What keeps you playing your main class/character?

Hello all,

I am curious what keeps you playing your main class or character (beside you already did everything on it and you feel bad to dump it, lol)? How do you keep yourself entertainmened? Do you have any plans to chage it for the next expansion and why?

Me personally stuck with class identity crize. I used to play shaman for a long time as my one and only character, and after I tried few other classes I started to see flaws and what I don’t like about it. So I am considering to change my main for the next expansion. I love to heal, but healing in retail is not that fun and it’s a bit different then in other games so I decided to go with pure DPS and keep Shaman as backup (alt) when I get bored to jump in to some casual normal/heroic dungeons or TW events/mog runs.

Since I suck as DPS (too casual to use full class/spec potential) I am planning to pick the class with pet for easy solo gameplay and lazy mode. So I am debating between Hunter (mostly BM and MM) and Warlock (Demo and Afflic). Both classes has pros and cons and I am not looking for the best class, just something to stack with it for a long time. Flaws that I see as Hunter are that I already have mail user, too many hunters and class has bad reputation(“huntards”). Flaws that I see as Warlock are low mobility, harder rotation, no instant spells (without CD like corruption, PW:Pain, Ice Lance, etc.) as Demo/Destro. What I like about Hunters are high mobility, heroism, pet collecting.
What I like about Warlocks are good survivability, SS, cookie and summons.

Both classes seem very strong. Warlock a bit better for group content and hunter for solo.

So since I am a bit struggling I wanted to hear other thoughts, maybe some information will be helpful, what people do to keep themselves entertainment with class and how they pick “the right one”? Do you change specs/classes a lot or you rather stay with the same one for a long time?

Thank you very much.

Not sure about demo but destro does have instant spells, one baseline and one talent.

However I’ve not seen the warlock talent tree so if they have removed them I will be MAD!!!

I like playing destro, find it comfortable for solo/outside world content. Affli is meh in my opinion and I’ve never actually tried demo for longer than a few levels.

You can always make a class trial of each and try them out for a bit and see which you enjoy playing more.

I didn’t play a lot of destro, mostly I play demo in dungs and affli for old content. I was think about instant cast spells withou CD like PW:Pain, corruption as affliction or ice lance as mage.

I already level them both.

What are you maining and what keeps you playing it?

Destro has corruption too, the two instant cast I mentioned have 2 casts each before cooldown and if you play your rotation right you can work them really well.

Destro lock main and I guess because its got enough power to solo a lot of open world content, certainly feels better than hunter but I also RP so it is my RP main too and “going slightly insane” warlock is fun to RP lol.

I played Hunter for 14 years, when dragonflight drops I’ll be dropping her to test Evoker, if I like it I will stick to it if not I will pick up my Hunter and Priest again.

Nothing really. I tend to cycle through every class equally… Except monk… never monk.

I have never played a hero class before, Dracthyr Evoker will be my first, Deathknights/Demon Hunter’s and Monks never interested me tbh.

I have a very low IQ.

I just rly like shadow priest aesthetic. No matter how many times i quit it to play another class i come back to it.

This is my 14th shadowpriest:person_shrugging::person_shrugging:

Even deleting the class to try and force myself to play something better looked after balance wise didnt work.

Cause i have played it for too many years with too many soulbound + character limited stuff on it.
Like some titles are not account wide etc.

It bothers me…
17 years of playing.
I am glad I picked druid tho since I can change between 4 different speccs.

Switching mains takes alot of uninteresting effort, Recently decided i was going to play frost DK and after 30 minutes I realised the obnoxious amounts of borrowed power I’d have to re-farm and just logged out. installed a new game instead.

I don’t really have one main - I have two that vary a bit in which one I focus on.

At the moment, it’s the druid. Other times, it’s the DH. The things they have in common are:

  • high mobility
  • melee dps spec
  • can tank

I play other classes and specs as well - I’ve played everything at max level at some point, except DK and shaman - but those are the two I keep coming back to.

Clown doesn’t have a main anymore. Haven’t for a few expansions.
Maybe I never had a real main.

However I love alting a few classes like Warrior, Hunter and Rouge.

Warrior because they’re angry and straight to the point. KILL or get killed.
Or more like, kill as many as you can before you inevitably die. /pvp

Hunter was made for Netflixers. I love how easy it is to get back into it.
And I love having a pet. Even more awesome in retail with 2 pets!

Rogue because they are dirty, sneaky cowardly tricksters.
I’m bad at Rogue, both in Retail and in classic, but I love it none the less.

Have a good day

i always seem’d to end up on paladin … i do not know why… just where my feet landed.

my first official main was a rogue though… the only vanilla char i still own.

This is that rogue.

maybe i’ll level it in DF just to finish off my time with this game nicely.

It doesn’t take long to level to 50 now, if you go into bfa it’s actually fun now you don’t need azerite and all the rest

I levelled Mage and Paladin from my start in Cata, two characters side by side. I’ve nearly always dinged them same day in every expansion.

The benefit is having two very different characters with two very different playstyles, so a change is as good as a break.

I levelled all classes in Legion to do the mounts and pets.

When I started up on Horde, I ofc levelled a Mage and a Paladin there as well … but I also levelled a Hunter and a Demon Hunter.

Hunter and Demon Hunter are especially pleasant, low-maintenance, no-drama classes. Easy to play, easy to get along with. Demon Hunter has a tank spec, for when you need it or when you’re just feeling especially lazy. Hunter has the pet hunt as an added bonus. I like them both. I’m not sure I could live with either as my only class, but they do make great alternatives.

eh, I mainly play for class fantasy more than anything, Vengeance DH is quite fun, I usually main DK, but Progression in player power and learning the intricacies of classes has felt really rather pointless in my whole time playing Wow (started at the end of WoD).
It’s why I only tend to revisit in the launch of an expansion and the final patch of an expansion once all the QoL catch up stuffs in and ridiculous time gates/time sinks are lifted that renders months of peoples’ effort meaningless (psssst constant stat bumps aren’t sustainable blizzard).

First of all, thank you all for feedbacks.

This is what I wanted to go for, Grainne. With Shaman I really love to heal, it’s unique playstyle and I am comfortable playing it. Since I don’t like (I am really bad) to tank or be in melee spot other character should to be range DPS.

@Heist it is very hard to switch, but I see no point playing something that you don’t enjoy. Imagine how many people will switch mains after Evokers come

Nothing.
It seems after playing other MMOs I’m no longer interested in playing DKs for a while. Now I wish reputation and achievements (Without character-based ones) were account-wide…
Not to say there isn’t a possibility for a comeback
