What's up with Blizzard wasting characters? (SPOILER)

Kil’jaeden, Tirion, Rastakhan, Azshara, Saurfang and now N’zoth with 8.3, just to name a few, all got wasted like they’re not relevant at all.

The fact that we just kill N’Zoth like he is nothing is mind blowing to me. This guy got teased like crazy for almost 10 years just to get deleted the second he arrives.

He should be one of the greatest threats we’ve ever had. He was in chains for a quadrillion years because he’s so dangerous and the moment he manages to escape we just kill him?

The same happened with Azshara. Probably the strongest mage that every existed surprised us after planning this crap for an eternity and gets defeated like she’s nothing.

I don’t understand what’s going on with Blizzards storywriting but it’s so damn infuriating for someone who’s been a fan of the warcraft universe for 15 years.

I agree with the message of your topic and understand your frustration. But. Let’s be honest. Why should Azshara be more powerful then let’s say Kil’jaeden or Argus? It was obvious she would be standing no chance against us players. We are just as legendary as the big names by now.

I know playing the “wait and see”-card is kind of an old joke, where it concerns Blizzard’s writing… I’m gonna play it here anyway. Blizz took care to make N’zoth the bad guy behind most of the stuff that went wrong in the last years. And now… they made him test us in a side raid… before sending us on a collision course with Azshara, who wanted to kill him with the dagger… he provided for her. And the next addon is probably in some way dealing with the realm of death.

Now call me an optimist, but if there was some point where we outsmarted N’zoth I haven’t seen it, and thus I assume things are going according to his plan. A plan we might learn at the end of the addon. N’zoth’s defeat will not just get a cutscene, where we see go super sayjan and blast him, there will still be a cinematic to go with it. They also haven’t played out his “gift” yet.

Let me try a different angle here. Personally the entire expansion feels like a filler addon solely created with the explicit purpose to deal with all the old world problems. How well this was executed is up to debate of course but generally?

  • The faction conflict has been mostly resolved. Horde and Alliance finally decided to break the cycle of hatred…at least that was Blizzards intention. Sylvanas, the most problematic leader of the Horde when it comes to peace, was ousted from the Horde. Genn was somewhat defanged. Tyrande is the obvious exception of course, but Shandris is already build up as a potential replacement.
  • Aszhara, one of the last big names of the old lore along with characters like the Lich King and Deathwing, got defeated in her own palace. Her elite forces have been killed, the best of her naga have been crushed.
  • N’zoth is up next. With him dying the Old Gods will be done for. Even if one of them rises up again, they will never be as powerful as before.

With all of these out of the way Azeroth has become more or less peaceful. All big bads have been crushed, all problems have been resolved, all the old lore was finished up. As such Blizzard can now go every direction they want without the old “burden”.

It’s not resolved at all though. The horde still has to make up for some huge atrocities they commited, before that there can’t be peace because it’s too likely that the horde will do the same thing again in 2 years.

That’s the problem, it doesn’t make sense. Anduin and many others aren’t acting in a reasonable way.

Maby they got wasted or not, thing is Blizzard has one thing up their sleve, and that is the bronzedragon flight, so technicaly, they could send up back in time to what ever time they so please, whit a smal plot twist and all of an sudden we are back in wc3 era or so.

I’ve been wondering that myself OP, I don’t understand either…

Setting N’Zoth free would’ve been a perfect time to completely alter the world to show just how powerful and terrifying an Old God set free really is. Instead we finish the raid and… nothing. No consequences of any kind (yet).

And Azshara… her entire build-up was just weak. All of a sudden we get some weak Naga world quests but no real reason to go after her imo. She opened up the ocean and destroyed some boats big deal. Once we got the Tidestone back we could’ve just left but we walk right into her trap.

Would’ve loved seeing more of Kil’jaeden too, he feels a bit wasted because we just don’t get to see enough of him. I absolutely loved the 7.2 cinematic of him talking to Sargeras and I wanted more of that. His raid and fight was pretty damn epic though.

the Problem is WoD scared blizzard.
as such having one focused villain from the start with the same theme through out a whole expansion.
Just does not interests players as much.

also they pretty much killed and re-used most of their bad guys, except those we see now so, they just want to be rid of anything with the old lore so they can go crazy in their dojo?

