Lets say another version separated from the main game as an experiment or permanent. Maybe UI addons would be allowed, so the game doesnt look so ugly. Would you play it? im personally annoyed by the amount of addons I need to play efficiently. I think it would open better pve content development and made pvp interesting, because ppl couldnt see cds and track every second of your every step.
then you would really see how bad the devs are
i mean the whole ui, visibility of abilities etc. is just so bad that they outsource the programming for free
we could argue that the devs aren’t bad at programming, but look at how they implemented the new ui and how trash it was compared to 15 year old addons lol
Yea, the blizzard ui was a huge flop since its beginning. I spent a week remaking UIs on my chars just to get rid of it the next week, because it just didnt have half of bartender options. Thats why I added the mention of possibly having UI addons since blizzard would never deliver a good experience in this matter. I also remember, how I tried to reuse it multiple times, but I could never figure out, how to stop the party/raid frames from disappearing in various situations. It kinda sucked for healer, ngl. But tell me, what part of blizzard released content in the past few years wasnt rushed, half *** done and ppl spent few months of subs waiting for it to get fixed? I dont think its an incompetence of the devs. I think they just dont have enough ppl for it, because everybody with any sort of self-preservation instinct left the company. And of course lacking experienced staff prolongs the process as well. Lets face it, the entire company and all their franchises are in shambles.
the issue is at its current version wow is literally unplayable in high content without weakauras and dbm because they make red circles on red ground and stuff like that
No, it’s awful playing without addons.
Well, ofc the current version of wow would feel a bit rough, but at least we could see, if ppl are enjoying no spreadsheet uis and are willing to give up addons. Ok, maybe ppl would do only +25 mythics instead of +30, but I think it would still feel more satisfying and skillfull. Same with raiding, but I agree that raiding should be toned down with its mechanics, if addons didnt exist. And maybe in the future, this could be removed completely. At the moment, the content is developed with addons in mind. It would be different, if addons didnt exist.
Its mainly because everybody has it. If nobody had addons, ppl with skills would rise up. Gameplay, immersion and satisfaction from beating content would be better imo.
Without being able to track some spec resources and buffs with weak aura’s, or without clique for mouseover macro’s and something like elvui i am not going to heal, or play at all.
Isn’t this exactly what is shut down already in Warlords of Draenor?
don’t know, didnt play wod at that time
games need to find the sweat spot between very telegraphed things like one shots with red very clear circles or whatever and other mechanics that can be seen by boss behavior or cast bar that does not one tap you.
but the whole boss/dungeon need to be designed around this. if they forgot something (and they will) it will just spell disaster
The default UI and how customizable it is currently is still one of the best UI menus I’ve seen of any game out there. WoW has a phenomenal default UI, which seems to get improved every patch.
The bad things that this UI can’t deal with is the insane seasonal complexity of the game, where people need weakauras, littlewigs, etc to see what’s going on. The thing that wow really sucks at is readability and this is solved for hardcore players by turning their screen into a racecar UI full of squares
Modern WoW cannot function without certain addons. Especially at the endgame.
Imagine trying to improve for the endgame without a damage/healing meter to tell who is doing a good job and who is underperforming or even slacking.
They would need to overhaul the entire game around the assumption that addons are not to be used like in FF14
Why random ppl can do it for free within minutes or hours and blizzard as a massive corporation with billions of dollars and decades of experience can not?
But my point was that if these addons werent available, the insane complexity could be tuned down, so a human can actually play around it instead of addons doing it for them. Which I think would be healthy for the game for both stable and new players.
This is a noble ideal.
But in reality, Blizzard loves to cut corners and is happy that unpaid fans get to complete the holes in their game for them.
Just think of how long it took them just to figure out how to pull the ripcord in Shadowlands.
Now imagine if they had to make and maintain their in house version of a meter and Bigwigs.
Aye, it would’ve been fine tbh during MoP and pre-MoP - now it’s a bit too much. Although, I didnt use WA’s until end of Tomb of Sargeras.
I really feel that Legion crossed some gameplay line that made more addons a lot more important than before.
I wonder if I can blame it on M+ and the Mage tower.
Sure, but I only got WA’s because I was gonna start raiding Heroic in a guild, if it wasnt for that, I may not have started to use it to begin with. And only because the AddOn I used previously - Debuff Filter - was no longer getting updated.
Just think of how long it took them just to figure out how to pull the ripcord in Shadowlands.
Ironic, isnt it?
They make an expansion all about death, but they couldn’t pull the cord on it to let it die. ![]()
Actually a ripcord is the thing you pull do deploy a parachute so you do not go splat on the ground. They did the looney tunes thing of pulling it after they made a crater on the ground.
Oh, I took it as ‘‘pull the plug’’. xD
Me too, but then I found out it was a sky diving term
…That’s one way to ‘‘pull your plug’’, I guess…
