What is your opinion about the Void Elves ?

You don’t need to say it. We all know it  So, no advice from you? Ok, really usefull discussion.

Wow. You sure countered that argument perfectly. I am in awe.

I understand your hostility even if I think it’s misplaced, but really, there is no need to feel hurt.
I’ve been trying to be slow and patient with you, but if you’re not capable of killing your darlings and swallowing your ego, then you’re gonna end up sitting here years later wondering why you’re doing what you’re doing.
I personally, don’t make it hard for new people. I run the biggest guild on my server, I spend all my free time organising events and storylines for my friends, I help new players learn and integrate them, because I love my community, and I don’t think it’s a sin to be new and less skilled. I just see it as a growing pain everyone goes through; but you’re putting words in my mouth about elitism and how I’m attacking you when that is not the case.
I want to help you, and you’re going “Oh what advice? What advice?” When I’ve already gone and said it. You were told it’s unpleasant to power RP, and boring to rant about lore endlessly. Because it was critical of you, you’re now being openly hostile, and refusing to take incredibly light criticism. If anyone were trying to be mean to you we’d not be having this conversation, or attempting to reason with you

Anyway there is one thing you’re right about, there is a lot of advice that’s not being given. So I’m gonna write some more up to date RP guides over the next few weeks to try and contribute.

You are like mister Yoda. You are saying general things and riddles but you never tell a direct answer. What I learned from this discussion is:

  1. My ego is high
Although I haven’t started this discussion and I have never directly tell anybody that I don’t like his roleplaying. I just wanted to discuss and RP in this topic and look. Somebody joined and wrote a phrase that lead to this unpleasent hassle. Instead of ignoring this topic, that player needed to tell us, how bad we are to RP here… Why is that so?
  2. I am bad, nobody will like to RP with me. I am boring. I do common mistakes.
I would take your criticism if it was shown on an exact situation and supported with an exact advice. Saying something like: you should research lore isn’t really helpfull. It is like telling a lost man in a city that he should look in the map…
  3. I am hostile
Who wouldn’t be when you tell him that he sucks although he tries his best and you are only telling him general advices. Only elitists behave like this. It is like saying that you suck in m+ and you should go to wowhead and read the guides… Instead a sensitive and supportive player would tell directly “You should change swap this talent with this… Or you should take this pack…”

From my experience on RP forum. I always had fun. I hoped that Iam not alone, but from what you are saying it isn’t true. If you don’t want me here. I will not be here. Just say the word. But then ask yourself:

Do you think that I have the same feelings about you and Teríntha? Why don’t I have? And try to not answer with my ego

I think at this point it’s clear neither of you is going to listen to the other. Maybe drop it here?

Seems like a great idea. Let’s call for peace, can we?

I’ve been listening. I don’t have the time to give a proper response right now, but I will try to be more constructive in future.

Yeah man, it was never my intention to antagonise you, but when you’re talking about that advice, I’ll start giving specific advice and deliver it in an enjoyable format. I have my frustrations but I don’t get angry, just disappointed.

Do I still hate Void elfs.

Answer : Yes.

Reasons to many to count but to go into it a bit.

The race itself came from blood elfs who were already meant to be in the low pop then it was broken up from outland to some remaining as High Elfs with the alliance a group who refused the influences of fel magic.

Next thing out of the blue what happens Yet again the race gets broken up, Void elfs have just added to the list of what flavor Elf are you.

Helf - Belf - Velf - Felelf - Undead elf - half elf - wretched elf - Vampire elf.

And something tells me I am most likely forgetting about some others.

I mean we don’t even know what the story is on the numbers of them hardly enough for an allied race but yet here we are.

If we could go back I do think Helf would of being the better option but that’s a topic for a different tread and isn’t a reason to hate Void elfs.

I could go on about how its like there alliance now there horde now there alliance etc etc but yea I don’t like Void elfs.

Void elfs in short just turned the race as a whole into a joke.

There are spider elves too.
In Suramar. No idea what they’re called. But they’re a thing.

Edit: oh, and did we forget about nightborne?

Since I’ve had one of my characters give his opinion and this thread bounces back and forth between characters’ and players opinions anyway I might as well give my OOC opinion too.

I don’t particularly care about Elves of any kind and as someone above stated there are too damn many kinds of them at this point. The Void Elves are an interesting twist on the traditional Tolkien-esque Elf though. I dig the darker themes of them and I wish more players toyed with those without going full Edgelord. I mean, the life of a Void Elf must be full of fear and existential terror.

Terintha pretty much nailed it when she wrote that many players sadly don’t want to deal with the (negative) implications of picking a race like this.

(Yes, work is boring tonight)

“ That’s the thing, I do want to RP with you. But you are actively making it difficult by having your characters behave in a nonsensical manner, rant about lore we all know about already or Power RP displaying how “wonderful” your characters are.

