Where Are All the MMO Players Going?

Hang in there Bigbazz… Its going to happen… Fairly soon I imagine… Guild wars just held a shareholder meeting where Guild wars 3 was told to be in the works as well.

Then you have the riot mmo ontop who just canceled their development because they didn’t want too make another wow clone…

New things are coming. And blizzard better stay awake.

‘’ >:c You just did that and reee

I don’t understand :dracthyr_hehe_animated:

Reeeeeee!!!

Nice finds! They’re better than my mere words (lazyness on my part!)!

But yeah, it does show the insane difference.
I think we have this tendency to gauge popularity within the MMORPG genre by the WoW ruler where 12 million is the epitome of success.
But it’s a measurement derived from 20 years ago.

Modern games today are played by hundreds of millions of people.

It’s a whole other ballgame.

Is it officially cancelled now? Seemed to be mostly rumours but they haven’t really got out of the conceptual phase from what I’d read.

It’s possible that this is one of those paused for the foreseeable future things, and then never starts up again ofc. I just wondered if I’d missed an official, it’s cancelled. Which is also perfectly possible.

I’m not investing myself into another MMO until Deep Dive VR becomes a reality :stuck_out_tongue:

Its not cancelled no… They just put it on standby for now. They felt like it was turning into ‘‘Another mmo you have all seen before’’ and wanted too bring the game into the new genre of mmo’s… Basically they want too re invent the mmo experience.

yeah so it’s a calculated number that reflects a more positive look than actual players, cause the explanation says it clearly…

If I play WoW in those three months, I count as one use, cause 3 entries / 3 months = 1.
But as soon as I even touch a single game by just logging in, their numbers get inflated.
Looks nice for the investors ofcourse.

With the time it takes to develop modern games, let alone MMO’s, I’m going to be a grandfather by the time that comes about. When I hit my 20s I didn’t think that when I hit my 40s the dominant MMO would still be World of Warcraft.

The sad thing is that they were making another WoW clone to begin with.

I remember when Titan was going to be another MMO from Blizz and we ended up with Overwatch instead. Then we were going to have PVE mode stuff and they launched OW2 only to cancel all of the PVE stuff.

The day that Deep Dive VR becomes reality is the day that Second Life becomes the most popular MMO.

And we all know why.

The riot mmo has been in the works for at least 3…4 years now? I am sure they aren’t gonna scrap it all and just start fresh over… but they want it too be a different mmo experience than we currently have had up until now.

There is allot of riot lore and story too that… that I cannot answer too… But believe me… I doubt riot wanted or thought… they could compete with wow by making the same game to begin with…

And I will forever wonder what that MMO would of looked like… But if anything it gives me huge hopes and ambitions what if ever… the next big MMO blizzard the king of mmo gaming will make if they ever do so.

If anyone knows how too reinvent the wheel here it would be them.

With China being back, will Blizzard resurrect their mobile Warcraft MMORPG project?

Because that project was definitely only being worked on because of China.

I’d be curious to see how a mobile Warcraft MMORPG would turn out.

Like Diablo immortal to Diablo IV perhaps.

Seems to be the most players in any mobile games, I presume part of it is how accessible gaming is on a phone, everyone has a phone, many kids have phones. My niece even has a tablet she plays games on. She’s not old enough for a phone yet but she’d love to have one.

Western gamers and mmo market don’t care about phone gaming… trying to apply what worked in china to western consumers is doomed too fail

If you think so, move on.
Don’t try and ruin it for the people who still love the formula.

Also: Survival games are horrendous. I hate them.
