What version of classic to play for PVP?

Hi! I would like to play classic pvp and I’m not sure which version I should play.

Also looking a bit into the future when Mop releases or TBC. Since I want to level a character I want to get some ideas in what era I should do so.

To me it’s important that the world feels populated. I want to casually do BG’s and not worry too much about ranking etc. Mainly for fun.

I’m torn between anniversary that goes into TBC - Wrath or Cata that goes into Mop and further.

What would you recommend me (also keeping upcoming expansion re-releases in mind)

world is dead in every version of wow
avoid TBC the only viable classes in pvp are resto droods, frost mages, rogues, or sl/sl warlocks everyone elsee can go suck a toe.
cata is similar in that regard
mop and arguably wotlk anniversary are the only expacs worth playing if you’re interested in duels/arena/bg but you’ll have to wait for them to drop

Mop will be sick but they only have monofaction servers. 99%horde or alliance. So for me its no point playing there. Anniversary tbc is the only thing im waiting for because you actually see people in the open world. World is very alive

Had a lot of fun during MoP in BG. Paladin was great to play as ret or holy. Had some good times in arena too.

wotlk pvp was probably the best even though it has the death knight problem

That’s not true, i only started on the anniversary realms about a week ago and i’m surprised how alive the world is. In some questing areas you have to wait for respawns because there are that many people around and the other day i was doing a low level dungeon at 4AM on a weekday. I don’t think any version of wow feels more alive than anniversary right now.

TBC will be Dead on Arrival, there is pretty much reason to play this expansion ever and the appeal is pure nostalgia goggles.

90% of those ‘people’ are actually bots that will get automatically rotated to a different layer every 15 minutes… enjoy it while it lasts…

mop is indeed goated for pvpers especially but monofaction realms are gonna suck
world pvp was a big thing on the timeless isle but unless they add a mercenary mode where you can kill your own faction… the only thing thats gonna be on timeless isle are dailies. honestly just enable mercenary mode on the progression realms at this point rather have the choice to fight every single person than none at all

Doing wpvp daily on Spineshatter, there are tons of people to fight and that fights back. It only feels dead right now because there is 500+ AVs running on peaktime since they released ranking again.

If you mean world PvP griefing, your only real option is Anniversary realm Spineshatter. If you mean actual PvP, Classic Mists of Pandaria mono realm of your faction choice is probably best because MoP has arguably best PvP balance in the history of wow and there will be plenty bgs/arena teams going on Firemaw/Gehennas realms.

Lol, its not just griefing , you pve realm players are always lying about this, just stop pls. And did you actually read the post? Its not about the best PvP, its about a living world! Cata mop servers are only pve monofaction, its just sad, thats not world of warcraft

Wpvp and classic wow is a funny thing. One day the min/max meta tells people to get their weekly honnor that way so it’s a total bloodbath everywhere.
Next day meta is telling something else and everybody ignores everyone :slight_smile:

Anniversary servers or maybe ERA is your best bet (unsure how alive era still is).

The OG classic servers the faction balance died in TBC (2022) and so did wpvp. SoD did not ever have much wpvp even in P1 and the balancing etc on this version of the game is a total mess.

I get plenty of encounters on anniversary servers though it does seem quieter than it maybe should be at this point in the progression

I’ve been playing on PvP ruleset from 2005 to 2024. This anniversary char is my first ever on PvE. 95% of all PvP encounters on a PvP realm are griefing. The remaining 5% are a griefer severely misjudging their advantage.
