What determines fun class for you?

Im curious about other peoples opinion on “fun class”

Personally for me i always get stuck on this point with wow.

First point “play what you enjoy”.

Well that would indicate playing a class i find fun, Seems easy enough. I like class fantasy and also completing transmog sets maxing professions. All good from an RP stand point.

Then we get to my competetive side. Im a former pro athlete. I thrive on conpetition and winning and being the best at what i do. So then if the class i play under performs either through error or balancing. The frustration is i would like to play a class more suited to “winning” or being the best, but then i lose all my work on professions transmogs etc i put in.

How do you determine picking what you enjoy, can class tuning destroy what you enjoy? Or are you more playstyle class fantasy? Or are you someone who prides yourself with winning?
These days? Top dps, and it pains me to say that. After the big purge (ott pruning) I've gone through every single class 110. Rogues the only class I find some what enjoyable. And only outlaw... as it's a very fast, spammy class that works decent.

I've yet to find another class that's really fluid and fun. Playing mage at the mo and it doesn't seem amazing, quite clunky.

fluid and fun.

Same for me and this is not easy to find...

My main at Legion was an unholy DK which is currently...dead-> rerolled fotm blood in BFA which is quite fluid and really tanky.

My second toon in Legion was a druid guardian I don't play anymore, became so boring (and less tanky...)

I tried frost mage in BFA, hated the cycle, so went back to fire mage which is more dynamic, flashy... and fire received some love from Blizz :)

Plenty of classes look sluggish (because of mighty GCD?), gameplay is usually not fluid.
If it's viable for arena
I can't really put words on what exactly makes a fun class for me...
Before my break I preferred druid, shaman and warlock - I played a lot of pvp and found these classes fitted me well.

After returning I am practically a new player because of the changes, and therefor I have had the need to play every class to find the ones I like again.
I still like druid, shaman and warlock but I have recently found the mage as a class I like.

Before I found the mage very strange and confusing - maybe the problems was, that I had to think too much when playing it ;)
When I play now with the mage, I can better calculate what skills I need to use, how to play against more attackers and in general I have some sence of way to predict my changes when standing in front of enemies.
casual pvp aka 1v1 viabillity so you wont be forced to hide behind a group of players to have fun, independence is fun, wow dev team is clearly against that obviously based on most casters

Of course the pve should also be fun, as much as i like the burst of arcane in pvp i cant stand its playstyle in raids.

fluid and fun

This. The classes I currently enjoy the most are fury war, outlaw rogue and I'd go for my DH in 3rd position.

I regret that the classes are not a bit more complicated to master. It would be much more interesting if there was more spells and buffs to use to max out your damage and really use your class at its full potential.
just demon hunter
/lol, /train and the casting animations were the dealmaker for me.
fast fluid and destructive.
DH fury warr are my favorite. Or used to be anyway.
healer when i want to chill. But my pally has the most punishing mastery that's bothering me to no end

Ow and hunter when i just want to chill and not think about anything
- Fluid gameplay
- No downtime
- Good mobility
- A bit self heal never hurts

So basically classes like DH and Warrior
What determines a fun class for me ?

- a learning curve
- complexity (more complex = better)
- exciting abilities
- many situational abilities (big toolkit)

so basically everything the game hasn't had for the last 4 years.

for me MoP had the best class mechanics and complexity with exciting - hard to master spells like alter time, soul swap, spectral guise etc.

You might wanna try affliction warlock, cause it still has all those.

Learning curve is still there as is the complexity depending on talent choice and encoutner you do vastly different things. (admittedly a bit less than in legion cause we just have less things overall)
It has deathglare and deathbolt which at least to me are kind of exciting and requires some setup and are very rewarding if used correctly.
Its a warlock it has Healthstones, portals, demonic circle, fears, summons, different pets for different encounters.
I do not think you will find a class with a whole lot more of situational utility either.

Yes many classes are boring and have been stripped of cool things but to say there is none out there that tick the boxes you listed is kind of dishonest as well.

