Why are no one playing on RP servers any more?!

Seems sad, imo. Seems like everyone’s focused on the end game in stead of the journey there.

Cause they opened free transfers and the mega server for everyone PvP is Living Flame

Living Flame - isnt that SOD?

I think he asks why people don’t play Era RP servers.

I think the reasoning there is pretty much exactly the same
People moved off Zanadalr Tribe during the first wave of free migrations, and whatever the PvE-RP realm name was, was closed to the sound of much complaining in the second wave, only to be reopened after everyone left as a cruel joke.

Yes, the RP servers were maltreated in Classic / Era.
I speak for the RP-PvE server, Hydraxian Waterlords (My old server, and the one where my old main still is, although unplayed):

In 2019 HW was simply used as owerflow for the too few normal PvE servers. No RP rules were ever upheld, so the RP crew had a tough time of it.

In January (or February) 2022 the free transfer off the RP realms were opened. Why, I think nobody really understood. Panic made Guilds and players leave head over heels.

In July 2022 the Consolidation mess closed all other RP severs than HW. But as it too had been marked for closing many had left.
The free transfer FROM HW stayed up, while free transfer TO HW was only opened way later and only from select realms … and not always those the RPers hade been allowed to FCT to.

The HC-addon people choose HW to play on, stomping and deriding the few RPers still hanging out.

When SoM ended many of us had counted on taking our Soul of Iron-buffed characters back to HW, but it was not possible to go from SoM to other than Pyrewood Village
(and the buff drops off after a time on a normal server).

I forgot the paid cloning.

So yes, HW is not populated these days (15-25 players all in all Ally side is standard), and I wholly and fully blame Blizzard for this.

RPers are probably the players least likely to fit into the desired/target metagame.

Think of RMT, botting, fast phase’s release, etc. RPers couldn’t dislike all this more.

Berny is a RPer.

Berny would kill a lowbie, then say E A S Y with hermes, then walk away with the rp walk.

Also there’s no Anniversary RP servers :frowning:

You can use slow walk and talk in thesaurus language on regular servers too.

I don’t play on one because playing on a server with literally around 20 people in the entire world is largely a waste of time. It means a lifeless, empty world, no economy, no friends, no Auction House, and definitely no RP.

By offering free transfers from RP servers to higher populated non-RP servers, Blizzard effectively killed RP servers stone dead.

Shame we didn’t get the one as Fresh Anniversary. With a bit more splitted population maybe we wouldn’t have that much issues with layering and overcrowded servers.

never understood the RP server… cant u RP on any server? like its your choice?
i dont get it

While you are technically correct, there is still a difference.

Technically you can do all that.
But an RP-Realm has special rules. They are however also not the sole reason why RP-Realms are “needed” for Roleplayers.

The existence of an RP-Realm has the effect of getting Roleplayers onto the same server, without extra effort being needed to decide what server to play on to find fellow Roleplayers. Without that, Roleplayers will be split amongst most servers, making for very small and often too small RP-Communities.

There is also the problem with “expectation”. This is also how RP-Servers essentially die and turn into normal PvE or PvP Realms.

On an RP realm I can start talking in character to another character and reasonably expect them to reply in character.

(Short explanation. OOC, Out of Character = Talking as the player behind the computer, not the character. IC, In Character = The character is talking, not the player.)

On a normal realm there is no reason to expect the other to answer in character so I will probably not even try. The result is that nobody really does roleplay, because they don’t expect the other to do the same.

And even if one would just try anyway and talk in character to others, chances of getting ridiculed instead are high enough that the attempt seems unreasonable.

You can also PvP on a PvE server, in theory.

It is rather about concentrating the RP player pool.

It’s also about not meeting what an old RPer once decribed as “People called things like Toiletbrush, jumping all the time”.

These time are gone. On no server I have ever read so many idiotic names like on the SoD RP PvP server Crusader Strike.

Sad - I do not play PvP (or SoD) so I have not seen this. It was better on the RP-PvE server. I suspect CS was used by streamers? and as an overflow by “normal” PvPers not findling the queues to their liking

That brings back memories of 2006. Trying to hold in-character guild meetings or events and a bunch of lolatrons with names like noobganxer and sexxorznelf bunny hopping around over our heads, firing off continuous barrages of AOEs and spamming chat with “LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL RPNERDS GET A LYFE LOLOLOLOILO9LOJ!!1111!”

Those were the days.

Well, at least in old days the naming rules were enforced by Blizzard. Now, it seems to me, they give a shi_t…

The legend has it that there was a guild named “Lasers Pew Pew” on the original Argent Dawn RP realm in Vanilla that got force renamed by a human GM to “Swords Clang Clang”

Can’t verify it tho since I was on The Venture Co. RP-PvP.
