Any classic server/realm is empty. What is the point in playing a multiplayer game if there isn’t sufficient online players.
I’d really like to play, not in a ghost town.

Which ones - ecxept for the RP realms - show below 50 players? I’m genuinely curious, as I never found other than those.
Oh, looking for the Clusters, I found an answer:
Classic Era EU English servers are combined into 5 clusters. Here ranked from most to least populated:
1 - PvP servers cluster: Ashbringer, Bloodfang, Dragonfang, Earthshaker, Gandling, Golemagg, Mograine, Noggenfogger, Skullflame, and Firemaw - inhabited
2 - all 3 PvE servers - inhabited
3 - PvP cluster: with Dreadmist, Flamelash, Judgement, Razorgore, Shazzrah, Stonespine, Ten Storms, and Gehennas - quite empty
4 - RP-PvE Hydraxian Waterlords - quite empty
5 - RP-PvP Zandalari Tribe - Dead.
So my guess is that you accidentally tried the RP realms and all the realms in the PvP-2 cluster.
EDIT.
I went and looked for myself. Even now, 9.30 in the morning. Of the EU English realms only the RP realms and the PvP-2 cluster come up with /who below 50.
Even he HC servers go over 50 only not Stitches Hordeside.
Classic yes, anniversary is the way to play
