What didn't you like about a specific expansion?

I am wondering whats your reason that you don’t like a specific expansion. I don’t want this to be a topic to hate on the game and expansions but just to show what you think was bad in whichever expansion.

In WoD i really liked building my garrison, but when every building was at level 3 than it just felt like a daily chore you need to do, and story was all over the place.

I thought I am gonna like BfA story but it ended up being bad. I thought it was gonna be more down to earth expansion, but we ended up fighting Old Gods… And also I didnt like having 2 continents. Zones were great, but each faction was mostly just in their 3 zones where their town was so the world felt really small.

In Shadowlands my biggest problem is how zones were isolated. i get it that it makes sense lore-wise but I just hate it that we dont have a normal continent, and every time you want to go to another zone you need to fly.

Ive liked them all tbh, some had better features than others, but can’t say i dislike any of them

So far the worst expansion is Cataclysm due to the revamp and removal of pre-cataclysm content. Shouldn’t be too difficult to re-add these to retail, just throw Zidormi in to Stormwind/Ogrimmar, and have flying disabled in the pre-cataclysm phase. This phase would also be the perfect opportunity to make the removed old versions of instances like the four SM wings, Scholomance, UBRS and Zul’gurub available again.

Yeah sorry I worded my title wrong, I changed it now. I ment like what aspec of some expansion you didn’t like, it doesnt mean that you hated the whole expansion. For example dungeons could have been fun, but leveling could have been boring etc.

Legion: Artifact weapons. They made it impossible to play alts or off-specs.

BFA: Heart of azeroth, azerite armor, essences, corruptions. They made it impossible to play alts and even gated your main behind it.

I’ve only really got Shadowlands to go on so I’m not sure if this is expansion specific or something that’s always been here but I absolutely hate how a new patch will instantly make the previous one obsolete.

For example, there’s a couple of transmog pieces I want from castle nathtia as well as the memory from my bis dungeon legendary but after 3 days of queueing for LFR I’ve yet to find a single group.

It just a strange design philosophy to me that everybody has to progress through content at the exact same time with no reason to ever look back outside of transmog and mount runs.

Wrath : making Arthas a B show enemy
Cata : Death wing fight
MOP : content drought
Wod : lacked 1 tier
Legion : ap grind and artifact preventing from playing off specs
BFA : essences and corruptions were too much and unnecessary systems
SL : Too many layers of useless complex unfun system and having to wait for 9’2 to get a chores free game

I didn’t like BfA because it was Horde v Alliance and after teaming together so long to save the world it honestly felt like the biggest let down. I also play both factions so I had zero interest in pitting against each other and it felt completely wrong for my character, who at this point should be neutral. I also hated Mechagon. The void stuff was interesting enough, though.

everything that came past wotlk/cata, revamp of old world, new class combat that’s more competitive (even though that’s only thing left in wow that I like), rework of professions - they felt more and more useless then in previous classic expansions, rework of lvling - was too easy and therefore got boring to do / was fast, but they could do it some other way for example to put option to increase xp gains or something… / reputation grind from newer expansions is so bad, like ZM patch, the worst rep grind that ever happened to wow. Talent rework / no talent trees, progression and gearing is bad because it is so fast to gear up as well as progression scaling / ilvl gap is too big, that gear from previous patch is useless. I dislike flying in world, I liked begining of shadowlands because of that / I am ganker in open world pvp so thats why.

WotLK, it made the game seasonal where you only play the latest tier released instead of all expansion content.

Vanilla: The quests that made you go back and forth over and over across the entire world
Cata: The world revamp and that underwater zone which was ok once , horrible on alts + wish they would take the cata out of the zones changed as it dates all the zones they messed with now.
MOP : hated the story, concept and really the entire expansion, stopped playing WOW during it
WOD : lack of content
SL: to many systems, to grindy, alt unfriendly.

TBC, WOTLK, Legion, BFA I had no huge issue with.

