Just back to basic stories and adventuring. Sadly not possible unless we do 'we found another landmass 5000 miles that side of kalimdor" but I liked the simplicity of dragonflights opening. Just going in, seeing the nice side stories and almost back to basics stuff. Yeah there were titan stuff involved but it wasn’t exploding in your face all the time.
And I like that. Don’t really feel the void/titan/cosmic stuff honestly. I just don’t feel those sorts of stories are blizzards strengths. Basic, simply but engaging side stories with a broad overall plot vaguely connecting them seems to be.
I don’t understand this sentiment, the games far too old and too far along progression wise for them to just delegate our characters back to mere adventurers, the only way this would happen is a sequel or a revamp where everyones current character dies and starts afresh as a “new” adventurer, but I feel thats too big a risk as Blizz would lose players en mass.
The only other way is alternate dimensions but yeah no one would like that because the outcome would become the same.
True in a way, but… They could simply ease off on the ‘you’re the chosen one’ stuff. For me personally that’d be enough; just don’t make us leaders or the chosen one from here on out.
Or hey… Maybe we could get disgraced for some reason and lose our standing as THE hero of the horde/alliance.
That way we could keep our character, but have sort of a ‘standing’ reset.
I couldn’t see this working on numerous levels sadly, once disgraced how would you become trusted by anyone to do any work with them?
Also I havent heard the chosen one stuff before, only Champion, because we have been proven as Champions and in WoW story there’s only 1 player character.
I understand what you mean, but it seems like abit too much work after how much time has been invested into making our character heroes only for them to be debunked and then no more hero stories just random adventures? sounds boring if im honest.
Its just for max level characters to experience a level 15 zone for example. Its an option for current players that are max level to go and experience the new versions of the zones without one shoting everything. While your idea does sound more involved and interesting than simply scalling it does remove the option of one shoting for players who are simply after new mogs from quest rewards, seeing the story without getting too involved with the questing. Like I said I’m not a fan of scaling but sometimes it does give way to player choice, and i thonk that we have had enought of “my way or the highway” approach.
However it would be cool if in the level8ng zones we had max level quests. I think it would be cool for a new player to see a huge elemental with a skull in one of the early level zones (maybe even die to it a few times), only for them to return to that zone at max level and finaly kill it.
No no; of course there’d be hero stories.
However, we wouldn’t be THE BIG HERO anymore. We’d just be ‘skilled adventurers’ who join the big heroes (well known and new NPCs).
I don’t think the change would be that big actually; it’s just a bit of a flavour change more than anything else.
I know I wouldnt mind a WoW 2 tbh new engine new opportunities, I think it would be fantastic but its to big of an initial investment for Blizz to do, they’re only used to taking money not spending it anymore.
I don’t think so.
We were the Earth-Titan’s one and only chosen hero.
That’s the biggest role we’ve been given, alongside the BS Legion “being the leader of your class” stuff you just mentioned.
I think we’re due a foray off world. There’s an entire dimension ruled by the Void Lords, maybe it’s time we did something to permanently seal it off from reality. Sure would be handy to not have future Old Gods to worry about dropping from out of space.
Anyway, I would love to go back to a more simple role for the player character.
We can still be acclaimed heroes and not be in charge of armies and such.
In that regard DF is doing a fair job of that.
Sadly this is because we are reactionary heroes, we only react to current threats we don’t seem to make the journey to war for the greater good because we dont have that ability to think for ourselves, it’s always someone attacks and we call to arms to investigate and destroy the threat.
I mean to be fair we have gone places that weren’t immediately posing a threat to the world. Pandaria comes to mind. Of course once we arrived, we just so happened to unleash the Sha and create the threat we then had to subdue again.
