Hi
I downloaded WoW Classic, and went on the server my characters used to be on (last 2021)
Now there is nothing there? What happened to my WoW classic characters? All the servers I had characters on show (2) or (3) as if there was chars on them. But when i go there, its just a character creation screen. I tried googling, but is there something I missed?
edit: even now when I posted, it shows a lvl25 Priest on Mograine, but there is nothing there!

If you didn’t choose to move to Classic Era the characters were on the progressive realms, so look in Wrath. Being on Classic Era was not the default option.
Some realms were closed down in Wrath so those characters are on Wrath Mograine.
And before you ask, there is no way to get them onto Classic Era.

Thank you for the clarification. That’s very odd that its a default… I really have no interest to go into WoTLK atm, and now I have to relevel? Geez

When you think about it, it’s not odd, it’s what happened back in the 2000s. The characters moved on to TBC then Wrath.
There was a way to choose to move to Classic Era, but the player had to choose it. You could play on both using a service that Blizzard created called cloning, which you had to pay for of course.
But for some reason known only to Blizzard after about 14 months they permanently deleted the characters on Era and now that Era is popular people such as yourself are coming back and asking where their characters are.
edit: “permanently deleted” are Blizzards words not mine

Only good thing - I have never seen such active servers in WoW Classic. Its full of players, in both sides. Kinda reminds me to 2019.
Blizzard open transfer of characters from WotLK to ERA!!!

Considering the differences I don’t think that’s something that will happen. Not only in gear but specs, character history and just about everything else.

you mean 2020-21? Well for us that hasnt been in the game, should not be punished for it for going off grid. It’s not a very customer friendly. But yea, I agree. There should be a way to check time played on a character on wotlk servers to transfer back if it hasnt been logged in WoTlk.

No, back in 2007 when TBC first came out and 2009 when Wrath first came out. You weren’t punished, all that happened was the natural progression. Imagine the complaints if everyone had been forced to stay in Era, it would have been great for some people such as yourself but most would have wanted to move on the TBC and Wrath.
I think there is quite a bit of difference even on unplayed characters and I also think that a check could be done but the time and money it would cost would not be recoupable for Blizzard.
The service would need coding for not only level but all the gear both on the character but in the bags and bank. Would they remove it or convert it to something else? I mean someone could be 60 but has done some TBC content.

Yeah it sucks. Lots of people lost their characters and forums are full of demands to restore them. Nobody knows how this will end up, but in the meantime… levelling is lot of fun and you get to know people.

Since this is a related topic I thought I would just mention for those who may not know, I just moved my SoM 60 Char from SoM server to Firemaw Classic Era for free. Took 5 minutes. Makes the character relevant again.

I don’t quite understand what you mean, you can’t move to SoM or stay on there.
Why? This is how Vanilla was, and Classic is just a replica of Vanilla.
Only we were promised forever Vanilla Museum to play in. Nobody ever said Burning Cruseade or Wrath back in 2019.

No one promised you that at the beginning of Classic. That first came when TBC was launched.
Nope, that what they say when talkint “Some like Vanilla” THEN they promised a museum, a nostalgia trip froever.

Would you mind quoting that for me as I only remember them saying something like that for Classic Era.
If your char is still locked on a SOM Server, you can free transfer him to firemaw for example. When the name exists you have to change it ofc.
Your character went to the trash can along with mine and everyone elses.
That´s why we would like this service restored.
Hopefully someone listens at blizzard.