It is hard to say that I have one class that is absolutely the only class that I enjoy playing. I see this as "Need Basis". For example, I am a Druid, with my class I could dps in Balance or Feral, Heal as Restoration and Tank as a Bear (Guardian). Do I? No I do not. I prefer healing in Restoration and dps in Balance and tank as a Blood DK :)

The point is you are right,

I do not enjoy Guardian so I choose not to play it. I believe that in someway we pick what we enjoy from other classes. I also believe that, that is why we have so many Alts :)

I do not think we have a "Main Character", I think we have a character that we like to play more in a certain situation...

Agreed with this. There's still a learning curve, cause if you mess up on 1 ability, you can mess up the whole rotation. If you need to move, you need to learn to adapt the movement into your rotation. If you use Deathbolt or Darkglare wrong, you lose 2-4k DPS (Maybe more). There's a decent amount to an affli lock, but not as much as Legion (Though, Legion, we were busted and seriously OP).
1. Ability to move during combat
2. Ability pacing - I like fast paced specs
3. Ranged abilities
4. Multiple roles - Having many different classes counters this though
5. Unique abilities/situational toolkit
6. Robes

My all time favourite specs have always been Restoration Druid, Affliction Warlock and Enhancement Shaman.

I have had a few other specs in between these based on how they play from expansion to expansion, but the 3 above are the ones that has never grown old on me.
For me that would be pace of combat (I enjoy faster) and having a tool-set that you could use a bit out-of-the-box and to be self sufficient up to a point...
Well let's take my Hunter here for example.

RP/Class Fantasy:
IRL I am a lover of animals & wildlife. But I know enough about it to not romanticise it. The way I see it, archetypes like Druids worship & protect nature.
Whereas the Hunter/Ranger archetypes are part of it. We are predators, just like the wolf pack or solitary puma. This enables us to understand & develop bonds with wild beasts that most would be too scared of.
Hunters typically value their freedom & solitude, don't do well around large groups of people & love animals & respect nature (Unless you're a Nesingwary style big game hunter). All traits in which I share as a person & value in other people.

Class Traits & Abilities:
Hunters, especially my favourite BM are notoriously easy.
This is a positive to me. I don't feel a sense of superiority by playing more complicated specs/classes. Simple to play means more focus on mechanics, enemy players & the world around me.

Allows risk taking.
Abilities like Feign Death allow me to pull way more than many other classes without risk. If I overestimate my opponents I can simply pretend to be dead & approach differently.
Disengage allows me to jump from great heights without risk of death.

Crowd Control & mobility
Traps, some pet abilities, being able to attack while moving constantly, Disengage, heals, Turtle & so on is a combination that makes us a nightmare to deal with in PVP as well as a valuable asset in Dungeons & Raids.

Pets.
The main reason I even chose to play Hunter all those years ago when I first played WoW.
Pets give us a list of abilities that are useful in many or niche situations.
They are one of the biggest reasons Hunters are one of the best solo-content classes in the game.
As a bonus they are like another part of our Transmog.
Finding the pet that works perfectly with your mog is so very satisfying.
This aspect makes every race in the game feel different.
My Void Elf Hunter with the purple & yellow Panthara has a very different vibe from my Highmountain Hunter with the Savage Warwolf.

BM Hunter's fantasy, play-style, animal companion, toolbox & solo-ability ticks pretty much every one of my boxes & every time I play another RPG I'll look for the BM Hunter equivalent.

Fantasy, mobility, ease of play & toolbox when simplified.
I enjoy Havoc Demon Hunter a great deal also for those reasons.
1. Disco Priest: [the new facemelter on the block]

2. Demon Hunter: [more mobile than an iPhone]

3. Mistweaver Monk: [psychedelic trance healing]

EDIT: Used to love Paladin Tanking [stick to the boss like glue aggro-wh.re]
but the GCD nerf makes them feel clunky asfk atm.
They are all boring since Legion and especially after BfA.
