What do you think about corrupted gear?

Let’s talk a bit about corrupted gear.

For me, i have a few problems with this.

1: it does not solve the problem about gear rng, what would have solved the problem would have been to allow us to upgrade our gear up to the max lvl of titanforging, this way you could have kept titanforging, and also added this new system.

I also think that tertiary stats and sockets should become a thing that can be added through professions, tertiary stat for inscription, and sockets for blacksmith, this way you would automatically make professions more useful.

You would still have the luck part but you don’t have to pray to the rng gods to get something god.

2: it has unwanted side effects, this is something i do not like at all personally.

I do not want gear that has unwanted side effects coming with it, it’s not something i like at all, when i get a food piece of gear, i don’t want to think about the possible drawbacks that come from equipping that gear, i know it’s fitting for the expansion, but it’s just not for me.

Instead, you could take the effects on gear, expand on them, and make them as enchants, just an idea.

Professions right now just lack usefulness, think of something, but this could be a start.

I also thought about a new enchanting system that requires more reagents, but when you swap gear you do not have to re enchant it, so you would give players the choice of spending more for a longer lasting effect until you replace it with another enchant, or pay less, but the enchant is on the gear, just like how it is currently. Think of it, as, you enchant your body rather than your gear, but you require more reagents.

Overall, i think corruption is no better than titanforging as of right now, but there are some cool ideas behind it.

Discuss.

I think that in a simple search you can see this has been discussed in other threads.

Here’s one :+1:

I think that 125-135 free corruption before first négative effects (as Maxed cloack) with tons of Corruption effect will be pretty hilarious, power creep as you never seen !

If I say what i think of corrupted gear, I’ll get forum vacation.

Positive and negative.

  • We can near unanimously agree that the RNG associated with it sucks - there’s simply far too many layers to it.
    • Firstly, you need to hope the item you want drops.
    • Then you need to hope that it corrupts.
    • Additionally, you need it to corrupt with the correct trait.
    • Finally, you need the perk to roll at tier-3 so it’s as strong as possible.
    • [optional 5th for Mythic raiders] You need to hope that it’s determined to be best for you, and not a bigger upgrade for someone else

That’s a minimum of four levels of RNG. Despite it being the supposed replacement of WF/TF, the level of RNG shown by this system is a clear indication that Blizzard wants gear to continue being RNG-heavy to boost “engagement” (i.e. keep some people endlessly farming), and that is a damning statement for so many players.

  • The balance of them looks absolutely miserable. PTR indications are showing that the top-performing corruption is approximately 4-times superior to the second best.

  • The traits are incredible sterile - “get more stats”, “hit harder”, “chance on hit to do damage”, nothing class specific or transformative in any way, shape or form. I believe this to be by design; it’s confirmed to be a temporary system, so Blizzard didn’t want to add traits that players could miss when removed for gameplay-altering reasons.

But I like the concept of pros-and-cons system. MMOs and RPGs are built on a system of player choice, and gear having perks-and-quirks will mean that gearing isn’t simply “put your character string into simming software, equip the best one”, but will now need player intervention on if you afford to bear the dynamic, scaling downsides that might come with your best item.

I like that you can cleanse an item if you do not want, or cannot afford, to deal with downsides.

It’s also a unique way to soft-nerf content as the patch goes on, because as we amass more corruption resistance over time we will be able to equip more corrupted items and improve character strength.

Here’s what i think about it.

1- Better than titanforge/warforge

2- Temporary, so it’ll be gone soon anyways.

And that’s pretty much it. As long as they don’t replace it with something absurd next expansion, It’s fine. It’s a bit of a twist in gearing. Now you get to choose if you want to keep the bonus or don’t keep it. and it’ll always be a limited use of corruption from now on.

So i guess, it could have been a major win with just a simple titanforge removal, but now it’s just a small win for now.

Just another RNG system that makes us grind our butts off for it. Hard pass from me. Shadowlands better remove all these pointlessly complicated gearing methods.

i think there could be very easy solve for corruption problems

make corruption lowering buff account wide.

this would instantly eliminate all problems it brings on alts and makes cloak farm much easier .

good in a sense of not increasing ilvl.
bad in a sense of the heavy rng around it like previous system.

i’m not interested in that system, we ask them to lower rng into the games and they replace them with another rng system that require a brainless grind to get less negativity on said item…

if shadowland look like the same brainless grind(anima system and covenent system) this won’t go well.

because they cater so much about how much time people should log on, then why people want to stay log on.

torgast is a good idea, all i hope is the games don’t turn into a single player games by exporting this idea everywhere!

they should cater more about the journey then the destination. from classic to mop everything was about the journey and not the end of the road. now is everything to get into the end road has quickly possible and nothing else matters.

