What class to play in Classic?

Hi guys, I actually tried to switch to my classic character, but it only gives me a list of my current DF characters lol. So I’ll post under this character again - kinda embarrasing.

So I played a bit of classic yesterday and today. I am slightly gripped NGL, it seems so janky but also not at the same time. Everything feels like it has a purpose. Every loot, gold, level feels valuable, where as retail its just faceroll autogenerated loot ding 70 youre at endgame now go.

So I have a lvl 10 warlock and warrior now. I did some reading and apparently racials matter a lot in classic.
So I always wanna tank or DPS, i’ve not really healed. Is prot a good spec in classic? Are warriors decent? Or should I opt for a valuable class?

Like for example maybe a warlock or priest or mage? What class is actually needed at end game?

A lot of questions, and (some) answers will vary depending on who you ask.

But first:

Like for example maybe a warlock or priest or mage? What class is actually needed at end game?

Don’t look for what class is needed, look for what you like to play. You have already tried a few and maybe already have an idea of which diretcion you want to go.

But since you wanted to DPS, that rules out Priest, since the only “allowed” spec is Healing for priests (over-exagerrating, I know but you won’t see many shadow priests in Classic).

Is prot a good spec in classic? Are warriors decent? Or should I opt for a valuable class?

I assume you mean Prot Warrior here (and not Prot Paladin, which is not viable in Classic). Warriors are very good both tank and dps wise

Racials does not matter that much unless you are min/maxing. Most of us arent, we enjoy Classic in our own pace with the ups- and downsides. But true, if you already know exactly what class and spec you want to play when you create your character, then you can select a racial for a little extra.

Solid choices - and welcome back to Classic. What content are you planning to do or focus on ?

Thanks  Appreciate it.

Yes I meant prot warrior. So most ppl here posting are Alliance, so I was just worried about choosing a dead faction or something like that.

ok im glad to hear most aren’t min-maxing, i think maybe that mentality is coming over from retail with me lol. ok i must just focus on the journey then and enjoyment.

Ok so no shadow priest or prot pala, that i understand thanks

i have no idea tbh, i never experienced classic, tbc or wotlk

then i will not recommend anything. i suggest you find out yourself. Classic is quite its own game. have fun

I have to say, play what you want and if you find a guild they will take you to raids, my personal favourite has always been DPS Shaman, ever since the Alliance got them, but that’s for TBC and later.

It’s true some classes are accepted more in PuG raids but a big part of the Era experience is levelling and levelling something you don’t like is a chore.

Warriors are one of the harder classes to level in Classic Era, I like ones with a self heal, except paladins, who need some love in Era.

As to the characters, try a logout of the forums, then log back in again, that can refresh the list, as long as they are over 10 they should appear.

It is impossible to advice any class, you should find it on your own. There aren’t useless classes, but classes and their roles can be a bit different from what you are used to.

Prot war is best tank in classic having absolute dominance over paladins and druids.
Though you should expect that tank positions in guild would be already taken by higher geared people.
Still warrior can be best dps in game if you don’t mind being dps warrior.

Warlocks kinda tricky. In classic times devs weren’t sure what they want warlocks to be, so they are some mixture of support+dps. Highly geared warlock can be top dps but until then you would probably play role of guild support with soul shards, summons and elemental debuff with some sort of dps role.

Since you don’t have to chase anything cause Classic is in frozen state you can take your time figuring what you want to play without any haste

Is warrior The King of Classic? Only viable tank and the best DPS.
Are druids viable at all? I can’t find a single good spec for them in Classic.
If I want to heal then priests and paladins are the viable options. But healing will be the only role I will be doing.
For DPS I can see that beside The King mages, locks and rogues are good. Of these four, which one do you recommend? Or just personal preference.
Is respec a thing in Classic?

Druids are excellent healers in Classic, don’t dish your own class
They are a bit more gear-dependent than other healing classes.

so if im on classic era, am i there forever? can never go TBC?

i am level 13 lock now and 11 warrior and a few small chars here and there.

