What did legion have that BfA does not?

I have 5 Void elves at 120 (monk, priest , Hunter , warrior , warlock [rogue is on the way too] , human mage , Draenei paladin, Night elf Druid (KT Humans are Strange as Druid :/) blood elf priest … If 8.2 it’s not so big I would work on my Horde team xD
I am working on my Draenei Shaman and a gnome priest xD never played with gnome before BfA … they are so cool
Legion had Class orderhalls and interesting Lore and ifc Illidan … it felt epic… and now it’s slow (story, content) and not much to do

Awesome post by the way you covered like almost all of it!

But yes that^^ for the most part… The War Campaign for BFA VS Class order Hall campaign + Suramar Legion…

The winner is very clear I believe

I would also like to point out that even though canon about nightborne is that horde saved them, it was still about both factions, the story is pretty much neutral …

While in BFA alliance is doing literally nothing the whole time, and from the look of it the second half of BFA is going to be alliance only (with horde probably having story only because they have another garrosh)

Legion changed combat rogues to Outlaw, Spriests were completely re-vamped (Excuse the pun)
Warlocks were re-done
Survival hunters were made into a melee base class.
Every class had 3 or even 4 artifact weapons, each artifact had a quest line to do (Which were mainly really fun)
Each artifact had skins to collect
Mage tower challenges and the artifact skins to obtain from there
World quests
The world weekly bosses
Mythic plus dungeons
Honour system and rewards
We finally killed Gul’dan, Kil Jaeden and Sargeras
Karazhan was brought back
Legendaries to obtain made doing old raid content and low mythic gear still fairly fun as you always had the chance to get one.

Now BFA;
Brought in the GCD change that sucked a55 and made classes feel slow and clunky
Island expeditions - Absolute cr@p
Warfronts - Absolute cr@p
Removed set bonuses and tier pieces
Removed Legendaries
Removed Artifact and its ability
Sylvannas wants to kill Thrall…Apparently??
45 min Dungeon que times
28 min BG que times
No class identity
Every class plays the same

I honestly cannot think of ONE good thing about BFA except maybe the art and the music but cmon who really plays wow for its graphics or music.

BFA is by far the worst expansion to date and although Legion was far from perfect, it was atleast 15x better than this pathetic excuse for an expansion

–Artifact weapon vs Neck–
Can barely compare the two. Just an AP-level grind vs gaining traits every x levels, increasing it’s power, gaining extras and well the obtainable looks were great. Hidden appearances, challenge appearances, Balance of Power, PvP level etc etc. What did we get in return? A silly neck which “empowers” three items. Three items lacking offstats otherwise. It just feels odd.

–The red line–
The Suramar storyline was hated by some, but I think we can all agree it had much more depth and offered a bit more fun and feeling of progression than the Champion of Azeroth “”"“story”""" and the warfront quests per zone, just doing a WQ or 4 every day for mr Bronzebeard hoping it’ll give enough rep to upgrade your neck a.s.a.p. Great alternative //sarcastic cough//.

–RNG–
Highly implemented in both expansions. At least in Legion you could get a Legendary, even though it decreased the value of Legendaries to a sad level - they were still fun to get. It felt quite bad if you received the worst ones, but hey, an orange name is still an orange name

–GCD–
Doesn’t need an explanation right? Ding 106, Legendaries are worthless and now (given you used the ring with haste) you hit as fast as a turtle with migraine. Great.

–Class hall/story–
Exploring another class had something fun, at least for the first time. Discovering their class hall, getting the weapons for each spec and following their quest-lines towards the class-specific mounts (Druid flight form, yum) was fun for most classes (for me at least). What we got in return: Nada.

–Old raids–
Either for Balance of Power if you slacked, for Legendaries or rep/fun/appearance/w/e…there was often a group up and running for even out-dated content. Uldir is, well, highly deserted. Perhaps an achievement-run once in a blue moon but that’s it.

