What did legion have that BfA does not?

Things I miss from legion.

Legendaries that greatly changed game play. Love the grind when I was bored, rares/old raids/dungeons all added to the chance of one dropping.

Miss set pieces like crazy, beautiful class sets. That you could easily tell if someone was a LFR hero, or mythic raider. Item’s I actually cared about, and new the name of every single set. Off the top of my head… couldn’t tell you any armour piece names in BfA. Literally couldn’t care less.

We had kara, outdoor pvp objectives. Pantheon trinkets/ BiS items from raids, gave you a nice target to clear LFR, normal, hero then mythic. As well as raid quests.

We had reason to do dungeons and pvp daily, for currency. No need to set foot in them in BfA. We had daily/weekly portals that were cool. We had mage tower, and plenty of awesome mogs. Weekly bosses that dropped hidden weapon skins.

We had no welfare and easy heroic raid level gear. Youd literally hit 120. First week would spank normal dungeons, then heroic dungeon gear. Then LFR and low keys. The next week would be LFR and more low keys. Which would just about get you in normal raid. A couple weeks of that for the set items/trinks and more keys. You’d then be heroic raid ready.

Now you hit 120, and can get 400 ilevel in 2 night’s (thats what it took my last toon to get 400). Absolute no point in raids, just wait on emissary. And get chucked tons of 400 items for absolutely nothing challenging.

Mission were worth it, gave tons of gold. Classes felt amazing before they got pruned to hell. You could make proper twinks at 101 and make nice cash off boosts, that’s been hit hard BfA.

We didn’t have insane scaling, and felt a proper progression in power. We had big meaty quests, like the suramar chain. PvP wasn’t an absolute mess because scailing.

We had amazing amount class zones, with easy full class transmogs. That had a wide range of interesting characters, and quest lines.

The more you do it, the more addictive it gets… Uh. BFA is the first expansion where I have had this many alts at max this early on.

No seriously, it isn’t for all, but it seems to give some of us the illusion we’ve got plenty to do, or something?

I like BFA though. I like the story, but it had to grow on me, and I like what is coming. I had a sneak peak at the PTR.

Fun?

I like raiding. I do not like to repeat kills for loot however. I don’t care for loot, other than it being a tool to soften progression.

I guess for me im a target based person who feels the need for quick satisfaction.
Like at work I take it as how much I can do per day.
But with the end being weeks away the motivation is harder to keep going than days away.

Well let’s start with the obvious one;

  • The artifact weapon was a million times better than the stupid neck and azerite armor.
  • The Legion Legendaries gave awesome cutomizability when it came to rotations/playstyle.
  • The class content was really cool imo
  • Titanforging was better than it’s now in BfA
  • Way better release schedule for new content
  • Missions were actually useful
  • AP, while a grind, felt actually useful to get, unlike AP in BfA

Those were just from the top of my head. I’m sure there’s more.

I can totally see that.

It is easier for me to level my 110’s, than getting my lower ones up. I think setting a goal that is not getting to 120 could work, but you need to set your mental state to it for real. Back in WotLK I had a goal to reach exalted with all the main cities by the time my priest hit level 30… It didn’t work, but I got the Ambassador title before level 40… I enjoyed it loads, but eventually decided to level past it. It made the road to level 30, and then 40, a breeze though. And I had fun. But yeah, that fun/motivation isn’t always easy to find. You could level something with me though, if you like. We could try that, but yeah…

To be honest I forgot they were fun lol. Every guild I’ve join in months are dead. Constant flood of new people that quit very fast. And friends list has gone from 20 regulars, to just me.

God I use to love raid night. Was always well excited to get everyone online.

I hated the AP grind in Legion and I hate it in BfA.

I did take a break from raiding that lasted for many years. When I started raiding again in mid Legion(right before Tomb of Sargeras was released), I had not raided since Ulduar in WotLK… I had a few attempts in between, but always felt like “nope, this isn’t for me anymore”, until Gul’Dan heroic in Nighthold, which is where I got pulled into this guild with my alt and got hooked again.

