What happens if you got mail and die?

Does the mail get returned to the sender immediately, after 30 days? Does it get destroyed? Does it matter if I reroll the character?

Blizzard said they fixed the mail issue, but I am not in the mood to test how.

Not sure what you mean by fixed it? I’m not planning on transferring, I just reroll no biggie, but I want my stuff back that I send to that char, but never picked up.

If you delete and start with the same name you lose all the mail.

You need to wait 30 days.

OR, try this

I don’t know if it will work or not.

Hmm, some said I could delete and make a new with the same name, and you say I can’t. I dont know who to belive since the server isn’t 30 days old yet, so noone has tried it. IT’s not a huge deal though, just about 10-15 stacks for peacebloom, silverleaf, earthroot and a bti of mageweave. But it was going to kickstart the alchemy on that char.

You can bypass this issue by not dying in the first place

You can do that but you will lose all the mail. Did you try the link?

When I play I’m careful so I haven’t died. Some are playing like it’s Era and take stupid risks.

Its exactly like it was before. Mails get deleted if not claimed in 30 days, no matter if you reroll the character, etc. So yes, they get destroyed after 30 days.

Never Mails are returned to the sender, unless you explicitly press Return when you read an email with an attachment.

That is not how it works on neither Era or classic wotlk. If they mail is not picked up it WILL return to the sender after 30 days. I know I have made it do so, many times. It’s a 60 days storage for 30c.

Mail will remain in your mailbox for 30 days. After 30 days, the mail is deleted and any items or gold attached to the mail is lost.

It doesn’t say anything about returning to the sender. And the article was updated 4 weeks ago.

Maybe someone can test this and … we will know?

Hm! It seems you can recover any Mails sent if they weren’t opened.

This is not in-line with HC “rules” and people will take advantage of this option with death characters.

I have sent 2 Mails to one of my chars who … died and I didn’t opened them. Now I see I can retrieve them no problem!

Point me to the “rule” that covers un-opened mails and dead characters.

Hence the “” .

But I will point you to the fact that “when your char dies, you can’t use Mail, retrieve ,etc”.

…but you can, if its unopened. So you can send a bunch of Mails to one char and only open them when you really need it. If it dies in the meantime, no problem, use Mail Recovery and get the Mails back.

Now you see the “problem”?

Except it doesn’t work like that. After 30 days mail is returned to the sender, if they don’t retrieve then it’s deleted.

From what I know, mail from other characters (if not deleted/transferred) gets returned to sender. Mail from AH and deleted/transferred characters is destroyed. But this is on normal era.

However I don’t know how the solved the mail problem. Is the mail deleted upon death or upon deleting?

Does the ghost still have the pending mail icon? If so, chances are the mail is still pending and will be returned after 30 days.

Only one way to be sure though is to wait.

You can also open it and it will still be returned to sender after 30 days. The only thing is you can’t retrieve it, aka take it out of the mail and into your inventory, because then it’s no longer mail. You can open it to get rid of the pending mail icon, and it will still be returned if you don’t retrieve it. But this is on Era and Classic, I do not know if they changed it for classic HC.

Edit. This is why I’m hesitant to delete that char, because on normal servers you can not delete your char if you have mail. In HC you can. So it might have been changed and the mail is deleted when you die.

And you can take out one item, rest will return.

auction house stuff gets immediatly deleted so I assume mails too. On deathclips you always see the “auction xyz is expired” upon their deaths.

Anyone who doesn’t use a bank/storage character is just asking for trouble.

So it’s better the bank alt always open the mail and take the items?
