I have a velf arcane mage and I don’t think the race suit them well besides their racial empowerment trait. What would make sense, lorewise?
Gnome is the only answer.
I have read your posting in another topic about this too. Unfortunately though I have already a warlock gnome which fits the bill as well.
Human. They’ve got Potential™
Everything is on the table, really. Nothing doesn’t make sense lorewise from the options you have ingame.
It largely comes down to your preferences - and you do have those, evidenced by not wanting to stick to a velf. I’d suggest you go with your gut or read up on mage lore for a spark of inspiration.
Lorewise Void Elves could be a good choice, mages are scholars and researchers.
Same goes for Humans, a good choice. Naturally that extends to Kul’tirans too.
Worgen also have mages, arch mage arugal presumably trained in Dalarwn but since the wall went up that doesn’t mean they didn’t train their own magi.
mechagnome or draenei, no contest.
I always like the idea of a Nelf Arcane mage, but I think almost anything works, really.
Not really.
Jaina was seen as strange for wanting to be a Mage, so it’s not a standard thing in Kul Tiran society.
Nightborne mages are sick
… And that opens the door to join the Highbloods? Damn that makes them even cooler.
Edit: I’m unable to read, simply ignore me
And yet with the new Lord Admiral leading the nation it may inspire some young Kul’tirans to delve into the arcane themselves.
Still isn’t a standard part of their society.
It might become that, but it wasn’t prior, nor atm.
Eh.
I don’t mind having a velf arcane mage, however, I think that the shadow priest and marksmanship fantasy suits them better because they have a specific colorization code for both classes in the legion artifact weapons for them. Besides, I want to make a velf who will be a follow of N’Zoth which is rather void based instead arcane. If I just could class change, then it wouldn’t be a problem.
I think the official term is Locus Researcher or something like that, next to the Rift Blades and so on.
I actually consider making the character into a Worgen, tbh.
My diaper amputee gnome should be glad that he is even alive as a hunter at this point!
I have already three nelfs which is way too much (Druid, Hunter, DH). And just in case if the question comes up: I have a LV120 Arcane NB mage as well.
But you could be Kel’thuzad 2.0!
Gnome for the 5% int or Human from Rep boosts
We don’t have enough character slots to do every race/class fantasy, otherwise I would give it a shot.
But that’s in Classic only, right?
Well, it gives you 5% increased mana/rage/energy on retail.
I don’t think he was saying whether it was a standard part of their society or not - correct me if I’m wrong. He was saying that, in terms of human lore, they would have the same natural aptitude as any other human. There will also always be outliers and exceptions to any rule. Even if, as you say, they’re seen as abnormal.
My personal favourite option for a mage blue-side is probably Night Elf, mostly because I enjoy characters who are the subject of social stigma. Maybe Worgen, as the contrast between the savagery of the Curse and the elegance of a spellcaster is cool to me.
Yeah that’s fair. I mean, you’re breaking poor Magister Umbric’s heart by saying this, but it’s fair.
If I were to suggest an Alliance race with some arcane legacy to their name, then, I’d suggest either a night elf or draenei. Both have a long history (and former mastery) of arcane magic, and both have seen their unrivaled empires fall from the allure of power.
Now with the night elves, there’s a hook in the Highborne out of Shen’dralar having gradually integrated back into a society that viewed their kind with contempt for some 10.000 years. This seems to have more or less worked out by now, but it’s never the less an angle with potential.
Draenei mages on the other hand are a bit of another story. They were never exiled from their fellow… well exiles, but it seems to me that they occupy a minority role with the dawning of a Light-centric culture among them. This being said, even the Lightforged draenei have mages among them, who even remark that some of their kind stick to “true magic” despite its sordid past.
Also an interesting choice to play with. Though a werewolf in a robe will never not look hilariously awkward to me.
It’s okay, I have a worgen warlock and I made damn sure I had a set that didn’t involve any robes.
