In my guild back in Vanilla we had a subforum on the guild website, where anyone with max level professions would make a post about which items they can craft. No trainer recipes, only stuff that comes from vendors, quests, etc. Emphasis on endgame gear, and particularly useful items for levelling.
Each item was linked to the thottbot recipe so people could see the mats.

I think that it should be possible to replicate retail functionality to browse other people’s professions with everyone installing some kind of addon. Though I did not try to find such an addon yet.
