How far will World of Warcraft expansion go as “Classic” and at what point will it stop? I wouldn’t want to play all of its expansions. I would prefer that you designate a World of Warcraft expansion as a “Classic” expansion so that I can judge whether to deal with the “Classic” re-release. I don’t like that all extensions are called “Classic” because they are not! Classic expansion I can say it’s Cataclysm but I can’t say it’s Legion! As I didn’t play Mists of Pandaria at all and wouldn’t want to play with the “Classic-Mists of Pandaria” expansion…
No one can say for sure, I did predict they would continue towards Cataclysm though.
Honestly, if there’s an “era” pirate server out there, you can bet that Blizzard wants a Classic progression realm in here too about that. We may even go up to Shadowlands Classic I joked but then I about it and it may be real even.
Classic ends with WOTLK because that’s where the original story and world end.
Anything after WOTLK is just fan fiction.
I don’t even like WOTLK (or TBC), but I still consider them “classic WOW lore”.
And I would, because today’s retail is far away from MoP. I want to play challenge mode on all classes and to beat SoO again.
World and original story ended in 2006. Anything beyond that is fan fiction about players being able to defeat Illidan, Arthas and Deathwing and grinding those characters to purple and orange pixels.
They aren’t called the same. They are Classic ERA (same as Vanilla, well nearly), Classic WotLK, Classic HC(Hardcore (One life only) but same as ERA otherwise) and Classic SoD (A temporary Classic Era+).
Only Classic WotLK will advance.
Rather than saying what you don’t want to play how about saying what you do want to play and we can go from there.
Deathwing literally predates the creation of Arthas and WC3 and most of the story hooks predate wow vanilla. Just cause you are not able to consume Story that isn’t narrated amd spoon feed directly into your mouth aka having to read books, doesn’t mean the story doesn’t exist.
bump for logs
Sorry I cba, Arthas was THE villain of the warcraft universe, if they wanted a different one they could have introduced them at any point in a comparable way, however after WOTLK it was just expansion after expansion of “Look it’s a new big bad guy and he’s gonna destroy the world!!!1” and then in the final patch “hooray you have saved the word!!!1 you are the hero of Azeroth whose name I shall never speak and only call them the hero!”.
I’m sure grey nipple man was suuuuuper interesting if you just read 7 books about his background story and 5 books about his intentions and motivations.
Do you mean introduce them in a whole RTS game ?
Or like Arthas was introduced in woltk like a cartoon villain who appears durring the quests , taunts you, tells of his Plan while you fight his minion X, and once you kill X , he runs away and tells you he will get you next time ?
Both options seem kinda unreasonable.
After woltk expansions actually got meet to them lore wise.
Classic was a mess but it was okay
TBC butcherd famous lore characters for the rule of cool. You can’t find anyone who will tell you Illidan was well written in there
Woltk was riding the Rts hype with little lore building
Cata was reusing a lot of book lore and just expanded on that
Mop was when blizzard started to actually introduce new lore that was fleshed out without any build up needed from some 10 year old game.
The Jailer was failure lore wise, you will find no one arguing that. But I think blizzard did a really good job when in 20 years of wow , your best shot of an argument, is the one everyone agrees, while at the same time admiting that you just can’t make any other arguments since you lack 90% of knowlsge of the wow universe.
You joke about books being needed while books are the only way Blizzard was able to Safe the woltk and tbc lore. The books Illidan and Arthas returned beloved characters from cartoon loot piñatas back to well written characters.
If you don’t care for wow lore, don’t use it as an argument against something. It’s okay to like something for nostalgia reasons, you don’t need to make up an argument to fish for upvotes of other nostalgic people
same, but it will get there.
what each of us, who likes one of the 3 Classic stories: Vanilla TBC or Lich, needs is at least a single permanent normal pve Era server for each of the Classic games.
All 3 Classic games should have at least one permanent PvE server and the fact that TBC was rushed and then replaced by WoTLK completely speaks volumes on how narrow minded their focus group for questioners is.
I have some wotlk chars - and i dont want to move them to Cataclysm. Of course, nobody will ask what I want it seems.
They know better
I believe we have waited enough time for Blizzard to make money on retail players who wanted to ride a Ragnaros ( “taxing” them is just right thing to do, Blizz did nothing wrong on that account ) so now we can say it openly Cata is not Classic and should never happen.
in my opinion Classic end with wotlk
Cata is not Classic anymore, sure if you see the game play Cata is close in his mechanics but the storyline and new world suggest just one thing, the old world of Azeroth is gone
