You’re right that plenty of people would play regardless in the hope that it might really be permanent… I just feel it sad that Blizz would prey on people like that for the short term if the internal plans really are that TBC will only be temporary - though it is absolutely a reality of life and marketing.
Not sure I agree on the uncertainty necessarily “encouraging” people, rather that it wouldn’t stop them from hoping - whether or not that’s the same thing is down to interpretation.
In either case, there is vagueness in the announcement (and a hint to some possibility that it might change based on feedback) so the best that those of us who want TBC Era can do is post our feedback.
Implying Blizz even reads the EU forums anyway…

My gut feeling is that it will run for 12 months, and then there will be a forced upgrade to WotLK - you’ll get another 12 months and then be forced to “upgrade” to Crapaclysm.
After that I dunno. They’ll either reset the clock, starting again from Vanilla and you’ll just lose all your progress or they’ll go the way of Era and just keep on running through the expansions until they get to “Fresh The War Within” or whatever it is by then.
I hope I’m wrong, would be nice to think that this might pave the way for static TBC or Wrath-era realms, but Blizzard have proved time and time again that they have little or no interest in what their players want.

I honestly just want to be able to start in classic era and roll through the expansions at my own pace. That you have to wait for fresh starts seems weird to me, and I hope it will continue to MoP+ but I see no reason why we can’t have TBC or WotLK era servers either.
I don’t know what they’ll do, but given fresh progressive servers is something I thought they’d never do, I might be pleasantly surprised.
No mention of anything TBC related in the recent announcement. The wording suggests they saw it but it appears they’ve chosen to not address the topic this time around. Not a fan of the uncertainty, I don’t want to play something that will be tossed away into WotLK eventually but don’t want to continue leveling Classic Era in case they do change it and I have to level all over again immediately. I guess I’ll just make my chars in fresh and take a break until more info comes out
