What was OG Mists of Pandaria like?

We will probably see a MoP Classic eventually, but I am really curious to what the OG was like. Good? Bad?

I heard mixed things about new talent systems and classes. People seemed to like PVP and raids. I personally never played it (stopped in Cata and started again in Shadowlands).

I was on an extended break during MoP (even though I liked the theming and such, I was just ā€˜done’ with WoW at that point in my life; having quit the game near the end of WotLK). And I’ve been looking forward to MoP Classic, but honestly… With remix now… I think I’m a bit ā€˜MoP-ed out’.

It was excellent. The story was done with care and attention to detail. The zones were excellent and the raids were probably the best we’ve ever had.

I kinda agree, though, they’ve done MoP now. Who wants to progress a raid next week that you swotted like a fly last week?

Most folk hated it before it was released because pandas.

Then it was actually released and humble pie was eaten

I fear a lot of people will be in the same boat.

Sure the class design is vastly different, the pacing will be slower, the legendary quesline will be there, as will the original vale… But at the end of the day it’s once again the same dungeons, scenarios and raids. Especially the raids, oh god, with a daily lockout there’s going to be a lot of burnout for those places and I’m not sure that will be over in 1 year’s time.

Honestly i’m Happy with MoP Classic.
I have made recently an Pandaren and the ā€œtraining Turtle zoneā€ It was fantastic, i also like the lore around of It.

Not sure I agree with this  MSV’s theme was bland imo, just the same palace and ruins we saw during questing and the dungeons. HoF was dull to look at in color, bosses were meh too. Terrace was very much ok.

Throne of Thunder and Soo were both gems, I agree, with ToT being the clear winner in my book. But compared to an expansion like Legion where we got 3 amazing raids after each other (EN can shove off though), or TBC that gave us absolutely epic raids and encounters overall.

Class design was (mostly) great in MoP. This is why PvP was so popular back then.
Holinka did say that PvP and PvE participation were equal during that era. It very much wasn’t a ā€œside gameā€ back then.

Most of the zones were decent
The dungeons were unpopular
Nobody cared about scenarios
Far too many dailies
The raids were good
Class design was probably the best it’s ever been
Content drought raiding Siege or farming Timeless Isle for 14 months

Accurate summary, I agree.

It’s weird how MoP dungeons are some of the worst ever made, whilst the raids are some of the greatest ever made.

Except beer raid , with beer spirits

I’m a ā€œcasual contentā€ player and I really enjoyed MoP overall, though it had far too many dailies and reputations! I liked the upgrades to tracking the stories with chapters and really enjoyed the story start to finish (they did a good job at making me hate Garrosh, for sure). I absolutely adored my farm and I may even play MoP classic just for that as Remix skipped it. I was able to do the raids via LFR, so it felt like a completed story for me for once, although I didn’t get far with the legendary cloak. Scenarios were a fun addition but I didn’t do them very often and contrary to above opinions, I actually liked the dungeons save a few.

I can’t remember what class design was like in any expansion of the game, only if I enjoyed my class or not. I think I played a Druid but wasn’t that bothered with her… I may have played a Warlock? Seriously, no idea. I think MoP is where we said goodbye to the talent tree though, at the time I was fine with it because talents were a bit too much of a headache for me and I felt like I actually had more choice with fewer options rather than having to stick in some meta build and not know what I was doing.

I do remember Monks being a lot more fun to play, though. I’d probably make a Pandaren Monk and do it all again

Oh I completely disagree. Most of them are good imo.
I completely hate WotLK dungeons, personally.
And I’m not a fan of most of the BfA ones either.

Indeed.
Windwalker was designed around Tigereye Brew, which was removed in Legion and replaced with a generic burst CD: Serenity.
Mistweaver still had Chi and Stances, both of which were removed in Legion.

So you’re right.
Pre-Legion was more fun than current Monk.

I remember fists of fury also stunning all those it hit but I don’t know when they decided that was too OP and removed it.

I seriously hated Siege of Niuzao Temple.

My favourite thing about MoP was hanging around in Timeless Isle. I have fond memories of that.

Definitely.
The other dungeons aren’t especially ā€œbadā€ or annoying, but the theme just isn’t there.

Yeah. The atmosphere is seriously lacking.
And the atmosphere is precisely what they nailed with Throne of Thunder for example.

Initially people disliked the theme, but it was a fun expansion to play from what I remember.

However having played remix and raided a huge amount being overpowered, I’m not eager to do try MoP Classic any time soon.

I like the fantasy of that dungeon, but it’s not my favorite MoP dungeon, I will admit.

Different tastes I suppose. The themes are some of my favorites amongst WoW dungeons.

For me stuff like: Pit of Saron, Forge of Souls, Oculus, The Nexus and that sort of thing are amongst my most hated dungeons.