I was doing the lock quest and I was in this cave called ‘explore troll cave fully’ and i was getting rekt so hard. i found this hunter at lvl 9 as i was running away and he asked me for help. I was like broo i need help from you lol!
and we teamed up and it was really nice, we both fought together and it was so much easier.
we finished some quests together and then he hearthstoned.

I have never had that in retail.

but heck classic is HARDDDD lol, everything is deadly, 2 mobs? oh no this is srs.
3 mob? hope you can run away before you get killed.

so it really makes every small improvement feel important.
i took up alchemy and made this potion which gave me 50 extra armor. at the time i only had 112 armor so it was like a 50% increase and its so cool.

Yes, that is the case, progression realms now start at Wrath.

People in Era do help more, same usually goes for Wrath too. If you are trying to get your voidwalker then the other races version (undead) is easier but I’m not sure if you can do them in Era.

Never say never. At the moment there is no TBC anyway.
But if in the future Blizzard releases some version of TBC, transfers might be possible, who knows.

Can’t say for sure but you prob would see official tbc in next idk 10 years. Classic had tbc not long ago, vanilla classic era won’t move to tbc.

Separate tbc era servers are prob a vague dream since classic servers showed how little player base is that wants to stay. If tbc era would be released vanilla community would be divided again so neither era would have enough players to enjoy them.
So summing up - no I think you wouldn’t see tbc ever again

Hi all, so im having a lot of fun, I took a deeprun tram and went to SW, then back to Ironforge via Gryphon, did some quests between the two places. Went back and killed an elite I had issues with prior.
Finally have a voidwalker. Everyone that runs past me (not many tbh) buffs me and my pet. its just so cool.

but i am worried about a few things.
Should I be on classic ERA or seasonal? In 3 months seasonal moves to wotlk if im correct? or am I not?
I am just worred about the number of players on classic ERA, trade chat is dead, i dont really have like ppl to play with. And the AH has maybe like 50 listings.
So idk i tried selling some stuff super cheap on AH, like 1 copper above vendor and nobody bought it.

should i rather do wotlk classic?

You don’t have to worry anymore about SoM cause it will stop existing in February.

Number if players not sure. It depends or your server cluster. I have enough players on Firemaw cluster, trade chad isn’t dead much. You can still buy most things but some specific like for quest you will probably have to drop farm and ask guild for crafting.
I had warlock quest for robe that required to give to questgiver rare 2% tailoring receipt drop robe from specific entry that wasn’t sold at all on ah. I had to go farm 2h till it dropped and I gave receipt with materials to guild mate (which is I think is good classic era side).

Selling resources is difficult because there is another factor: most people take gathering even on mains and provide themselves so they don’t need to rely on a bit dead ah so they won’t need you ore unless this is smth rare or really needed even on high level.

after all this posting and research you should now be either on Firemaw or Pyrewood. 50 items on the AH suggests you picked the wrong server cluster. may i ask where you are now and what faction?

Even at healing? Have you rolled a different class? What do you recommend?

I recommend not to listen him. If his Druid life is pain it doesn’t mean everyone feel the same way

You should be on Era if you only want to play 1-60 forever. SoM (Seasonal) ends on 14th February and the servers will be closed down and all characters left on there will be lost. You can transfer to Era or Wrath for free from SoM realms until that date.

On Era there are not that many people and since everything that is going to be realised for it has been released, all raids and content, most people only log in to do raids after the weekly reset.

Personally I would and do play Wrath, but that is your choice. If you play on the Seasonal realms then you should move to either Firemaw PvP Era or Pyrewood Village PvE Era realms or the same name realms for Wrath, but be VERY careful when you choose as it cannot be reversed if you get it wrong.

The realm cluster you are playing on will make a difference in Era. There are 3 in total PvE, PvP1 and PvP2. All PvE realms are connected and PvP1 with Firemaw is the busiest PvP realms.
