So I came back to wow recently, last time I played was wotlk, and I noticed a lot of classes being classified as braindead. Now I know there will always be people whining about every class that beats them but is there a class that generally isn’t considered braindead?
From what I have seen so far every class got simplified (warrior stances are gone, shamans have way less totems than they used to, paladins lost their auras and seals (got holy power i guess but its just an alternate combo point system)…stating some on top of my head)
I initially had trouble even picking a class considering I tried them all on class trial and none of them stood out too much…
Long story short: Which class would you consider “not braindead” or “faceroll” that has more depth and requires skill to play effectively?
Well, i find affliction warlock quite fun. With current talent build, there is 10 spells to maintain + CD’s with trinket/items buffs. If you consider that to be not “brain-dead” or w/e.
For me, it’s not boring in PvE fights. However, i dont do PvP at all, so i wont comment for that.
Protection warrior is also quite interesting to play right now. Expecially in M+
My main is this lock and second main is prot warrior and i’m having quite blast playing WoW right now.
DH feel great for their mobility in open world imho, but the rotation is really bare bones.
It’s much better with lots of haste tho (unique AOE talent which deals more damage with haste rather than dealing them faster).
I also have a lot of fun in unranked PvP but i have no experience in ranked. Also the class is usualy taken in m+ or raids for it’s utility (lot of aoe dmg, aoe stuns, remove buff and grants +5% magic damage)
Currently leveling an Enh shaman and it felt much better than DH tbh, there’s a lot more interactions between your spells :
use your AOE spell and your strong single target spell will deal additional AOE damages
the more targets hit the more likely you’ll get a free proc of this strong single target spell and reset the CD of the next one
if you use flametong and / or frost weapon enchant you’ll deal more damage and / or slow with every attack, and it works with the AOE additional damage granted to your single target spell by the AOE one
There might be more than that but so far that’s what i use while leveling.
I dunno how well the spec will fare in late game but so far it’s fun to play. It rewards for packing 5 or 6 mobs at once and taking risks and i like this kind of gameplay.
Every class is simple now. Its just that some got more love from Blizzard than the rest.
For example we got mage who can blink while stunned, got tons of CC and damage. Has a lot of tools and defensives to deal with almost any situation.
Paladins which got FEW immunity spells which render them immortal and they can completely heal and reset the fight.
On top of that they got some of highest Burst/Damage/Healing in the game depending on spec.
Warriors and Death Knights which both got clean rotations arent considered Hybrids but ironically got more healing built in their damage spells and rotation that they heal more than the Hybrid classes in combat. Without having to cast anything mid-fight.
Essentially the more noobs played certain class and the more Blizzard favored it, the bigger and stronger the toolkit. As medicore players can utilize only 50% of their class properly. So while In BLizzard’s team hands and most of other players that class is OK. In CAPABLE hands and experienced PvP-ers, Mages and PAladins …lets add Rogues for fun… are Broken beyond belief.
And to PvP with some of the worse classes you would have to be skilled to even stand a chance as cough Enhancement Shaman Back in the day of MOP, not this new one.
So what we see is that Blizzard when it comes to Mages and Paladins, even DK’s. Even tho those classes are OP compared to others in good hands, they never got nerfed or removed some of their tools. Additional Divine shields from paladin, Double Blinks / Novas /Ice blocks from Mages etc… Whenever people cried for nerf, Blizzard standed their ground like “DEAL WITH IT ITS NOT OP”
BUT When and ENHANCEMENT SHAMAN gets buffed a bit, and low number of very good PvPers that plays it start utilizing its toolkit, they are on Par with Mages and Paladins and Rogues. BUT than community QQES for nerfs, and Shamans get nerfed into oblivion. Because people GOT USED to MAGES/PALAS being broken and OP. And Blizzard doesn’t got the balls to stand their ground when they make Enhancement Viable for example. Thus nerfing for no reason.
Aaanyway. If you wanna play Non-Braindamaged class Choose : Mage. With everything else people will flame you.
I’d say some healing spec. Mainly because you don’t follow a strict rotation nor press whatever is off cooldown most of the time. You need to follow mechanics like everyone else, keep an eye on your party/raid frames without tunneling and quickly judge what spell is the most suitable to use in the current situation.
Crying that pala is OP in a good hands is Rich.
Such bias from shameman who is amazing even when used by hmm extremely anawere player.
Just to enlighten you, proper ret pala isn’t just a big Divine storm spam, it’s also smart and quick use of utility and off heals. With a adequate ret pala in a group many affixes loose their power drastically.
How many palas and mages were at the MDI?
But the shammy was considered viable to compete with the ROGUE!
And the only DK was unholy aka decent skill ceiling from the team is required to pull big aoe.
Pure class hate Garbo post.
OP, for decent challenge play prot war, rogue and mb priest.
Each of them requires at least weak auras and proper abilities up time management imho.
Thats one of the great examples where skill of the player is everything, at least in m+ environment there is a world of difference between skilled disc and new guy.
I am really amazed when I see disc in group finder who can do the same m+ content as rdru.
I am main feral 414 ilvl, and i can assure you it’s not a braindead spec. Most people believe it’s a dead spec, because NO ONE REALLY KNOWS HOW TO PLAY IT + THEY LISTEN TO FACKIN STREAMERS AND METAS
Everything is braindead nowdays. WoW was destroyed after MoP and it hasnt recovered from it. And never will because its nowdays been designed for idiots. They can put out 5 more expansions with really cool stories and art but it does not matter, because they still design classes for braindead people. Last expansion will be able to be played with your phone I guarantee.
And I play Arcane, which many say has got only 3 spells. You have a few more than those (not that many, sure), but what I really find interesting about arcane is that there almost isn’t any rng, you know from the beginning how much damage you are capable of doing (plus a very little bonus from random missiles procs). You have to plan and adapt to the environment you have, mixing strategies. And, in pvp, well, just look at some Xaryu’s videos and you’ll see how viable it is!
In PvP no class is brain dead.
In pve I wouldn’t say braindead - it requires less effort. For example aoe DPS from DH is easy to do.
Instead of choosing master brain class according to other people - I suggest try diff spec and choose which you enjoy most regardless of difficulty lvl.
Bro get your crap together, I am talking purely about PvP. You know, that thing you never do and you are terrible for. I don’t give 2 cents about a PvE content. Who cares if someone else pulls 20% more dps than me in PvE. I don’t certainly. For what I care, Holy Priest can do 50m damage-per-Second in PvE and I wouldn’t care. Nor would ANY other Shaman care.
But of course PvE scrub like you who never even played Enh in arenas and PvP can’t know a thing about it… And yes Paladins are beyond broken in PvP.
In WoW? None. Everything is a joke to play and has been for a while. Not that it ever was incredibly complex to start with.
Go FF14 if you want complex classes, but little endgame content to play around with them. Though even WoW’s endgame leaves a lot wanting right now, considering how incredibly outgearable it is lately.
