What is this random bird chirp sound?

For the last couple days I’ve been hearing an odd bird chirping sound in-game, pretty similar to the sound Pepe makes.
It happens at random and it happens everywhere. At first I thought I was going crazy but then I saw a number of people confirming to have heard this too. Some have said it has something to do with the soulshape ability, however that’s wrong since I’ve heard it in places where there’s noone around, and my covenant is Venthyr. So no soulshape.
Also when this sound occurs it’s louder than any other ingame sound and it doesn’t come from one specific direction. You can’t miss it.
What is going on? Is Blizzard trying to drive us insane? Has there been a mistake in the sound files?
Is it a bug?
Or is it a hint for an upcoming patch?
Have you heard it as well?

(EDIT: Let it also be noted that I have no addons downloaded in the game.)

Indeed, no clue what it is. Sounds like pepe. Always assumed it was someone else…

I never heard chirping sounds, perhaps you should see a doctor? Or perhaps you need to oil up your mousewheel

I’ve heard it too. Figured it was a bug, nothing else. Kinda like “the ice stone has melted” back in the day.

And here i thought i finally had lost it. Been playing alot of music and heard that bird alot.
First i thought that it was weird that so many songs for some reason had a bird sound in them, i even paused a few times but heard nothing. Kept on with the music and those darn bird sounds.
It’s been bugging me alot actually :laughing:

watching the arena matches the bird sound comes whenever someone activates Soulshape.
I dont know how long the range is for the sound.
So maybe someone far away from you activated it and you just couldn’t see them.

I listen to alot of audiobooks and audio dramas while playing and I just put it down to that lol, but yes, I’ve heard it maybe 4 times over the past 2 nights.

Probably a useful comment from the thread linked above: “Me and another player dillybar on my server figured it out; the timing for tuesday made me assume it had to do with the new renown level and the new soulbind. The soulbind that allows soulshape to give 10% movement speed to friends is what causes the sound effect.”

In maw also you hear footstep of NPC while no NPC near by.

I didn’t even think of anything odd until I saw this thread. I have been hearing that too. Now that it has been pointed out to me, I fear I will be noticing it more…

You have no idea how happy I am to see this thread…I thought I was finally starting to lose it!

Also watch the bird chip end up being an integrall part of some new wow secret for an exclusive bird mount or something…

Ive been hearing for the last few days when in the Heart of the Forest, was driving me nuts as I thought there was a hidden Pepe somewhere I couldnt see or target

I have heard it without Ardenweald covenant or being at ardenweald, probably a broken sound file.

That’s interesting. I have heard the sound in question aswell.

When I use soulshape myself (with the above mentioned soulbind) it plays a horn sound though that sounds very different.

Maybe the wrong sound is played for other players?

Heard it mainly in arena so far. We assumed it was some kind of toy.
