So now that the storyline of BFA is ‘‘over’’ I still have no idea and i simply dont understand why was there a war? what was it about? I mean I seriously don’t get the story of this expansion.
Because good stories are a chore to write
It’s just a filler expansion, With a chore content and continued subscription.
This is now canon
Blizzard wants to write this epic story, spanning a decade(s), with plot twists and whatnot…
The problem is consistency with already written material.
Any monkey can write a continuation that isn’t tied to much of what happened in the past apart from piggybacking on the recognition of names and making it up as we go along.
Finally, if you play for the story …my future cat’s left nut has a better story than wow.
#edit: to be fair, there’s a whole lot of story in wow and some of it, that should be explored is never done proper “justice”. But the parts we get in game…see cat comment above.
Well the story isnt horrific… i think its More how the story was told realistically.
Basically the point of the war was:
Slyvanus Needed to kill as Many people as Possible to Empower the Jailer in the Shadowlands. reguardless if they were horde or alliance, She couldnt outright herself go out murdering people at a Quick rate without problems occuring so she stirred the hatred between the alliance and horde to create a War.
burning the tree put 10,000 People in the maw for the jailer immediately and the Wars afterwards with her scorched earth tactics and more killed off ALOT of people on both factions feeding further ahead.
She in the background taunted at Saurfang to cause a Internal War inside the horde between the two Sides those fighting for her and those fighting for Saurfang. to further cause more death to be spilt on the gates of Orgrimmar.
when it didnt work out as Saurfang demanded a 1v1… She made him look weak to try and destroy the morale of her opposition and Strike at the hope of the people following him. basically saying they are too weak to stop her and trying to fight her is pointless.
She at this point became angry enough to make a Statement which immediately Put her against her own people and the forsaken did not abandon the horde. therefore she Outright Slaughtered Saurfangf with her Magic as One last time to create fear and Left the Scene.
If you chose her during the War campaign, u then meet her further on in the Ghostlands.
She Played it off as being a Warchief and responding to war and Fighting for the horde to survive while Causing as much death as Possible. thus way keeping her popularity higher but at the same time reaching her goals by the time we became aware of the situation it was too late for she had become too powerful.
She went to Azshara next to strike a bargin with her, to bring us into her Palace to feed into N’zoth she would then use the blade to Capture a Old god and Force his powers to serve Death.
which led into the Intro for Shadowlands Cutscene we saw at blizzcon, where she Pulled the Final Souls required to shatter the Lines between Azaroth and the Shadowlands.
overall the story Isnt horrific, and it does make sense, Espically for Slyvanus to be one to do it, remmeber she is the Person in the orginal Opening scene for Undead Made it clear she is With the horde for power and doesnt intend to remain there Once she has Obtained what Shes there for, shes Never really reguarded the Horde as Allies… more a Means to a End.
She joined the horde as a Path to Reach her goal, not because She intends to be apart of the horde fully.
the parts i dont like is
- theres a Direct retcon in the book, where they’ve changed her Motivations, it was Orgrinally she hated being warchief… to now being apart of her bigger plan.
- its 3 Expansions Late. they Progressed her character more towards FOR THE HORDE for several expansions where she did seem to geniunely to be building relations with the other horde races.
if this plot line Followed WoTLK, it’d fit much more. but now, it comes with the fact she Said she didnt want Warchief in the books… and She admited she Begrudgeningly Respected Voljin massively. These are two major retcons which took place throughout this expansion… which kinda breaks apart and shows blizzard were Not decided on the character they wanted slyvanuis to be.
1/ Sylvanas tried to kill as many people as possible, starting the 4th war
2/ Magni tries to heal Azeroth of her wooonz
3/ Nzoth plot in the background to escape from his prison and corrupt the world
Of all these 3 story have been there since the BFA leveling questlines tho
Azerite resource and Sylvannas hidden plans which we are still not sure what they are. Who ever tells you that we know what they are, they are delusional and not worth listening to.
I have no idea why we went to Kultras in the first place. I think it was about ships or something? When that went south we, as usual, got tangled up in a lot of Turnipcollecting and Beaverpunching.
