What in the game pushes you to purchase a ‘carry’ from other players in any content?
Is the game too difficult ?
Are catchups not enough/poorly implemented ?

I do not find anyone to play with in my mid tier because everyone ist +30 and get like +30.000/year and they just buy boosts so they do not have ti struggle like I am.
And let’s be real: everyone who has not done any m+ or joined a boosting community as seller by now is some kind of… A bad player you do not want to play with in the first place.
And I am a rich wage slave. And no Family or other females. That’s the main reason i buy boost i guess.
I’ve not bought a boost since legion but buying a boost for me was my experience of finally getting to feel, learn and play at a high level as dps instead of healer in pvp since I knew no good healers, in the end it was very wholesome and we comfortably climbedto 2.4, peaking 2.5 mmr instead of just stopping at 2k and I added them on tag and never had to ‘pay’ either and even got to slap some big mythic plus keys bless legion was a good time
I think the last time I bought a boost for Curve was when I really wanted the arcane bird mount.
At that time I had a really unreliable internet connection. Poor speeds and latency often in the thousands and I had no option to switch ISPs back then as I live in a rural area. I couldn’t go raiding, even though I wanted to because I felt it would be really inconsiderate to other players.
So my only chance to get that mount was by spending gold on someone offering to take me. Hit the boss and die. No problem.
Fortunately, in the last few years there have been groups started on Discord when you no longer have to pay gold. Instead a slot in a group is done by a raffle. Takes longer to get a spot, but people are kinder and nicer to talk to.
I usually buy one for the last tier mount that’s guaranteed drop for everyone.
I do boost others and the main reasons I hear is “Cause I have nobody to play with”, “Cause I am too old/slow/have a handicap/bad internet or computer/something so I cant do it and do not want to be in the way of others”, “its an alt and I cba”
So I assume these are the reasons.
I personally think WoW has too much tuned to the upper players, too much require extreme reactions or require addons (idk many who play without bigwigs/dbm or weakauras).
I feel like the game would benifit from being easier, appeal to more people.
Its what made WoW popular in the beginning: you basically just needed gear and then 99% of the game was “just do it”.
Now its just too harsh on an ever growing and maturing audience, myself included.
I feel my nerves hurting after doing too much boosting or too high content for more than a few hours, unlike when I was a youngling.
So TLDR;
1 - No friends?
2 - Not able to for personal reasons? (Myself having a handicap makes some stuff harder, and also more straining)
3 - its an alt.
The maitance in order to upkeep your charecters in a shape in which they can just go and get curve (example) is way too much in post Legion world. You have to do your chores almost as religiosly as a job in order to play without relying on anyone but yourself.
When I buy boosts for myself, it is because I’m gearing a new char, and I want to gear quickly. So I buy armor stacks to specific dungeons I need for loot. Cuts down on the gearing time dramatically, and I don’t need my friends to sacrifice keys and bring appropriately-armored alts. If I need, say, Ruby or Changeling, or whatever, I can just buy and run 10 dungeon runs to ToP/Mists/etc, with everyone in there able to trade the item to me.
Sure, I could farm it out myself with friends too, but we have better things to do with our time, like running +20 keys and having fun. Farming gear in trivial content is boring, and no fun at all. Making it easier and faster is well worth my gold.
Now, if I could target gear, by having a currency drop, with which I could buy any item from the M+ loot tables every few weeks, I wouldn’t buy a single boost. I’d just farm the currency with whatever keys we have, and buy the items I want once I farmed the currency.
Returning mid tier only to sit around in oribos being spam declined to anything you try to apply for drives people to look at boost options. When you spend more time in game sat in the capital trying to find a group than you do playing the game and enjoying yourself then naturally you want to find a way to just get into the action and be accepted. People don’t see you queueing for their dungeon with low score and think “maybe he only returned in the last few weeks” they just think “bad player”. As a healer I was okay waiting until 11PM onwards and getting invites to groups that were absolutely desperate to just get going and got my score up that way but as a dps you are done for.