However, I do still enjoy BfA

Uldir died so fast ! it’s kind of crazy how it died before BoD even went live

Never got bored in legion, not once. Tons to do, and if you had a couple alts. You had loads to do in a week.

In BfA I’ve got 8x charas 400+. And I’ve had 3 breaks where I’ve unsubbed. And probs gonna have another break this weeek till 8.2 lands.

But what more was there to actually do in Legion though?

Edit: spaz hand typos

Wrote a pretty meaty post further up, post #21. Way more content, and took much longer to get from fresh dinged 110, to top tier gear. You really had to work up the content from the bottom to the top.

Now you just spam keys for 3 days to get 400 ilvl. Then prsy for weekly 410 box to be something good.

Mists of pandaria, warlords of draenor (and 1year of abandonment for legion) went in to make legion.
BFA was made in the time of legion and wod but also got held off because of making of legion.

It is funny to me how fast people forget the problems in legion.
And legion had almost 3 times as long development time as BFA and we are not even halfway in the expansion yet.
There are full-blown MMORPG games that had less development time then what Legion had.

Where have you read any of this? Sounds made up to me…

I must admidt you are not wrong there, Legion had it’s flaws.
The problems with BfA are maybe even linked (partially to development times).
Islands and Warfronts are simply boring features, much potential there going to waste. The Azerite armor just misses what it was supposed to do and seems to be a rather unfinished feature. These three one might be able to blame on development times.

The lore… well it’s my opinion but the entire kick off (Teldrassil) of this addons seemed so bad timed and missplaced.
I still think that if Blizz manages to pull something big they could turn this “ship” around. Something that would leave the game changed fundamentally (new faction, change of factions or the likes).

Coming back on topic:
I loved the Class Halls (made me level ALL classes to max for the first time).
The legendarys, even if annoying to a certain degree kept me going, I stopped playing many toons the moment I had certain legendarys because they were the carrot at the end of the stick.
The overall story had grandeur and the artifacts were significant.

Oh and very important to me: The story made sense AND we were bridgin the faction gap lore wise. I loved this about the order halls, because I think WoW has grown out of this god damn eternal alliance VS horde storyline. If we need a conflict like that we need a new faction. But that’s just my opinion

I would add weekly hotfixes (for PvP) but you already included that, kinda.

Engaging content… you have the same stuff in BfA.

You are also listing stuff added in later content patches. We’ve not had their second content patch yet.

Please list an example of engaging content in BFA. I would love to see where it is.

Please read and understand what I wrote.

BfA is worse because they threw everything out the window that happened in Legion.

Legion had a wonderful start. Tons of people was hyped about Demon Hunters, getting the artifact weapons are still the coolest quests in the game, the leveling zones were good, leading up to the fight against the Legion, Suramar was absolutely amazing.

BfA start… We get a necklace and each faction loses a city, we lose our artifacts so at least they can add the active artifact abilities as a talent… great. After being hyped to fight against the void, they threw united Azeroth out the window and we get a MoP 2.0 storyline. Evil warchief, Thrall coming back soon, people who worked together a week ago now annihilating each other, its stupid.

They took away tier sets and legendaries, which had its own problems that’s for sure, but they added Azerite gear which had the potential to be the great, but they screwed it up and its more painful than getting a legendary in Legion from 7.0 to 7.1.5. They thought that farming the same Azerite pieces with higher ilvl and constantly having to reunlock the traits was a good idea and i don’t understand what they were thinking. Most of the traits doesn’t even effect the gameplay, when we get them its just a dmg number increase or a secondary stat increase. Those are as interesting as Versatility.

BfA’s new contents are just bad, like really bad. I enjoyed island expeditions 1 or maybe 2 times and that’s about it, doing it more than that is just painful, you are most likely not going to get anything out of it other than 2500 AP… Warfronts are the same, even though it has more potential than island expeditions, but they decided to not give us a PvP mode which is one of the biggest mistakes ever, and the PvE mode is just a braindead zerg rush for a 400 ilvl gear every 2 weeks. At least it has better rewards than island expeditions but i still can’t imagine doing it more than once.