Horde on the other hand got blindsided by Sylvanas, who basically worked for the Lord of the Underworld, trying to feed him as many Souls as possible.
As said above, WoW-Lore is pretty fuzzy since there is very little consistency. And when you dont like the books youre screwed anyway.
It began as a Proxy war for resources that resulted in a full scale war due to multiple reason such as Zandalari, Old Gods and Sylvanas agenders.
Dunno, I really don’t play MMORPGs for their good story writing I do play single player games for it.
[quote=“Nibelsnarf-draenor, full:true”]Well the story isnt horrific…i think its More how the story was told realistically.

The problem I see here is this:
Blizzard tells it’s story over several expansions worth of game content, requiring players to keep their attention span on point, not to mention their patience, but at the same time going against stuff they told before and this same attention span requirement made the players remember it. And things just don’t compute at the end.
Example: what’s with the sword in the desert by the champions emissary? Scrap metal, permanent fixture? How does that tie into all of this…soul accumulation for Santa?
What many seem to be missing is that there wouldn’t have even BEEN a Battle for Azeroth - I still prefer to see it as “Battle to save Azeroth”, but that doesn’t trip off the tongue quite the same - if Sargeras hadn’t stuck a soddin’ great Sword into our world, thus making the planet spew it’s magical life juice everywhere.
Juice now spewed, the hysterically enterprising green-folk decided there was coin to be amassed from said juice & it’s mystical properties & once the Alliance realised that those sneaky green a-holes weren’t in any hurry to keep their home world alive, they decided to step in & limit the vastness of their coffers.
Suddenly the brown matter got airborne & the race ensued to keep the planet around to save us having to find somewhere else to live… surprises me that the Draenei didn’t have a bigger role in this story; dey bin dere, yo…
Anyhoo… unbeknown to us, playing footsie with the Burning Legion looks like it had a sub-plot that we mere mortals were blissfully unaware of; the last of the most Unholy 4 that literature has ever envisioned seemed to up to no good & had started toying with a few of Azeroth’s prominent figures who - deep down - were just as hell bent on our demise as anything else out there in the deep dark yonder. Having already failed with one Warchief, they decided that they’d use a more willing puppet to exacerbate the foul deeds… enter stage right, one Sylvanas Windrunner: I know many may see her as a-hole-in-chief, but that doesn’t mean you have to spell her name accordingly to get your point across.
So; with the realisation that she wasn’t as malleable as some thought her to be, plan B was exercised & we end up with the current state of affairs… exit stage right, one unwilling puppet; enter stage left, one less-than-pleased puppet master… equally hell-bent on our worlds’ demise but deciding that, “if a job’s worth doing, you may as well get yer own hands dirty”.
That should be everyone up to speed… have fun once the Servers are back up & running.
It was certainly not about Old Gods.
There are absolutely no Old Gods in BFA.
There are now… N’zoth adds Jesi to his/its list of prime targets.
This sadly would make much more sense than the actual story.
This expansion felt like multiple filler stories in a filler story.
We defeated the Legion together->Horde burns tree and now we are at war->we travel to an island to solve their problems (suddenly Zandalari are Horde’s buddies)->we fight against each other->Alliance travels into an enemy territory to kill an old god thing they never heard of->we invade the island the opposite faction is helping->Alliance attacks the Zandalari and kill their king because then they for sure remain neutral->we fight against some N’zoth cultists in Kul Tiras->we fight against Azshara…and are just in time to stop a gnome from using his ultra nuclear bomb on an island you can see from Kul tiras’ west shore->Saurfang gets killed by Sylvanas leading to the end of the 4th war (the probably shortest and least eventful to ever happen)->we are all friends and everything is again forgotten to again stop some old god thing.
And sometimes Azerite plays a small role in this.
Thank you, this made my day… and my belly hurt.
Ah, I liked the wordplay.
Like, if you were fighting to save your family, you’d say it was a “fight for your family”.
So, it was a battle for azeroth, not a battle to see who could rule it, but a battle to save it.
I wish I could like this a second time!
I always took is as the battle to save Azeroth. Not the battle of Azeroth.
The BfA cinematic was misleading.