What is the point of RPing if you are not interested in other characters? “

I don’t want to fight. I maked this topic with other purpose. In this Topic everyone can give his opinion as RP or only a simple answer. Please don’t fight or insult other players only because they have a different opinion .Please!

I may have misunderstood the original post. I thought the question was for the characters, not the players.

If my “inspired” post contributed to the wildfire (or even ignited it), I apologize. I answered the original post in character because I thought that was what the original post asked for.

If my in-character response was so erroneous lore-wise that it sparked this fire, I am truly sorry, and I’ll happily take advice on how to improve.

I saw mention of characters behaving nonsensically, and power-RPing how wonderful they are, and I guess I should re-evaluate my RP when I feel like that might be directed at me.

No friend. You don’t have reason to apologize. As OP started, you understood and responded to the topic in lines of his intention.
I personally liked your answer and it was fun to read
We don’t need to be the best RPs to have fun. And we shouldn’t care that we aren’t unless somebody gives us the concrete advice. Just because you don’t responded in a manner that somebody considers OK, isnt really reason for apologizing. Maybe these people should consider that we are more happy to being “stuck here”, because we really don’t have any guidelines how to be better.
Important is that it entertain us. And why should we care that it doesn’t entertain others, when they are unable to tell us what exact things we should do better?

Please show me where I insulted another player?

To get things back on track though, my opinion on void elves is slightly mixed, but goes towards the positive.

The negative side of them, is that they lack even basic lore about them. Most of what we use for RP about them is made up as be AD canon instead of actual WoW lore.
Like the whole “touching Lightforged burns them” thing which I vehemently disagree with. That’s made up. We can’t confirm it. It happened to a void user and a paladin, not a Lightforged and a void elf. We’re just presuming it would happen.

A lot of people also RP them completely wrong. They’re supposed to be an elite military unit. Why do I see so many of them that are just cute, nervous little girls that wouldn’t be able to hurt a fly?

The positive side of them, is that when they’re RPed well (as well as possible, thanks to Blizzard not giving them lore), they’re awesome.
The concept really is great, and is right up my alley due to my love of Lovecraftian, or in WoW terms, Void based themes.

I enjoy PRing void elves, playing around with how they would handle the whispers and how they’d be using the void, the non-casters are pretty interesting to play around with, with combat emotes, how they incorporate the void into their mostly physical based attacks.
Make a weapon’s blade void powered or spatial rift out of an incoming blow’s way, for example.

I’d like to clarify I wasn’t RPing I was speaking OOC.

Hello, just wanted to ask why do you think that they necceseraly need to be an elite force and rough fighters in order to be roleplayd well?
I thought that the reason why they became what they are is only an accident that happend because of them studying void force. I have found nowhere that only elite forces went with Umbric on this expedition.
Why there couldn’t be just nice girls and boys interested in void?
Feel free to correct me.

This is the point when the Lore it’s not enough. We have the opportunity to be creative .
To RP as Blood elf wich became Void elf … or a High elf wich became a Void elf. The Void elves have only struggles with the whispers - they have to be controlled… There is not a written rule to be cruel , evil or whatever…

I don’t see them as universally military either. Sure, my character is definitely in that direction, but remember that they started as basically a group of researchers. Bold enough to endure exile in order to pursue that research, and to believe they could handle the Void, and at least in Umbric’s case intending to use it for the defense of Quel’thalas, but ultimately closer to magisters than soldiers.

I do think a lot of people ignore the dark aspect of the race. Every time we hear Alleria talk about the Void, she reminds us that it’s a curse. She hears the whispers all the time. It’s made clear that the Void Elves do too. They’ve spent months learning to control themselves and their power, resist the voices of the Void that threaten to overwhelm them, and it’s still a constant burden. If you’re going for a kinder character, that’s great, but don’t forget what’s on her mind.

The Void Elves under Umbric are best described as a group of specialists.

Their numbers are few, even compared to the High Elves. The Ren’dorei lack the numbers to be an army of their own, or even form a people as we do not know whether they are all sterile.

But despite that, they are a group of highly experienced, highly motivated individuals with centuries or even millennia of magical experience and know-how under their belt, and each proven to possess a solid willpower as they have survived, and continue to survive, the whispers of the Void. While they lack the numbers to wage a war of their own, it likely that a Ren’dorei that entered the field would make their human or gnome mage colleagues look like mere novices by comparison. The downside is of course that while the Ren’Dorei provide a cadre of fantastically skilled, experienced and powerful magi and shadowcasters; every time one of them is killed it is an irreplaceable loss, and the Ren’Dorei are forever smaller.

I see the Ren’Dorei as a cabal of like-minded individuals combined in their purpose and curse. They lack a military hierarchy, where instead power radiates out from Umbric and his closest associates. While the expedition’s initial goal was research, I imagine every Ren’Dorei is very well aware of the military value of their powers and talents, and any magister that has survived this far is very, very familiar with war.

And, of course, being considered ‘traitors’ by our own side; we could never afford being idle in this conflict. Our own history is full of examples of what happens to traitors if their old side wins.
