Welcome to SilentCraft 😶

Can we talk about the current state of chat mutes and bans? Because honestly, it’s getting ridiculous.

Right now, you can get a 7-day ban for saying literally anything someone might find offensive. Doesn’t matter if it was a joke, sarcasm, or clearly not serious — if a few sensitive souls decide to mass-report you, that’s it. Banhammer time.

And it feels like half the playerbase these days is just running around with their report button ready, like that’s the entire minigame for them. Not playing the game — just hunting for things to get offended by.

What’s even worse is that this environment is making people scared to say anything at all. No more fun banter, no more joking in dungeons or BGs. Everyone’s acting like emotionless bots, just running through the content in silence.

This is an MMO — it’s supposed to be social. It’s supposed to be a game where people interact, make friends, maybe troll each other a little in good fun. But Blizzard’s current policies are killing that vibe.

Let me be clear — I’m 100% in favor of banning actual hate speech: racism, sexism, real toxicity. No one wants that. But handing out bans for harmless trolling or sarcasm? That’s just way over the line.

And don’t even get me started on the state of Customer Support. Blizzard claims that every ban is reviewed by a real person? Sure. Sounds nice on paper. But in reality, it feels like once you hit a certain number of reports, you’re autobanned, and good luck getting an answer to your appeal in under a week.

I miss the old days of LFG chat — it was chaotic, messy, sometimes annoying, but it had life. Now it’s just boring recruitment spam and dead silence.

Blizzard really needs to take a step back and reassess this whole punishment system. Right now, it’s doing more harm than good. People aren’t having fun anymore — they’re just walking on eggshells.

that is wow for you to a certain point, people who just wanna have there perfect team of players that make 0 mistakes and not talk/typ at all to them just run the dungeon or raid and you do good enough…

At least that’s the feeling i get sometimes when i play and if i still play since i am also not that much online anymore these days.

I also wish people could relax a bit more and take there time and have some fun and a laugh while playing even if it means failing a few more dungeons.

This thread offends me, prepare for an annual suspension!

how dare you say that, this asks for a mass report by me and my fellow players…

i got a 7 day chat ban and i had a blast, i was no more feeling obligated to guard a base (what good is a guard if they can’t call it in)
i then went on to mute myself via parental controls but then i couldn’t send mail to my alts… and that’s a major deal breaker.
when i see clowns i will sometimes call them clowns, most of the times i leave tho.
it happens even in professional sports, it’s the heat of the moment, I’m not going to impose higher standards on myself than people who get paid millions…
and if at some point they decide a perma ban is justified I’m fine with that too, my steam library is full of paid games i haven’t even touched

you should check the ā€œrussians own me in bgsā€ threads, apparently the forum moderators want that

Those after certain amount of cumulative penalties from chat reports also have to buy an new expansion soon for the new account they need to make, so I dont see it likely there would be any changes on the system or the social contracts if its making more money this way. If they would make ip bans instead of account bans I imagine the penalties would be different, mostly silences instead of perma bans from cumulative penalties. It is harsh system and it seems in some cases it seems just better not say anything even if someone would to respond others flaming at them to explain their own mistakes and the like, it all becomes reportable and it is better just not respond anything to anyone raging at us in game in any mode we might be in.

This game is played by adult men and women — hopefully with a healthy mind and decent self-esteem. But right now it feels like the game is full of delicate fairy princesses who get offended by absolutely everything.

The game is PG 12 and has rules accordingly.

You can’t abuse or insult others.

I’m offended by your obvious sarcasm

While we’re at it, lets cwucify him and cwucify him well…

Life of Brian reference, before people start getting upset

such a generic answer, it’s disappointing really.
you were 12 at some point, what will happen if Billy joins a basketball game at the school yard and starts kicking the ball instead of dribbling ?
or even better…it’s a private club, you pay to use the facilities, and you have Billy the griefer trying to hit his step daddy in the head instead of trying to score points.
Billy is not just a bad player, Billy is out of touch, Billy is abusing, Billy is insulting, there is no way to remove Billy from the game.
this is the equivalent of not playing objective in objective based pvp
If Blizzard allows Billy then I’ll allow myself to call him clown

It’s your choice to call someone names, but you are not free of the consquences of doing so. You aren’t guaranteed to be reported ofc. Penalties do add up though, if you are a frequent flyer.

obviously and obviously, that’s common knowledge.
and you are obviously so deep into the corporate line that we can’t discuss this any further, have a lovely night :hugs:

I’m not a member of staff. I’m just another player. Never been silenced.

My understanding of the system is that it will squealch you initially and then action will or wont be taken when a moderator reviews. Then you can appeal the silence if one is imposed.

It’s better not to vent your frustrations at others. Just gets you into trouble and it never makes anyone play better tbh. Nothing wrong with encouraging others ofc.

Is this real? You can be reported, but ban?

it was a first for me :stuck_out_tongue:
when i call someone a clown it’s a fact, a mere observation, I’m not venting my frustrations in the sense ā€œi had a bad day now I’ll take it out on randoms on the internetā€, it’s like the Dutch directness.
i don’t know about you but I’ll take any feedback, even if it has a ā€œclownā€ attached at the end of the sentence, i even record my games to see what i did wrong, i do stupid choices all the time

Anyone can have a bad day, but being direct can be said kindly :yum:

I used to live in NL i miss it.

I’m not, I would allow all of it. If you get offended by what some random person in game is saying then you have some issues to work on.

Back in the day when I was pvping in Diablo 2, amount of insults of every possible kind flying around was hilarious. We would literally just stand in town and spew the most obnoxious things at each other for 3 hours straight. It was the best laugh I ever had, even thinking about it makes me smile.

That’s a good idea. Its a massive document, be prepared.

And appeal if you find nothing reasonable.

Or did you mean something else?