BFA: I didn’t like class design it felt empty and GCD changed completely destroyed FUN for me in this game

I didn’t like covenants because covenant abilities felt like something from different game very little class specific stuff
I didn’t like what they with torghast meaning no interesting rewards just loooong boring waste of TIME
i didn’t like that blizzard even tho there was lot of feedback didn’t change much from BFA in terms of class design
and i still don’t like that blizzard is sticking to esport CD oriented gameplay
I don’t like that they removed bonus rolls
And there is so much more but i don’t want to go into it
cause like we all know this expansion is big fail

WotLK: Argent Tournament
Cata: parts of the world revamp, death of Cairne
MoP: some of the dungeons, questing was annoying at times
WoD: Garrison and lack of other things to do, selfie camera
Legion: too much grinds: AP / legendaries / artifacts / paragons
BFA: forced reputations for allied races, pathfinder
SL: stupid story, boring grinds, uninteresting in general

I don’t like Legion for including borrowed power and having such a great expansion in terms of content age like bread. All expansions with borrowed power age about as well as milk out in the sun. I personally didn’t play Legion’s endgame, I came back to WoW when BFA preorders were active. However, I simply hate it, despite having great content. It also introduced M+ which is… ugh. Overall, it had Diablo 3-esque direction for the game, and as someone who hates Diablo 3, you can see the problems I have.

I hate BFA for being too boring across all boards.

I hate Wrath for setting the game on its downward slope with “QoL”, convenience, dungeon finders, and all that. That expansion is awesome, it’s my favorite, but I also hate it for being what set WoW’s downward spiral in motion.

I LOVE Cataclysm for not including borrowed power, even if Blizzard were toying with the idea during that expansion’s development.

I LOVE WoD. I didn’t play it when it was active, but right now, it’s content is some of my favorite in WoW. Some of WoD’s dungeons were bad, but the open world questing is the best in WoW, the story is actually solid and connects well to all of WoW, the graphics and art direction are the best, better than even Legion. I hate the fact that it has such an awful legacy, and I understand it’s probably deserved.

  • Vanilla: Didn’t like Ice Cream.
  • Burning Crusade: Was still lvling my first character back in the day.
  • Wrath: Argent Tournament dungeon and Raid, some epic speech but it just became boring listening to the same long rp every time and boring boss fights.
  • Cataclysm: Didn’t like the Dragon Soul raid because of long rp and reused content.
  • Mop: Nothing bad really except that i forgot to complete the challenge dungeons.
  • WOD: Only 1 major patch, lots of scrapped content.
  • Legion: Endless grind for Artifact power
  • BFA same chore again and main story got bad
  • Shadowlands: Many things locked behind systems and another chore grind.

So all expansion do have something great in them imo: Most of the zones are nice and the zone story/zone quests. Lots of great dungeons and raids. Soundtrack nice and Art design nice. Etc…

In TBC I hate the questing as it’s all over the place, and too many side quests involving stuff I couldn’t care less about like the Ethereals or Sporeggar. Also Nagrand, I hate Nagrand with its only one flight master, huge distances and Hemet Nesingwary who has some of the most annoying quests in the game.

Regarding WotLK, it has too many zombies who look way too similar, and too much snow. I also find most stuff there boring like Vrykul, Tuskarr, Wolvars etc. And the zones are too big for my taste.

In Cata, it’s probably Thrall, just a boring creator’s pet that I have to see more than I’m willing to.

MoP I’m just not a fan of its theme. Just seems out of place and boring if you don’t like Pandaren.

If there’s anything I don’t like about WoD it’s the cut and removed stuff, like no Farahlon or Zangar sea zones, and the removal of the legendary quest chain. Also despite the improvements I still don’t like Nagrand.

In Legion I don’t like Highmountain. Snow + boring Tauren is an awful combo for me.

As for BfA I don’t really like the theme of Orcs Trolls & Humans, and it seems to contain a lot of one off characters that try to look important but are pretty forgettable, making the story lackluster. Also it seems to branch into other stories too much like Nazjatar and The Black Empire which makes the original theme seem moot. And this is when I started hating Sylvanas for her plot armor.

SL I only like about half the zones, and there are more forgettable characters, I don’t even know who most of the soulbinds are. Also still had to deal with Sylvanas plot armor until her defeat.

Wasn’t Slice and Dice an Outlaw ability in BfA? Can’t remember what rogues were like back then.