In classic blizz fashion lately, cool idea, bad execution.

This is literally the third completely different system this expansion with the same exact perks, why even bother re-designing these new systems when they’re just gonna put the same stuff in them? Would be better if they narrowed it down to only the interesting perks, no one is excited about gaining 4% haste or mastery for 4 seconds. Getting small bonuses like that that last a short amount of time are the kinda thing that makes your class feel slightly more cumbersome whenever it’s not up.

Havent even thought about this bs. Oh god.

I can’t wait to see how huge the overall dps difference will be between specs that scale extremely good with secondary stats and those who do not.

I hate it.

It ruins loot for me, period. It turns loot into a punishment and I’ll explain why:

I don’t want negatives on my gear. I hate that. Gear drops are supposed to be a reward; since when is something negative a reward?

As for gaining corruption resistance; ok, so I have to work to get rid of something negative so I can enjoy it? Does that sound fun? Does that sound like something a game should do? No! It sounds like something a megalomanic dictator would come up with to ‘help’ his citizens (“hey, I’m going to kill your family, but you can work in my mines and then they’ll be fine, kk?”).

Yes, I can cleanse the gear, but then the experience of first getting the corrupted loot is already a bad experience and then on top of that, I have to do extra work to get rid of that negative. In other words: I’m being punished for getting loot.

I absolutely hate all of this system and hope we will never again see anything like it. If Shadowlands has this kind of mechanic; I’m out.

Honestly ready to be benched cause i didn’t get any crit dam corrupts before mythic opens, like honestly, they said they wanted to make it more rare than TF, then they added too many corruption effects and made them mean way more.
like ffs crit dam tier 3 is worth 90 ilvl on fire mage on ptr, which is way more than TF could ever be, so it’s really bad.
It’s just gonna make the RNG outweigh skill way more apparent than it already is, especially early.

It’s another unnecessarily convoluted system for gearing, let’s be honest.

Armour should also be rewarding to wear, but now gear comes with drawbacks that punish us.

It’s a very cool system for players like me who love to tinker about.

Many players just follow strict guides/addons/simulations to min-max and call it a day, but then there are players like me who love to try new builds, stuff and do things with them.

This is the essence of an rpg game, the Azerite system albeit isn’t the best actually did this thing quite well, and to be honest I do not wish to see it gone, rather I’d like to see it polished.

Now back to corruption, people are hating on it because it has negative effects, but… you can just cleanse and be done with it, you’re not going to be doing top-tier dps anyway, nor does the content you want to play at requires you to.

The tinkering that can be done with corruption is looking fantastic, I actually want blizzard to put more effects.

I don’t know if you can stack multiple same type corruptions or not but I do hope that you can.

The more customization we get the better, to hell with the there will always be a BiS build, One of the things done right by BFA is the ability to try out a lot of different builds, be it revenge build warrior, overpower build, warbreaker build ToM build, haste build, Execute build, Cleave / ToM buid, no cd MS build, snake eyes rogue build, deadshot build, BTE build.

Corruption would enable even more crazier builds, and so I am looking forward to it.

I managed to get my executes to hit 160k, as an arms warrior. That felt super satisfying, now I wanna make them hit for 250-300k with the upcoming patch, also got an idea for some cool memebuild warbreaker.

Sounds overly complicated stuff to me

I miss when gear was just gear with sockets and enchants and i dislike the overly complicated RNG bs systems that blizzard adds only to be removed after the expansion is over.

I think the corruption system is quite interesting too, in fact it’s the first time I have read something regarding BfA that made me want to learn more about.

In fact it sparked my interest to an extend where I actually was thinking about class combinations/possibilities for a bit and that also has never happened so far for this addon (also rarely happened in Legion).

On top of that it seems pretty unbalanced and in my mind that’s good as well, Blizzard has been trying to balance the game to a point where it became awfully boring and it will end up happening to this system as well no doubt but maybe for a week or two people like get to enjoy the ****show.

especially from a PvP POV this system sounds really interesting/fun and even if it turns out to be trash, the fact that it got me excited speaks for itself.

dont worry - once you reliase that you cannot even use this gear without weeks/months of farm of cloak currency your hype will die down

also - lol at healers - you guys are so screwed this patch :joy:

Not to mention it can have a variety of corruption effects on it, no doubt hunting for the right one is another RNG fest.
