I remember way back in Vanilla when the staircase in ZF was brutal, endless mobs spawned for ages and drained your group down to nothing - people wiped all the time and arguments broke out constantly. Triggering the event was genuinely scary.
Then one day back in 2006, goodness knows why, a patch was released which made the whole thing stupidly easy (the patch notes referenced this also). I believe they wanted people to level to 60 faster to sell more of the expansion?
Are we playing on the patch with the ZF nerf (among others), or the real experience? Genuinely asking as I can’t remember which it was: either 1.12 or just before TBC if memory serves.
I think we need to stop suggesting people remembered things differently. The difference between Wow Classic and an earlier Vanilla patch is huge in terms of difficulty.
I can’t remember that stair fight being particularly difficult. But then again, I can’t remember much about the first time I did it either on account of being rather drunk. None of the party died though. That would have been sometime during 1.9.
