my last computer of 12+ years was fine in bgs, iv recently bult a new pc with a gtx1080 ti and intell i78700k 3.7ghz, 32gb ram, 1tb NVME drive etc, and im getting insane fps, it drops down to 1 fps in big bgs, whats going on here?
Have you tried disabling addons or turning down graphic settings for battlegrounds?
Ashran is laggy bg if you ask me.
Would addons cause that to happen? i didnt know that was a thing?
AS for graphics, they are set on âgraphics quality 7â of the slider, which im pretty sure my old pc was (btw i used to have a 750ti on my old pc) but no i havnt lowered them only because i thought surely i shouldnât be getting problems with this hardware?
Tried to link a image of settings iv got set but apparently you cant link addressesâŚ

Iâm sorry, I bring my awesomess into the bgâs with me.
Thatâs not lag, thatâs just fps drops or stuttering.
Lag is when you have latency problems.
Probably because youâve got 80 ppl all using their cds and azerite neck abilities.
Pretty much happens to everyone, lowering your settings probably wouldnât help much because WoW is that kind of game where settings donât make that big of a difference on your fps.
Could also be a hardware problem, had the exact problem like you where Iâd get 1 fps for like 20 seconds and the game would stop, every time that happened I checked the task manager and âWindows Interruptâ always had 99% CPU usage during that time.
I had that problem in epic battlegrounds until I started turning off damage meter. Made it much more bearable.
I canât even get 144 fps in major cities with these specs.
i9-9900k,
2080ti
16Gb @3200
1TB SSD
And I keep my graphics at 5/10
The game is just too old to be optimized. Weird thing is I get 800 fps in Classic and I donât think the game looks bad at all, I canât get those numbers in Retail even if I turn my graphics to the lowest. (1/10)
And in retail the worst graphics settings make the game unplayable.
The Engine WoW runs on and how optimised it is, is still quiet poor. Not terrible but it could be better mind.
So youâll probably find either option A. Your gear is running at high % but the performance isnât worthy, or B. The % is low.
You can try and increase the resolution to make it more GPU bound by all means.
I found turning shadows to medium or low helps greatly, projected textures I can never even see a difference? Particle Quality is the only one I have high or maxed as it
A makes the spells look damn gorgeous and
B you can often see AoEs etc in dungeons/raids better.
View distance you can fine tune unless youâre adamant you actually need it ridiculously far, also ground detail etc. Donât just use presets fiddle with the settings as 99% of the time you wonât even notice the stuff whilst playing the game.
Ashran is especially ruthless
Worth checking your temps. Download a tool the letâs you see your CPU, mobo and gpu temps as your system may be overheating and throttling.
Yy to add-ons being a possible cause.
And also yy to setting lower quality for raid / BGs. One of the World First Method EU raiders said he sets graphics to 1 for raids!
ofc they do. just activate LUA error messages. They conflict with the game constantly, like literally all the time
You probably already have turned the streaming settings off in your battle.net setting. If you havenât, I believe it helps with stopping stickiness and some types of lag.
Windows updates, operating in the background put my CPU like that on my laptop, but not my PCâŚ
So how did you fix this problem? any suggestions?
Well I havenât really fixed it per se, it still happens sometimes but a lot less.
Basically I avoid putting my PC under too much stress, I also keep my graphics on the lower side.
Could be that all that your PC needs is a good cleaning, thereâs tons of variables.
Iâd advise that if it keeps happening that you search the web for a solution since it can tell you a lot more than I could.
So is it possible to have different graphic settings for different things? because i believe i do have higher settings for leveling and it would be a pain to have to alter these everytime i do instanced content if you get what i mean?
Yes, go into:
System > Graphics
Youâll see a check-box for âEnable Raid and Battleground Settingsâ. Thereâs a âRaid and battlegroundâ tab where you can set different display settings. I have 7 for Base Settings and 3 for Raid and BG.
WoW! i did not know that! thanks allot iâm sure that will help!
With a 1080 in epic bg, my fps only drops when majority of a 40 v 40 are in same spot doing their stuff. I guess I could reduce my gfx a bit more for bgs, but I donât wanna. Trade off.
In open world, I can have everything on max without affecting fps too much, except view distance - that seems to make big difference. Oh ye, anti-aliasing seems intensive.
Wrong gfx setting can cause fps issues too. Like I had vsync or something on wrong setting and was getting freezes and stuttering, correct setting, smooth.
And ye, addons can cause fps drops. Good to try disabling them as a test and see what happens. If one causes issue, report to author.
addons seems to do it, dmg meter/skada/details, dbm does it, even custom ui frames seems to do so, becuse some addons are trying to check everyone who is targeting you or every dmg that you take at once, though I have no clue why this hits the fps more than anything else.
