The horde has this already
I dont think giving them to the alliance will do much more than the void elves already did. Especially now the void elves are getting the skin tones.
Im not disagreeing that its not a reason the horde is popular.
But I am disagreeing with the idea that you will get a significant population change by giving it to the alliance as well.
People who want to play that model will already be on the horde. Where they have played for years and have made friends there.
If they really didn’t like the horde then the void elf would have given them what they wanted and convinced them to swap.
I just dont think you can convince a horde player to leave the horde by offering them exactly what they have now, just on the other faction.
Players who only cared to be pretty elf don’t care about background lore. These players are not going to pay to be those elves for the benefit of being in a castle city when AHing at cost of access to groups and anyone who believes otherwise is naive in my opinion.
Only a minority of wow players give somewhat of a hoot about lore and of those only some of them care about elven lore enough to think it’s worth changing race over.
I think buffing Alliance wont fix it. I think first they need to actually make faction choice meaningful. What is the point of choosing faction when open world pvp has become absolute garbage. One the main reason I preferred WoW over other MMORPG’s was the spontaneous open world PvP. And I loved how you sticked with one faction even when you were outmanned by other faction. These days most players have character on both sides and so there can be no loyalty to faction choice when it is so easy to juggle between factions.
The appeal of good boy faction that can make no mistake and everything they do somehow turns out to be a good deed in the end doesn’t help at all.
The Alliance story feels one dimensional and no matter what they do they always end up as the good guysTM , Genn trying to assassinate horde warchief in the middle of a world ending crisis? Nah turns out he saved us all !
So I say, the best thing to make the Alliance race more popular is to get rid of this cliché and start making the Alliance an actually morally grey faction that is cool.
In my case:
Aesthetics.
I remember back in vanilla, I started leveling a NE Hunter and a Human Paladin, as alts after this character hit lv 60.
I reached lv 30 or so with the NE and stayed on lv 19 with my Human character.
Unfortunately that changed, with the introduction of the Blood Elves.
It’s like having the best of the NE and Human world all together.
6 out of my 10 max level characters are BEs.
Lore.
For example if the Horde would fall in to chaos.
Like Baine and Thrall being killed and someone like Gul’dan taking over.
It’s hard tbh.
Here’s my unpopular opinion:
Blood Elves should had never been inserted on the Horde.
That ruined both factions aesthetics permanently and gave birth to the term: “Red Alliance”.
Not only that they had 0 impact on the Horde.
Twice the Horde has fallen to chaos, and races like Blood Elves and Nightborne should had prevented that as we are talking about civilized races with thousands of years experience in politics.
I also don’t think players like me are what the Alliance needs atm.
I don’t play Arenas, BGs, Warmode, Mithic+.
What the Alliance probably needs are players that play this types of content.
How to entice them ?
Write more aggressive lore on Alliance side, starting with Tyrande quest for vengeance.
Turalyon being more aggressive and willing to end the Horde, problem once and for all.
Start giving reasons for the Mithic teams to reroll Alliance, the same for raiding Guilds, the rest will follow, like domino.
To those who just don’t mesh with the horde aesthetic and backbone, the alliance foundation will always be more appealing, even though the current trend during wow’s lifetime is well behind the horde in almost everything.
Another way of looking at it, if we were all humans, with the aesthetic you liked the most, and we just follow story and cool factor editions? You’d see the horde side having a lot more work done to it, a lot more development, both in terms of build up, infrastructures, story lay out, plots… etc etc.
Even when your faction has the villain, your faction is also the hero, you’re cooler, more powerful, and the cool stuff your races get, go to you… You’d feel the other side was a bit useless. Or not cool, or at the very least, not on par.
