What puts you off tanking?

I have a hard skin irl. I work in stress situations and I’ve had jobs where a mistake could cost upwards from 1k €.

But I get paid for it. I started doing m+ first time in season 1 (tanking). By the time I got ksm I was burnt out.
In season 2, I tanked 1 +15/week until I got ksm and stopped playing. I got so burnt out I just don’t tank anymore.

As Ancelyn says, you get thrown a ton of hate. I can take it, have like I said a really hard skin. But not without getting paid for it.

Not enough free time.

Oh TANKING!!!

Well basically I don’t particularly enjoy being yelled at by people over a videogame.

Pretty much the same as everyone else here - I have better things to do than be yelled at over simple matters of human error that may or may not have even been my fault, and I’m a high-stress person so I’d rather my favourite game not add to it.

I tank for friends happily, though. But I’m done with that pug life.

Because for me the timer, brings out the worst out of people who cannot accept any failure.

I have done reasonably enough in M+ to be able to get KSM on the 8.3 patch when running it exclusively our guild. Even when things went wrong we were all being adults about it and not throwing any tantrums.

But PuGing M+ at any keystone level that matters aka more than +10 feels like a nerve wracking prospect for me.
Even that one time where my guild lacked 1 player and we brought in a high RiO score guy we found on the group finder, when things went less than perfect on the first boss of +15 Shrine of the Storm, that player quit right away and left us with 4 people and a guaranteed deleveling of the keystone.

A lot of people will be selfish Ooks if they have no repercussions for it and M+ is built in a way that enables that more than anything else in PvE.

“What’s the worst that can happen? Someone leaves and you go again” kind of attitude is what’s needed.

And the keystone is now 1 level lower. Unless they changed that from BFA

Yeah I don’t get that part. Just the other day with my key someone whispered me how sorry he is for having to leave due to problems etc.
I just said: don’t sweat it, thanks for the fun.

I mean, I play wow some time after work as a hobby so I just try to have a little fun and offtime from irl problems

I do not meant people who leave because something unexpected happened and they feel bad about it.

If anything that is more of a reason to not have the keystones delevel unless we want them to.

Pet tanking a dungeon is no longer a viable option.

Yes, so go again.

When one attempts a certain keystone level they mean to do that level, not one lower.
Go again implies it will be the same when you go again and not having to re-level the keystone by doing the dungeon twice in order to re attempt at the intended level.
Just like people do not usually switch a heroic raid to normal because they wiped.

There is a reason there is the phrase “I am sorry for your keystone”

Even with a group of friends/guild we considered it a better investment of our time to go on doing the keystone of someone else in the group than releveling the diminished keystone.

u can join a pug key, maybe not if u got zero score, but if u have taken care of ur score, and have shown that u can time stuff at a certain lvl, u will get invited. i know this from experience. a deplete here and there happends, but so does it in premades, and guild runs and even ‘‘pro’’ ppl deplete keys from time to time, trick is to not cry like a little baby who never had to struggle a tiny bit.

No, it means you go again instead of giving up and complaining about it.

I believe I already explained in my other reply to you that I consider high M+ keys something that I would not do with PuGs.

Of course we will go again if everyone in the group has the time and will for 2 more runs. But that is usually not the luxury everyone else has.

I get what you are saying, my experience has been that mostly people don’t go again though, except in maybe a guild or friend group. You can go again it likely you need to build a new group to do it.

maybe change the mindset about that, a good pug is as good as any decent premade tbh. maybe even better at times.

I don’t want to be the person having to know the entire route from start to finish. Also, I like doing big damage numbers which tanks are usually not made for.

It will not have our Tank’s/Raid leader’s calming voice over Discord though :frowning:

When one is used to run dungeons with fine gentlemen and gentlewomen whom they know, it can be scary to get out of that comfort zone. Especially when hearing the horror stories about PuGs in the forums

I play a lot of M+ keys.

As a dps or healer, you just do your role.

As a tank, you are planning the route, setting the pace and pushing your class as hard as possible to get as much out of a key as you can.

It’s a thankless and difficult task, why work harder when you can take the easy road?

Before my fellow hunters and karen priests start tearing my door down, I’m not saying that DPS/Healing is simple, but comparatively, I’d rather focus on what I’m good at, than having to juggle my role, the route and the pace of the dungeon.

That is why a good M+ tank is sort of a hero to me both for performance and mental fortitude.
