In what direction WoW Art is going?
Are there any talented artists left in Blizzard?
I know it’s all about personal taste and preference, but my voice is not alone in this, many people already voiced their complaints about it (on US forum, for some reason we are being segregated from them and not allowed to combine our opinions into one). I’ll just repeat this topic here, on EU forum.
Dryad redesign is awful. Why did you have to take a totally normal looking model that was already redrawn and perfected in Legion and make this hermaphrodite abomination instead?
My complaint is not that it’s just ugly and you went full Sharia on it, not only flattening body features but now covering lower abdominal area with fur as well. I realise that apparently beauty, grace and femininity is canceled in WoW for the reasons of lawsuits and your fear of even a hint of sexualization now, so you turn women into fruits, yada yada, it’s all been discussed multiple times. I don’t even care about your chastity crusade that much. But the model itself is poorly done, has no character, deadpan unanimated face and overall poor taste and lack of originality. I know junior designers who put more effort into doodles on a napkin than this sh** you call game art.
And my concern is not just about Dryads, but more about the tendency in the art style of this game which is going somewhere in the drain. Its all over the place, neither fantasy/whimsical/cartoonish nor realistic in general. It’s like separate teams on different continents work on it and can’t agree what it should be.
Can you please hire your artists based on the raw talent and skill, and not on the amount of dye in their hair and pronounce count in their twitter profile? (Same goes for your story writers team)
Thank you

It looks decent enough in my opinion, thoug they forgot to add an armored version, you can see it clearly in Raynewood Retreat that the leader of the Dryads had an armour and now she just has a regular armourless dryad model.

Didn’t even know that model has been updated.
Their arms are too far apart.

Unfortunately I can’t embed media in my posts yet for side by side comparison to drive my point. I think they look really weird with their dead faces and prolongated arms sticking almost perpendicular to their body, like they’re T-posing.
PS I even went to Raynewood Retreat after your comment to check. If you meant Halannia - she used and still uses Nymph form, not the Dryad one. Same with the crying one (forgot her name) in Druid Class hall

What a take… Lol
The art team is what carries WoW the most.

Debatable. WoW aesthetic was great indeed, but recently I’m afraid I have to disagree.
A lot of half-assed job being done since BfA

Wow, they really got inspired by the prop hunt Dr Kleiner-model on that one.

Those are the new models… He’s talking about this ones, the above one is the old model and the one below is the new one.

Noticed it myself. They look really bad. IDK what’s going on. They don’t even look like they’re part of the game, but rather a model imported from another game and the face got wrecked in the import.

They look ok to me, although they would of been nice with abit more customization and animation, they look a little bit wooden.
(although the OPs post is kinda making it sound like they are upset the model isnt sexy enough for them any more, pretty sure Ive never looked at Bambi and thought…
‘I would…’)
LOL
I specifically said that it’s not the main issue for me, rather than poor design compared to overall WoW fantasy. It doesn’t feel like WoW anymore, not just because of Dryad alone of course, it’s just an example.

I’m assuming they have been updated to match the new centaur models in DF. Which is great because they would look very dated in comparison.
The only thing I really don’t like is the hair, it looked better when it was wilder looking and over their faces.
Also hard to make final judgement without seeing them IRL as it were!
The new ones look like something from a 7 year old mobile game.

I agree, it’s a downgrade. A bad one. Ugh my butt itches.
The new model looks like it was outsourced to Malaysia…
