Where did the setting go wrong?

Would observe 10.2 nerveously

Truly one of the moments

My favorite was when Nathanos unironically did “GG ez” after being killed by Tyrande.

As Bellular wonderfully put it,

Current World of Warcraft is Fast and Furious if it was all family and zero cars

Another thing with Shadowlands is that the game has been godawful for the past five/six years. While I think the cycle of alliance horde having some form of war that then turns into a truce to account for a bigger threat is a staple it was worn out as hell by the time it was happening AGAIN in 8.3. Shadowlands was then more years of bad gameplay decisions with a mystery box ‘just wait and see wink wink’ storyline. Plus revealing that the eternal afterlife is more of the same except you don’t look like you any more.

It’s hard for me to say how much of my disengagement with WoW and DF is actually how the game is now versus the monumental amount of bleh I have from sitting through Slands.

I’m not gonna argue that point but I do find it hilarious that Bellular will consistently say things like this and yet will also continuously make video after video on the game despite having videos on his Bellular Gaming channel where he seemed to be playing games he actually enjoys, and was still getting decent viewership on.

Oh yeah absolutely. The game design was utter and complete crap from Legion to SL.

DF’s gameplay is excellent, probably on par with MoP or WoD, it’s just that the story is very meh.

Too little too late?

Man has got an income to make

As much as I love ragging on Legion, because it did introduce some of the most mind boggling systems. I think most of their stuff. AP’s, worse mission tables, etc, would’ve been find if we had a new set of systems for BfA, something that would try something new, instead of a worse iteration of the previous thing.

It’s the same with streamers like Venruki who slowly but surely have descended into madness over the game.

But that’s the thing, I assume he was still making money off the channel where he was playing FFXIV, the viewership numbers were there but then it looks like the dude just decided to abruptly stop uploading so he could… go back to making content bashing on WoW that pulls in a similar viewership?

Like the way that reads to me is that he genuinely enjoys making content where he can constantly be critical, which personally I find to be really lame.

WoW is a good topic for constant uploads because of datamining providing new content to cover practically every week or two, whereas with ff14 you will have nothing to talk about after a patch until the next one comes out.

I think this is more a negative on WoW’s part than it is his. If WoW just makes the story good he probably would cut back on half these videos.

Doomsday will come when Taliesin makes a negative wow video.

Inventing the computer was a mistake!

A mistake in a long long row of mistakes!

It all went wrong right from the start!

Things were so much better when we were all hunter-gatherers!

Make Earth great again, kill the humans!

Did we play the same BFA up to 8.1, that fumbled really hard the ‘unreliable biased narrator’ making everyone confused towards what the real story ended up being, since both faction quests essentially had propaganda quests?

I gave them A for effort, but calling it better than Dragonflight’s main story (before patches, like we’re doing with BFA) is… definitely a take one can have, I guess.

It’s only memorable because Gamers™ cranked their hogs way too hard publically over it and my only memory of the entire thing was that the poor intern’s hard work was reduced to cringe.

‘for the horde’ chants are cringe.

FWIW, I have far more faith in Dragonflight’s writers during launch to remake the entire Kalimdor and Eastern Kingdoms stories, if they ever did a Cataclysm 2.0. Dragonflight’s launch had cool worldbuilding and personal stories being told, whereas right now the leveling experience in Kalimdor/EK are like going through an arcade of extremely dated pop culture references.

That’s not to say all of Dragonflight was flawless (hello completely abrupt tonal shift in the blue dragon zone where obviously-evil-mage has you mass murder gnolls for no reason and the story then ends once you’re done with it with no follow-up), and whatever the devs sniffed during the next content patches - at which point I was already unsubbed, so thankfully I didn’t get to experience… but the leveling experience was for the most part really well done.

It’s something that felt very home-y to me when it comes to WoW. Don’t really remember any cosmic thingamabobs either, so everything felt grounded and in-worldly. Something you’d have expected from the quests when you’ve just made a new character. And after Shadowlands, it was something I very dearly missed and made me care about the places more than Shadowlands ever did.

Cosmic stakes have no stakes when you know you’re going to win after all. Ironic that the only way Jailer could ever be taken seriously would be if he had actually won, ushering in a new Cataclysm 2.0 as the entire reality is unmade or w/e he wanted, and how the world would react to it lol+lmao.

Funnily enough there was a legitimate fear from me that the Jailer could win, but that fear wasn’t really rooted in the in-game universe or percieving him as a threat. My concern at the time was that Blizzard’s investors would be like

“So, have you heard of this Final Fantasy thing, and how restarting the game was a major success for them? You have? Okay, can you do that but for your nearly twenty-year-old MMO? If it worked for them, it’ll work for you!”

And thus Zovaal is destined to win despite the fact we never actually see him do anything.

I will give credit to Blizzard though - within the first patch of Dragonflight we see Raszageth do more and accomplish more than the Jailer despite being the final boss of the first raid, and Fyrakk has also been a constant and visible threat since she died so, at least they improved there!

While I do think that a lot of Bellular ‘hot takes’ are rediculous (Aka saying that warcraft needs another sargeras and sword sweaty hair chest moments which I find uninsightful to say the least), the man finally seemed to get closer into honing in on the actual problems that the narrative has. Kinda why i want to keep this conversation going while there is more focus on it from the non rper community.
