Looking at starting a character on classic, the idea that the servers are static so to speak (all content released) has its appeal.
So my thoughts are
Hunter
*Clear open world winner
*Pet for company and mini tank
*Decent damage
*Pet requires good management
*Would go LW for gear
Paladin
*Great in group content as healer
*Ret isn’t as powerful as other DPS
*Movement speed buff and free mount
*Prot aoe build at 60
*Would go BS (armour)
Rogue
*Powerful DPS
*Nice class fantasy with pick pocket/poisons
*Probably LW or maybe Alch
Mage
*Glass canon
*Portals for helpful travel (useful in classic)
*Good cc and aoe options
*Tailoring + Enchanting
Warlock
*Get a minion for solo play
*Strong damage
*Free mount
*A lot of dots and curses
*Underwater breathing and soulstone
*Tailoring + Enchanting
My plan would be to clear all quests and max reps etc and aim to clear the raids.
Human racial is a nice bonus for the rep grinding but then rules out the hunter.
Really not sure what to go for, I’m leaning on hunter due to the open world solo advantage but then will that human racial make up for it when it comes to getting those reps done?
Who knows which class is in most demand once you hit 60? And wWhat fun is there to level a class up fast if you don’t like to play it? And
No, just roll the class you like to play.
Just be aware that if you pick a Pala you have also picked a healer job
And no, you won’t be tanking as a Paladin in raids. Dungeons? Fine. Raid? No. Nono.
I would, and maybe this is the answer but i was planning on being alliance, mostly due to the human rep bonus.
Oh im aware, i played a paladin when classic was current (2019) i meant you could put together a character with a reasonable amount of aoe/thorns damage. I got stockades down to 3 pulls but cant remember if i tried this setup for things like grinding mobs for rep (timbemaw etc)
Yeah, so long as he doesn’t plan on ranking in PVP because then he would have to compete against the multiple account pay2win users that dominate the honor standings at which point it doesn’t matter what class he chooses.
That’s a question I have always wanted answer myself.
Why didn’t you mention warrior? A bit slow leveling but able to use all types of weapons. Aren’t the most famous weapons in the game two-handed swords and axes that can only be used by warriors and paladins? And warrior is the most decent tank in Classic.
Hunter is a great class - easy leveling, pet collecting but not the best DPS in raids. I have chosen hunter for Retail where rankings are changing every season and is pointless looking for top spec. But Classic is not going to change so…
After playing Paladin I decided to for Rogue - decent DPS, fun abilities, decent DPS.
You didn’t mention druid - a bit difficult to learn/play, not the best DPS, mana never enough so I abandoned it.
Mage - I was really impressed by the amount of damage the mage does but can only wear cloth armor so quite limited in choice of fancy outfits. No transmogrification in Classic so what you equip is what people see.
well thats a big plate you want to gobble. you keep on about the hunter for solo etc but clearing raids is a different animal. AFAIK you can choose pretty much whatever you like, its not like ERA raids fill up in seconds.
But i would say warriors and mages are over - represented and hard to gear up. paladins are always a joy as long as you like healing (and dont solo) as are warlocks. good combi of raid util and solo would be warlock
i never worry about stuff like extra rep on humans etc. its a char you will look at for dozens of hours straight, it cant be a human male for me
I played all classes and before I returned to WoW I decided to only build one character
my choice fell on the warlock and for many reasons
You have no downtime while questing / farming
there have always been few locks and every raid prefers to have three
in pvp like pve absolutely vaible
and with the exception of the raid (shadowbolt spam) not as boring as mage
you don’t need any resources for your game either, you pull the splinters while playing anyway
1on1 completely op, even with moderate gear
Plays solo even more relaxed than a hunter and has less competition than any other class in terms of T sets
for me warlock, even after 3 years vanilla, is still the best decision
