What if there was a version of wow, where you cant use addons?

When i pvp I have so many debuffs I have to question if there is anyone that takes the time to know them all!
I think is impossible to display so much information, that is why things got to the point i feel like a stock trader doing pvp.
You either simplify classes or remove addons and players just have to accept that they are not allow to know what button did you press back in march 8 2017 at 17.53.03 pm pacific time.

WoW is so out of date that without addons it will lose most of its current player base and I doubt those who stay and the new players will make it profitable enough to not be P2W.

People could do the same without addons but it would be a miserable experience for everyone involved.

I also wish people would appreciate how hard it is to design a UI that works for millions of people. Ergonomics and interface design are complete faculties at universities. It’s one of those things that seems simple but really isn’t.
And for a game like WoW, there’s no way in hell blizz could give me the same experience as my custom UI and weakauras.

They don’t need to do this, they could just introduce a server where addons cannot be used. This would be a less costly option but I doubt any new servers will ever exist for retail.

I would but I would be in the minority because addons have been the done thing forever, people love the feeling of having their hands held.

It would probably push for much better encounter telegraphing/warning design but probably not much further than that.

Or just do it better.
Allow DBM and “combat helper” addons in casual content (let’s say…LFR, Normal raid and keys between 2-9), and remove it from there on (you can still keep your UI add-on and handy notes, but remove any WA that helps in combat, any sort of DBM, little wings, timers for boss abilities, etc).
And there, you’ll see a lot of “wanna be average/pro players” that will eventually give up, realizing that is not them that are playing, but it’s the addons. They do like they are playing “Simon says” right now, and thinking :“Oh, I’m good. I can listen to an audio alert, and do exactly what it says. Same as the monkey in Alladin”

I am still wondering where those addons are that exactly tell you what you have to do. I only know of addons that basically give timers of abilities, and on that time maybe something on voice like “beware”.

DBM literally has sounds for abilities (DODGE, Dance, defensive, etc).

WAs can be customized to make an incredible annoying sound when you are targeted by an ability, you have an important interrupt, etc.

I was watching earlier a friend on discord. His combination of WAs and DBM was telling him exactly what to do. He even had text on his screen DODGE, GO BACK, FRONTAL etc.

Is that for raid or something? I have dbm and i just get “behave” on voice. And timers. That is basically it.

It was in a freehold when I watched him, DBM same as WA can be customized. And WA actually can take elements from DBM (Timers and everything). So he might’ve customized it.
For example the only WA I actually use is the WA that tells me when I am targeted by an ability. As default UI only shows the cast, doesn’t show who it targets (and if there are 8-9 mobs…) it is pretty useful. I also have little wings installed, but I successfully manage to ignore it.

Littlewings and big wings even tell you when the mobs have buffs, debuffs that can be purged, stolen, etc.
I have placed my timers in a corner (too lazy to actually disable them), and never watch them.

My dbm isn’t doing that for sure. I just get the name of the ability that is happening, and that’s it.

I’ve never used these kind of WA’s, and I’m never going to - sounds annoying as hell.

I’ve played on and off since 2011 and installed TomTom just in the last month, my first addon. But, while I don’t do high-end stuff, I did do all the Wrath heroic dungeons back in the day, when addons weren’t so mandatory as most ppl think they are now.

OTOH, that’s just my preference and I wouldn’t want to change the way the game is currently just because of the way that I like to play.

You didn’t even need it in MoP - it was in WoD where it kinda started, but even then it wasn’t necessary (unless high end raiding, I guess). I didn’t start using WeakAuras until Legion - and I only started with it because the addon I used before stopped being updated.

It’d be playable to a point, no trouble. That said, getting into the serious M+ or raiding scene would probably suck harder than a black hole through a straw.

Well a version of wow, that actualy works - would be better…

A lot of people are saying they can’t play without addons, and that seems really excessive to me.

Personally I’m used to Bartender now because it lets me display bars without the massive Blizzard decorations, allows fading effects, or things that are not yet possible with the new UI.

But anything related to gameplay, like DBM or weak auras, etc I don’t understand. I’ve been playing without those for 20 years just fine. You don’t NEED them, you’re just used to them.

Honestly - I’m so used to having it now, but I also use it so I can have my action bars hidden and make my screen look ‘‘cleaner’’. I can very much play without it if I wanted to - I also use ElvUI, so I can move everything around.

If by decorations you mean the gryphon/wyvern statues at either side of the bars, those can be removed without the use of addons. Just a FYI to anyone not using a UI addon.