Having new characters making their way into the story is nice. But players, the ones who have been playing WOW for so long, will never forget the “older” characters. I understand the writers are not the same as before, but the players are. So I dont know what they’re thinking right now. It’s just a pity to see the old Lore ruined. Legion was a bad expansion with an even worse enclosure.

First of, you are jumping to a conclusion that is not final since its just datamined and remember Blizzard hid from us an entire patch in 8.2.5…

Secondly, if you believe said datamine to be accurate then you should have also seen the datamine in which we free Azshara, she tells us her plan and procceeds to walk away which means we’ll be seeing her again in the future.

So… all ur arguments invalid?

Nzoth was being teased for 10 years as the ultimate schemer corrupting everyone, Deathwing, the Emerald Dream etc… he was never portrayed as Almighty, in fact we were constantly been told he was the weakest of the Old Gods. So what do u think would happen if u fight in combat the ultimate schemer? Cant scheme ur way out of direct combat when ur head is the size of a city sry…

If you seriously believe N’zoth dies, then dies hope of the next moneymaking expansion. Blizzard cant kill this ‘’ Main Villain’’ now. N’zoth is the Corruptor, first link who speaked to Deathwing and made him insane. One video doesn’t prove a death of an old god. It’s a spoiler to raise curiosity and fastening conversation before next expansion. N’zoth might have a big role on the upcoming expansion. But now a little bit ice to that hat atleast.

It was Sylvanas. Done.

Uh no it wasn’t. Atleast not her alone

That doesn’t interest Blizzard. In the next patch an armistice is signed by both parties with the only one not signing being Tyrande (while Genn shows objections it’s not mentioned anywhere that he doesn’t sign the treaty)…and who cares about Tyrande? If she does anything, she will be kicked out of the Alliance and will become fair game for both factions. Which I think will happen so that Tyrande becomes the “Alliance” equivalent to Sylvanas.

Yea and all of this is horrible writing. Making Tyrande the only reasonable character in the alliance, the alliance itself turning a blind eye on the horde again even though they know what happened last time when they made peace with the horde etc…

It’s not like all of Battle for Azeroth was already a horribly written mess which should have never been created in the first place.

And what do you think should happen? You cannot dissolve the Horde as a player faction. You cannot punish the Horde players, because most of them didn’t sign up for this sh**-show in the first place. You cannot do anything at all, which is the reason why faction wars are complete crap and should have never been a major plot point in ANY expansion. Border skirmishes, yes but never a major large scale war.

As unsatisfying as the ending of BfA is I’d rather end the faction conflict permanently like this while hoping that Blizzard never digs it out again.

Uh no but maybe make the alliance characters act reasonably and logically instead of being stupid, forgiving victims everytime.

I want a conclusion to the BfA faction war. At the end of legion there was no reason for a war while now, there are a million reasons for war and for the alliance to strike back but instead we have peace.

Stop dodging the question. How do you think the Alliance should act and what do you think should the Alliance do against the Horde WITHOUT punishing the Horde players?

It is concluded with an armistice. What YOU want is revenge which ironically means that the writing team did a pretty good job.

We all want characters to act reasonable.

And don’t you go thinking that Horde-side this end is any more satisfying than “yours”.
I’m rather tired of half the Horde characters shooting themselves in the foot, after having the other half turned stupid evil for no other reason than shock value.

Uh maybe say things like “Oh maybe we shouldn’t fully trust the horde because they have proven that it can have devastating consequences” or push the horde out of Darkshore and Ashenvale and make them rebuild these lands.

It is not. Alliance does the same mistake again, horde gets away better off than before the genocide, Night Elves are basically extinct now and their lands are still in horde hands etc. There is absolutely no conclusion. How can you say this means that the writers did a good job? lol
