey people(Such as myself) would just check these specs out to use in Delves or open world stuff or whatever.
Should Shamans have an Earth based Tank spec? YES! Why this is not a thing yet is beyond me. Will my Shammy every be anything else but Enhancement? Lmao no.
As stated by others it wouldn’t make much of a difference. WoW isnt drawing that many new players anymore and those that are here know by now what they like, do not like and why. A new spec isn’t going to make people suddenly try it. That goes for healing too.
Because there are those who are willing to play tanks but the current roles of their class do not accommodate that. This makes the current tank bottleneck worse.
A lot of people prefer to play certain classes at a given time and unless they are Druids, paladins or Monks, they are limited in their selection of roles to fit the demand.
The big problem as many said above is that tanking is repulsive for a lot of people right now, but personally I am willing to bite the bullet and be the tank for easier content.