Instead of giving us new races in BfA, they decided to give us reworked old races. Fat human (its pretty sad that this one is the most creative one), yellow eyed draenei, purple blood elf, black dwarf, nightborne colored night elf, brown orcs, tauren with different horns, trolls who can stand properly… Most of these could’ve been further customization for already existing races instead of making a new one but hey, they needed it to make people stay and p(l)ay.

BfA is just an overall terrible expansion with reused good ideas and horrible new ideas. WoD had its issues with the amount of content and i didn’t played a lot during that expansion, i just logged in to do mythic dungeons and heroic HFC 1 time a week but at least i enjoyed doing that. I still only log in once a week but as soon as i’m in the game i just want to log out. At this point i’m just waiting for 8.2, if that turns out to be garbage as well then most likely i’m out for good.

Depended on the class.

A reason to play. Just kidding, legion didn’t really have a reason to play either, but compared to BfA legion was pretty great. Also Mage Tower and Class identity. We don’t have any of that anymore, no new abilities, no new class tmog, no class mount etc. BfA is basically WoD 2.0 in the sense that the only thing you can really do is farm mounts from older content and do instances, oh and ofc the over repetitive world quests. The latter feels way more repetitive than the ones from legion, way slower, no world quest finder either. It feels like everyday I log in I start running laps on every character: Do the emissaries, if the character needs gear I’ll check for gear WQ’s, check if there’s a warfront up/ the portal is up so I can go pull on the lever of the mount slot machine, do all the LFR’s that don’t have a high wipe ratio (so not the G’huun and Restless Cabal ones), do all the raids that I need mounts/pets from, do the dungeons that drop mounts/pets, do a speed run of Return to Karazhan for the ember wyrm & midnight mount, check for rares & world bosses that drop mounts/pets/toys and hop over to the next character rinse and repeat. To be fair, it fills my time, but it in no way shape or form feels good. I’m not playing the expansion, I’m not doing anything of BfA because it feels bad. This is all I’m doing in WoW, even at the start of BfA this was all I felt compelled to do in game, hence why I quit in like october and returned 15~ days ago hoping there’d be new stuff to do, but alas. Everything is a grind now, there’s no refreshing stuff to do. No reason to gear, because next patch will bring even easier & higher level gear to get so I can run the world quests in that zone instead of KT & Zandalar. No reason to run the raids because next LFR will give better gear than the previous one and I can just get the transmog next expansion, the PvP transmog is too much of a grind and only good for like 2 races. Allied races need to be leveled from the bottom up for their gear so there’s not even a way to buy myself out of the tedious garbage that is leveling, and I already have all classes close to max level anyways. There’s only a few specs that are fun to do Island Expeditions on, but then again it’s mindless mob grinding for a chance of vanity loot that has no impact on your gameplay.

TL;DR: WoW has become a rogue like with the only permanent progression being mounts/pets/transmog. Every patch the majority of your progression gets reset and you just have to run on the hamsterwheel again so your next hamsterwheel start spinning a little faster. Breaking it down like that has made me feel even worse about the game, man why won’t Blizz make Azeroth great again.

Name at least ONE engaging content in Legion. (With the exception of mage tower and chromie cause dey did come later). And obviously besides Raids/Dungeons/PvP because BfA has that too.

Class halls were just a garrison 2.0 with a small questline, once done its done.
Same for timegated suramar questline.

Hard to call that “content” when you can do that in few hours and its not really “engaging” since its not replayable.

Story and lore were far better, don’t deny it but saying there was a lot stuff to do is helluva exaggeration. There wasn’t anything. Did all questlines for all classes, specs including mage tower and took a break for half a year because grinding is not my type of “engaging” content.
