A giant giant mess that should be made not canon and have people who actully care about writing even decent story replace current ones and do a reboot of at latest legion ending,or better from groundup after wc3.
renember chroniles as soon first came out they had already retconned parts imeadtly.
aslo dont forget have to as belf/zandalri work to free baien together with Jaina who did purge of dalaran/killed your king and sacked your city. and as zandlari for one cow you dont know with orcs and elves youve never seen/heard of it cause reason.
Or just any horde who might not like sylvannas but would prefer to win/secure war first before causing an internal fight/war.
The war was pushed by Sylvanas ulterior motives which now bring us to shadowlands
The idea was that the souls who died get nommed by some dude in the afterlife who has a contract of sorts to give Sylvanas power so he gets more powerful and so does Sylvanas, which is how she noscoped Saurfang
Edit: o rite we also burned a big tree down
Imo the story wasn’t too bad, it was just not properly told ingame
i think some people did something
A problem we’ve been having consitently since cataclysm is that Blizzard in order to maximise profits have excluded in game story telling for out of game books and website stories - which means if people dont read them they don’t see how we get from a to b to y in teh game.
Example ; Sylvanus and this jailor chap agreement, the ‘peace’ treaty between horde and manduin. etc… alot of this happens ‘outside’ of the player view one way or another so it complitcates the laughable ‘story’ arc again.
I just feel a great sense of relief that the worst expansion in the game’s history is finally coming to an end. SL may also be naff, and certainly looks that way from the previews I’ve seen, but it’s hard to imagine it being worse than BfA.
11/10 would watch, rewatch, comment, subscribe, share, re-rewatch, obsess over, write quasi-erotic BDSM fanfiction about and get rich from all the repressed housewives who would buy it.
Still better love story than the real bfa lore
And Sylv is absolutely not Garrosh 2.0
The only reason bfa is better than WoD is because of allied races.
Not for for the alliance tho lol
Tbh i enjoy BFA more then WoD.
The lands are more interesting, it isn’t based on dimensional travel, and overall the gameplay is more enjoyable.
WoD was a terrible time, I quit 2 weeks into WoD and only returned 2 weeks prior legion.
Wait there were plot twist in this expansion ?
I bet that Blizzard cancelled the faction war considering how bad 8.0 and 8.1 have been, at least that’s how it feels: Unfinished.
Blah… They wanted to start with war and “subvert expectations” by making “Battle to save Azeroth” out of it. Like “subverting expectations” was ever good~ /cough Star Wars.
We wasted too much time with Kultirans and Zandalari that even if BFA would be a good idea then it was poorly executed. We are solving problems of our potential allies without seeing war and when its time to finally join war - faction war is over. We as champions slept thro first part of expansion by playing diplomats.
It was a story about how helpless we are but to fall into the schemes of some old god which is not even as strong as other threats we have already eliminated.
I guess this is a problem with stories, especially mmos that go this route, at some point the player just becomes so strong that it can cause inconsistencies.
I don;t mind that too much, but this whole, old god, so smart, we are just pawns does get a little bit on my nerves, i hope they will find a good excuse for that, and not just, because me smart you dumb, it just seems that the old gods have a hand in everything, ok, how? Are the other people just dumb and always fall into their schemes, even though they defeated really powerful smart enemies, that require not only strength but also intelligence, or the old gods are just extremely smart?
Normally this type of story i wouldn’t mind much, but since the characters in wow, especially the player have become extremely powerful, it does cause some inconsistencies, so better find a very good excuse.
Or better, not that there are no threats, but, you need to create new bigger threats to keep the “urgency” in the story, already established threats have a limit, if they were to suddenly say old gods are now more powerful than any threats we have faced so far, it would be very inconsistent, so what they can do is introduce new more powerful enemies, but that also has it’s own problem, since not always they are well received.
For example, if we were to fight a threat like deathwing again, at about that power level, it would not feel very urgent, because the characters that we have at the moment are way more powerful, this is why for me queen Azshara didn’t really cut it, because she’s not even close to being as strong as threats we have already faced in legion, especially in the last patch, there was a massive power spike. For me it’s not a big deal, the increase in power that is, but it does cause some problems.
This was shoehorned into the plot at the very last minute and confirmed by BellularGaming who quoted the official quotes from the tie-in material. They never planned this far ahead and because of that, the story and Slyvanas’ character motivation clash with the plot.
All what Sylvanas ever wanted was to destroy the Alliance by taking over Stormwind. That was her actual motivation after Legion was over.
Angry lady found new currency, the she wiped part of the other faction to stop them from reaching, and then one of the dying people told her shes a loser, angry lady burned their tree house, and then pew pew pew Flying ship, angry mage comes in full force and roflstomps the people who took other angry lady orders.
Suddenly naga everywhere, naga queen shows up and trolls everyone (again)…then people who took angry mage and angry lady orders worked together and smacked the naga queen
Suddenly huge tentacle appears and someone at blizz decided " HEY, HOW ABOUT WE SHOOT OURSELVES IN THE FOOT AND PUT NZOTH HERE" “omg genius !!!”
here we are !! this is the summary of bfa’s story
(off topic, i actually like bfa now… cause it was dog sh** the first patch)
It would be very naive to think there will be consistency in story after 15 years and 7 expansions. No storyteller would be able to do that. WoW world is simply too big for it already.
Read a book or play smt like Red dead redemption 2 for a good story. But MMO with multiple expansions? Zero chance.
For a guess, BfA was originally intended to focus solely on the Horde / Alliance conflict, but after the negative reaction to it and people abandoning the game like the plague, Blizzard quickly gave up with that lame idea and decided to throw Azshara into the mix in a desperate attempt to salvage things. After that, they needed an even bigger villain for 8.3 so they went for N’Zoth. Thus wiping out two of the biggest and most iconic villains in WoW’s history in the space of a couple of patches and ruining any chance of future expansions based around them.
