How do Gnome players react to it? They’re basically the OG cutesy race and have been dealing with that since vanilla WoW.
I can’t answer that sorry, never played Gnome myself, or asked that to any of them.
But I assume they get annoyed by it as well?
I’d like to see:
- More Vulpera exclusive events, different caravans all meeting every so often, sharing news, stories and honouring those who were lost is a great idea and it shows how the Vulpera may travel far across the world now but still return to see each other when they can.
- More exploration of spiritualism, just because Vulpera have little lore to go off as to their spiritualistic sides, it would still be good to see events exploring Vulpera communing with ancestors/their connection to the elements, Loa and faith in general.
- More found power, less natural talent. What I saw in the Vol’dun quests is that Vulpera are able to be jack of all trades, you literally give Vulpera random weapons and they run off and pick them up quite easily whether they use a staff and cast spells, heal others or pick up bows, guns or blades. It’s a really interesting concept that seems to be overwhelmed by naturally talented types that to me kind of doesn’t acknowledge that Vulpera used whatever they could for years and didn’t have the privilege to be able to hone a talent.
- While I’m on that, less incredibly powerful Vulpera. It has been a few years in lore and real life since BfA but I think a lot of people underestimate just how downtrodden the Vulpera were. If there were just these archmage level arcanists and such wandering around you’d think the race wouldn’t be on the verge of extinction and being driven out of their last permanent settlement in BfA. You can be a rich Vulpera, even a reasonably powerful Vulpera, but good grief you didn’t have all that time to become as powerful as a Draenei with multiple planets worth of experience nor did you somehow fall upon millions of gold. I know it’s a matter of pride to an extent because of how people treat Vulpera but isn’t it more fun to gang up on someone in a back alley for insulting you rather than randomly summoning a meteor storm? Some of the best Vulpera RP I’ve seen comes from characters slowly learning now they’ve got breathing room to rather than just being randomly powerful and without struggle now Vol’dun is free.
- Less random abuses against Vulpera, less characters who make you want to punch them. The Vulpera at no point in lore beyond the Bilgerats have been represented as characters who are just looked down upon by races who aren’t Zandalari or Sethrak. Sure they’re underestimated about but the usual ‘short race let’s treat them like dirt and abuse them at random’ is awful. However I partly understand why it happened, the first months or even years of Vulpera RP have led to some awfully annoying characters popping up. If you’re playing an annoying scoundrel at least play one properly rather than Kiki Cookie Eater II.
That list turned into a mini essay but Vulpera had and have a lot of potential as a race, they just need to have a firmer community rather than infighting, be approached with more open minds by the wider RP community and, yes, be RP’d in ways that stop people from going ‘ugh’ every time they walk into a room. Some guilds and individuals already do this well, others not so much, but it just takes trying in the end.
I do like that DF showed them having found their places on occasion, with the scouting parties at the very start or (again) the Artisans Consortium. More of that kinda thing would be nice.
I can’t formulate my suggestions about engagement right now beyond the hope that more guilds/communities will give vulpera players more opportunities.
However, I can comment about how my vulpera version of “ruthless” was this caravan leader who had lost many of his friends and his family to the cruelties of Vol’dun, which led him to become a harsh overprotector. Not letting strangers near their group and forbidding the group from going to certain places or making decisions without him, etc. An intense sense of survival driven by fear and grief, ultimately. Stories like these, I personally find compelling. There are many ways to make a “tough” vulpera. I hope it resonates with someone else
None.
Delete the race.

Too bad, it’s a forum, not a personal sounding board.
The Vulpera are a fascinating race with rich potential but sadly and repeatedly they have been badly represented and manifested by the player base.
So now we have gotten the initially intended caffuffle aside - I’d like to see them integrated into Horde RP better, outside generic caravans and well beyond the more frightening aspects of what more alarming curious of the community tend to lean toward.
Perhaps less their trader personality’s and more their class personality’s and how their Vulperan culture effects those paths.
Vulperan warriors, rogues, hunters, mages, priests. More of this please.
Less about ‘sounding board’. More ‘This second post is fine and raises valid points, why was the first even necessary?’
Still; warriors mentioned
There’s a lot of really good points on this topic already.
I really don’t know if “uwu i’m a cute vulpera pet me!” or “uwu you’re a cute vulpera i pet you!” came first, but both are an endless source of frustration for me. On one hand I dislike Blizzard’s small race-syndrome (being hit with the zany or cute treatment), which depicts too many Vulpera as cutesy and/or silly, and I feel like that alone affects a lot of people’s perceptions on the race. They only need to meet one or two roleplayers who play such characters, and suddenly you’ve made your mind on the whole race.
I personally definitely encounter more of the “uwu you’re a cute vulpera i pet you!” type. It’s jarring to roleplay a character who has half of their face burnt off who is then approached by people openly commenting on the “cuteness” and “fluffiness” of your character. 99% of those people are also completely in disbelief when your character points out (not kindly) to stop objectifying strangers and touching (or attempting to) without permission.
As a Vulpera roleplayer, I’d rather want to point the mirror at those people and question what kind of environment they’re creating IC. It definitely drives Dustara to be more insular and closer to kin than other races - their lack of understanding and respect is intolerable for her and a constant source of her scorn. You want to see more Vulpera branch out from their caravans and communities? Make it worth their while
Also I have to say that as a Vulpera main, I see much, much more of the grittier, serious side of Vulpera than any of the cutesy silly stuff. I am constantly in awe with the storytelling of my fellow Vulpera roleplayers - there’s so much depth and passion people are pouring into them
Honestly though, Mekavolt worded it best imo:
PREACH
I’ll grant that it’s more often OOCers than actual RPers who do this but god it is annoying all the same.
Because that’s unfortunately how the alarming and worrisome few, have created a view of the entire Vulperan Rp community.
It’s a hefty weight to bear, breaking free from that image. I actively avoid Vulpera RP’ers because they repeatedly fall into … bluntly put, disgusting trends.
Those who do it best? The rare few gems, are not in Vulpera guilds, they are brilliantly done and interesting individuals who focus on the boons of that race and how it effects their class. More of these people are direly needed.
I’m sorry if my comment seemed offensive, but the good ones are currently vastly ‘outshined’ by the bad. And that isn’t good. It’s a pleasant surprise to see them done well, but I could count them on one hand.
“You know, [Race] knuckle and hand bones sell surprisingly well in certain markets. If you’re so clearly not in need of these ones then, by all means - I’ll take them off you. Otherwise, please; refrain.”
I want lore adherence, tolerance of the vulpera as an entity in the world and to see them lose their stigma.
Tarring entire groups with a broad brush doesn’t help, though.
There’s some awful Worgen ‘RPers’ out there. Should they all be judged the same?
Or Blood Elves, at one point or another?
Hell, let’s go really broad; Goldshire exists. Therefore the Alliance (RP scene) is beyond all redemption.
I’m not trying to sound snappy, honest. But the way to combat the ‘few bad ones’ is not to give them an over-inflated sense of space or airtime than they deserve (which is Not A Lot)
Edit: Anyway, sorry, yes, moving on as to not derail. Else Cro will sic the Lord of All Moofs on me (slowly)
You’re going towards the Moof of Madness.
What if… Blizzard gave Vulpera the Mad Max treatment? Imagine desert caravans with spikes and flamethrowers and heavy metal music and impaled Sethekk. Maybe they can combine arms with Goblins for that.
No one will think of them as cutesy.
Or even better: Dune
Walk without rhythm
So, we could definitely use a gathering of sorts in actual Vol’dun is one of my take aways from this thread.
Less following big movie tropes in current media, more of original Vulperan focus
