Can someone explain how weapon skill actually works in PvP?
Here’s my situation: I’m a Ret Paladin with 305 sword skill. I just got an axe from AQ (C’Thun)(axe 300skill) — it’s got higher min damage, max damage, and DPS than the Rank 14 sword, plus +9 Strength. But when I equip the axe, my damage actually goes down compared to the sword.
Everything I can find online is about glancing blows and hit caps in PvE vs. bosses — nothing about any direct damage bonus in PvP. Anyone know exactly how it works, or have a good source that explains it for PvP? Thanks!
vs same / lower lvl mobs/players it’s -0.04 dodge,parry,miss,block and +0.04 crit. negates +defense.
In your sheet it displays auto attack damage, not dps unless you mouseover. your damage is AP/14*wep speed.
For 1k ap R14 sword: 506-624. DEOI: 504-614. this is because deoi is 3.5s, so ur dps increases but ur damage per hit goes down

Dark Edge of Insanity: 242–364, speed 3.5
Rank 14 Sword: 235–353, speed 3.8
So on paper the axe looks strictly better – higher min damage, higher max damage, higher DPS, and even +9 more strength compared to the sword.
But when I equip the axe, my character sheet shows 500–631 damage. With the sword equipped, it shows 508–634. Why is that? I don’t get it – the axe should hit harder in every way, and yet the displayed weapon damage range is lower. The DPS number is also higher with the axe (161.6 vs 150.3 with the sword).
Am I missing something obvious here? Is this because I have 305 skill with swords but only 300 with axes?
Your bonus AP is applied based on weapon speed. So each hit with the axe gets less of your bonus stats from gear, but the hits happen more often so your DPS is better.

Because slower weapons are still better. They changed the formula for it not being that important anymore but it actually still matters
I’m 99% sure the character sheet that shows weapon damage/dps is based on weapon skill. If you are wielding a weapon that you have poor skill in, the sheet will show a lower amount of damage compared to what’s actually on the weapon. That is, until you max out your weapon skill for that weapon, only then will the correct amount show. I’m pretty sure these are for PVE though, not PVP.
For me personaly i would use the axe in pvp just becous the chanse to disorigent.
For pve i use the sword becous of the extra 5 skill points in sword and hit is inportent.