My guild has never been dead during BFA actually. We have lost a few and gained a few, but never dropped to low activity.

I wasn’t a fan of Legion, in fact I see everything after Mists as a waste of potential, but I do see BfA as worse. And I agree with several people above on why.

  • Class Quests and Artefacts added some variation to alts.
  • I had finished levelling alts before scaling infected the world in 7.3.5, but I had to suffer it from the start in BfA.
  • Artefact trait trees added a degree of genuine character progression at max level.
  • Some Legendaries had fun effects.
  • The story. Really, BfA story has been putrid from the start.

P.S. Sorry, I forgot Suramar. Suramar was a masterpiece of its kind - well, it is the only one of its kind in WoW so far  - but it was well designed and superbly executed. BfA has nothing to touch it.

Just the DK class hall campaign was in itself a hundred times more interesting than running errands for lover boy Nathanos.

We had cool class hall campaigns, better class identity, nice Artifact abilities, skins, mogs, Mage Tower (!), more lively community, etc

Yeah its hassle.

Class halls, mage tower, artifacts and legendaries.

First off, Legion is the best addon in this game, I doubt it will ever be topped off but I was wrong about WotLK so hope I’ll be wrong again

Class halls was a really cool concept and all the story surronding them was really neat

Mage tower was great entertainment, I did em all and enjoyed it a lot, some might say SP games would be more suited to me, I disagree, just beacuse its mmo doesnt mean everthing must be co-op.

Artifacts. The whole concept was great, from unlocking traits, to finally getting that skin you had your eye on for a long time, to the lore behind them. Just great.

Legendaries. Great concept too, changing the way to play the class, opening niche uses, and everytime you did something there was always that “I can get a legendary” feeling

Honorable mention to the pvp system, while not perfect I believe it should be improved on perhaps with some way to allocate the secondaries to some degree, but I believe templates is the way to go. BfA pvp system is my pet peeve with this addon.

The things that made Legion feel alive compared to BFA was the stuff that was there outside of Raiding.

BFA has 2 major problems, Classes are pruned so hard everything feels the same, everything is a builder spender class with 2 builders and 2 spenders and a bunch of procs, archetypes have been diluted so hard they’re basically nonexistant at this point. And the world has no content.

BFA is solely centered around M+ and Raiding and PvP, and PvP just doesnt feel good when every class can do everything and feels the exact same.

Legion had class variety and some form of individual world content available, there were mounts in the rep lootboxes so there was always an incentive to farm rep every day, PvP felt good because classes were at least somewhat unique and had an identity, raiding was what it always was and M+ was the new hot thing.

AND on top of all this we had stuff like Suramar and the Mage Tower.

Cinematics before and after defeating the final boss that told you the plot in a very visual and exciting way

Interesting legendaries

More class abilities including unique artifact ones

For that time new tier of talents for 110 lvl

M+ felt like something new and was balanced pretty nice

Dynamic fighting due to no gcds that time

Variety of quests and pvp activity which was fun to play

Awesome sets. The fact people still go to EN or TS for mythic sets says everything

Tons of awesome artifact skins + mage tower challenges

Very interesting story behind the whole expansion which people wanted to listen to and play

No doubt Legion was the best thing ever happened to WoW after Woltk. It was an amazing experience which every player would remember

BFA is a huge dissapointment after Legion

Whelp done, close the thread, its all been said, grest answer!

  1. Better class design
1.5. More diverse class design, with more abilities, less emphasis on talents.
  2. No added GCD’s
  3. Legendaries*

*I’m gonna add my own view of legendaries here because they were so polarizing, the acquisition method was terrible for top tier players but it was absolutely necessary to keep the carrot on the stick. I was actually happy and excited every time I got one despite it being a useless one, if I just bought one after X weeks of grinding a currency they would’ve felt lame.

More like BfA is Legion 2.0, but yeah the differences really are nothing. Both suck.
