Which Classic Era server should I choose ? (pvp and factions balanced)

Hey, title says it all:

I’d like to find which one is the current best Classic Era server, pvp oriented, with an acceptable balance between factions (no 75% Alliance vs rest in Horde).

No anniversary since I have no intention to play TBC whatsoever.

Also if they are classic era players here, what are your insights? Are the servers still populated, can we find people to run dungeons/raids easily, do battlegrounds (WSG, AV, etc) pop often and is world pvp active ?

Nothing about classic is pvp oriented since layering & bgs are basically dead with the new pvp system. If you want pvp you will have to play retail or mop, or better yet something like a FPS game

Classic era player on the Firemaw (PvP) cluster here. The server is very much alive with guilds and pugs raiding. There is of course the GDKP scene, which I don’t have anything against, but there’s lots of SR raids as well. There’s also little botting and gold selling at the moment, which I enjoy.

The faction balance is okay, there are slightly more Alliance players, but the Horde also holds strong. I can recommend the server for either faction, and you will see other players leveling up (and doing dungeons) with you regardless of which faction you choose.

For PvP there’s basically AV, and people are grinding it hard now that honor doesn’t decay. For other battlegrounds you mainly have premades and long queues. World PvP happens from time to time, but there’s no big wars between Southshore and Tarren Mill for instance.

I intend to stay on Firemaw for the long run, having a great time over here. Welcome

You don’t have any choice really. All pvp servers are tied to one cluster so technically being one big megaserver. Firemaw cluster had around 60-40 alliance to horde ratio. Besides firemaw is only one populated now. There is pve pyrewood cluster but it is dead a bit for alliance and dead silent for horde.

Besides many people will move out to play tbc again so I recommend going firemaw

People in my guild successfully farmed AB this weekend. There also is Guild in firemaw horde looking new people for pvp only

Sadly it doesn’t seem particulary appealing to me after all.

If being successful at joining AB is seen as some kind of achievement then I guess it says a lot on the pvp state from Classic Era servers.

Won’t lie, I don’t really want to wait ages to join battlegrounds, knowing a loss, a game sabotage or facing a premade would be even more frustrating after waiting that long. I’m sure you know what I mean by that.

Also if world pvp is also a rare thing, not especially talking about organised raids versus raids, but simply casual ambushes anywhere in the world, then I’ll probably pass on that as well.

But this confirms what I thought years ago, when Blizzard decided to create too many Wow iterations to split the population and rush phases to please a certain type of players.

When I see such amount of servers with “Low” population in the launcher I can’t stop thinking something is definitely wrong.

I guess I’ll wait for a new iteration, like a hypothetical Classic Plus, hopefully slow paced this time, but interesting enough to hook all type of players, like the Wow version that would end them all, if this ever happens. Or not.

Thanks for your insights anyway !

That sadly is a lie^^
I was looking for queue times on saturday evening on AV weekend a few weeks ago and it was horrible. And there was only one BG open^^

That’s how it is on era.

But if u wanna do pve and world pvp (with consumes) then firemaw is your server to go.

I’d still recommend u to play anniversary tho. For sure there will be an option again, when TBC comes, to transfer your chars to the vanilla era servers. And if u like world pvp while leveling u won’t be disappointed on anniversary

I’m leveling on ERA Firemaw, and I have reached level 53. Finding dungeons and people for group quests is hard. I can solo most group quests though, once I reach a certain level.

No idea about endgame sadly, but the trade/lfg channel does advertise for endgame raids regularly.

Why don’t I play anniversary? Well, I did, but I quit. I got rank 14 there. I’m not interested in TBC that much, my character is still there if I want to check it out, so I always have that option as well.

There are friendly people who will help you though.

Era will be here for a long time, so I find it a good investment of my time.

Era is alive but it is not “very much alive” as mentioned previously. This is obviously because of Anniversary still being in Vanilla

Expect Era to get busier once we’re a bit into TBC on Anniversary.

You mentioned world pvp - you won’t find much of this on Era because most people are already leveled and those leveling alts get boosted. On Anniversary, World PvP is flourishing. You can happily venture out to the world and find people to gank or get ganked by. Spineshatter realm forces faction balance as well, so it’s basically even.

BGs on Era are dead, again cos of Anni. Only AV is up on Anni apart from WSG and AB bonus weekends. This is because AV awards the most honor and people are rushing to r14 because this is a rushed version of vanilla. Blizzard could adjust the honor gain from WSG and AB to make more people play them, but they wont.

TL:DR you will find most of what you want on the Anniversary realms, but you don’t want to go to tbc so that’s rip - unless you can transfer to Era on TBC launch which you most likely will be able to. Or just wait for TBC then go to Era.

Or he/she can also just start leveling on ERA now so they have a char ready for when the influx of players comes to ERA after TBC launch. I don’t trust blizz to make transfers even if it’s very likely.

Yeah I noticed that AB and WSG was running last week and pretty decent queue times, similar to the retail queue times throughout Vanilla-Cata before battlegroups where removed in Mists.

IMO Era have more PvP then Anniversary. Both BG and open world.

But as a new character its kinda frustrating sicne most people queueing AB and WSG are in Naxx and AQ gear with high spell pen and raw damage.
