Doesn’t it unsheath anyway when you start the attack?
Yes, it does. A simple right-click with the mouse does the same thing, without the need for a macro.
I think this is more for looks more than anything.
Be that as it may, it’s literally part of what right-clicking a target does. As part of the base game. Even if you aren’t in range, if you right click a target then you’ll unsheathe your wep and enter a fighting stance while an error message keeps repeating that you’re too far away if you aren’t in melee range, and so on.
Unless you’re a hunter, then it just brings out the (x)bow or gun and starts shooting as long as you’re in range for ranged attacks.
It skips to you just holding the weapon ready though and doesn’t play the unsheathing animation like this macro makes you do.

Maybe I changed the keys myself ages ago and just forgot… But can’t you just press X?
X is for sitting, Z is for weapon.
… But why?