Secondly is the shockingly bad drop rates for loot in dungeons now to the point you can do the same dungeon 30+ times in a row and have 5x belt 5x bracers and the trinket you are desperate for drop multiple times usually for the person doing no damage or afk. The boosts increase the chance of just getting that stuff traded to you and cutting out the nonense.
I’ve never purchased a boost.
The guy I got KSM with in this season did buy a boost for his paladin for the MoP CM set back in MoP. Why he did it? Because people didn’t want to do it again and he didn’t want to find others to do, so he just paid for a boost. They asked him afterwards why he paid for a boost because he outperformed the boosters, to which his respons was along the lines of “I cba looking for more people, those I did it with on my priest didn’t want to do it again”.
I’ve “boosted” in SoO for people who wanted the garrosh heirloom weapons. Most of them were already raiders, just doing it again on alts and couldn’t get a run going within their guild and some were people who just wanted to get their hands on them without having to find a raid team. Basically got asked by the mentioned paladin if I could come and heal it because they needed healers. I said sure and did a few boosts with them. Got some gold from it.
Want to get the Sylvanas Bow for my hunter. My guild is super nice, but very casual and doesn’t raid.
My only friend who still plays Wow doesn’t raid either.
Tried the fight multiple times on LFR, didn’t get accepted into a single normal raid, gave up after two weeks of continuous queueing and decided to pay for someone to take me.
It’s not always “not trying” or “not wanting to try”… sometimes, the situation simply doesn’t allow it.
And of course, i 100% understand that groups rather take someone with a good rio score or better gear!
Edit: I only use ingame gold for boosts, and i earn that gold in game - i wouldn’t go as far as paying real money for it. That would be a step too far for me.
This was the same for my shaman in MOP. I did the CM gold on my druid but really wanted the transmog for shaman so bought a boost back then. I ended up outperforming the boosters and got “the mistwalker” title for one of the dungeons being completed so quickly. It saved me so much time frustration finding another group to run with.
Most of it is down to the community shunning certain classes from content they should be able to do.
Then this ties into the fact certain classes are favored and get more added to their toolkit each expac rather then taking it away.
ive never bought one. once i was tempted to have to corrupted drake at the end of BFA… but after i have realized the futility to have another mount i never use… i gave up and went to the pub with a friend.
The only boost I ever bought was for HC Heroic on my hunter because there were absolutely no groups for normal SoD, but that was long after I got my AotC.
Exactly my issue. And some of the normal groups that ARE on my server, literally have “No more hunters” in the description - i assume they get a lot of applications from hunters for the bow.
And what am I supposed to do then? Solo it maybe? Or maybe build my own raiding team, while i am barely above the minimum requirement for normal raids? Suuuuuure.
Yeah, I forgot to mention I also tried starting my own group several times and 90% of the people signing up were hunters, the other 10% rouges, after ~1 hour of waiting with not tanks or healers and a revolving door of dps coming in and leaving I gave up and bought a HC boost. Now that was a month or two ago and the finding/creating groups for Sylv is pretty much in the same state.
I almost bought a Sire AotC boost because it was only 40 grand. I regret not doing it.
I don’t really like the way M+ is so I don’t really bother with it. When I do, once my group has a healer the DPS applications are off the chart.
It’s the Wild West out there for DPS, so the system pretty much forces people to boost.
I made a group once or twice, and had the same issue. Not that it’s much different for lower m+ keys - which is exactly why i play Priest for most dungeons.
I mean, i don’t have a good use for my gold anyway, i got legendaries on all my alts, so i will keep trying for the bow with boosts. And sure, some might say that i can’t be as proud of it in the end… but i earned all the gold to pay those people, and i hopefully get a really sick weapon in the end
And maybe, just maybe, I am too old to care what others think anyway
Yeah I am starting to consider that aswell, I don’t even want it for the ability or the prestige, I just want the mog.
